The Council of Churches of Zambia says it is disappointing that President Michael Sata is now in favour of the Public Order Act, a piece of legislation that he strongly opposed whilst in opposition.

CCZ General Secretary Reverend Susanne Matale told Reporters in Lusaka that it is disappointing that President Sata could be in favour of an oppressive piece of legislation such as the Public Order Act.

“As the Church, we find it hard to believe that President Sata whom he fought hard together against this oppressive law could turn around and say this is a nice piece of law,” Reverend Matale remarked.

She said President Sata should realize that consistency in politics is key adding that u-turning on such critical matters is highly disappointing.

Reverend Matale feared that President Sata’s defence of the Public Order Act might be representative of his other views on many other controversial issues.

“We fear that he may have also developed new views on other important issues such as the constitution, we fear that we may never get the right constitution going by the U-turns we have noticed on many key issues.”

Reverend Matale observed that politicians should be consistent and not shift positions when it suits them.

“Yesterday, you didn’t like this law and we don’t expect you to like it even today, that’s the consistency the Church is asking from our politicians,” She said.

  1. this is the change you wanted . so you shouldn’t cry at all , politicians are politicians and they will remain politicians and will continue using you for their own good…

  2. What do you expect from this s.nake and liar? If he can lie on the 90-day theory, what more these other issues? I am shocked that Rev. Matale is even surprised, you dont know Sata imwe? He revels in lies. Thats why he is king cobra, the snake.

  3. I think the president is doing a wonderful job, would like to see him suspend anyone who has brought the name of the party and Government in disrepute ie Mr Kabimba, and Mr Mwaamba (Who i think is ill because of his weight)
Any man who has breast like or has a pot belly is borderline ill, because the risks outweigh the benefits, no woman likes a fat man, certainly anything in excess of kg is a no no

    Thanks

  4. Give Sata a break! Sata has neither moral nor emotional intelligence. The man is an empty and spiteful empty vessel. You will develop a cardiac ailment if you are expecting any good to come from this man. Just hold tight and wait for the nightmare to end……that’s my only advice to you!

  5. Rev. Matale Bravo; You are a Woman of Valor. You voice has to be more active now than ever on Most pertinent issues of development and democratization. Someone once said Politics is a fine art of Winning Votes from the Poor and Campaign Funds from the Rich while simultaneously Promising to protect the interest of both from each other.

  6. As one who appears to be a well read cleric, I thought Rev Matale was well acquainted with Jeremiah 13:23 which says: “Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.” She & other clergymen in CCZ should just brace themselves for more political melodramatics as the PF has never been consistent on any issue. Even Fred Mmembe’s desperate attempts to embellish or downplay the King Cobra’s inconsistencies will only come to naught.

  7. Sata and his PF have reneged on so many issues before this and it should hardly surprise anyone. Mr Sata’s history is well documented and Mr M’membe’s attempts to launder his dubious character are in vain. The man is a liar and he will only say things that he wants the gulluble paople to hear. Somehow, he always gets away with. Does anyone remember the strong advocacy for Windfall tax, chasing away Chinese, Constitution within 90 days, less foreign travel etc? Malabishi yeka yeka

  8. What is it that made this woman u-turn on her support for pf? That was her democratic right then to, and just as it is now not to. But, something is just not adding up. I am really curious. Whatever it is, it is like the the light that struck Saul on the road to Damascus and enabled him to realise that he had been persecuting the wrong people.

  9. Zambians lets unite and fight this inconsistency government. They made a lot of promises but they have failed to fulfil any. Michael capitalised on many zambians’ inability to analyse issues critically and clinically. the man is taking us for a ride. Please we need to do something before its late otherwise am ashamed of Zambian intellectuals who in forefront supporting this unpatriotic party.

  10. Sata has failed to address the Nation through a Press Conference because he is scared to face questions. Sata is NOT sound mentally. maybe a commision of Inquiry of Doctors need to be assembled to examine him.

Abakalamba ba Sata niba flip flop chabe, cheated his way to Plot one. he has failed to address a single rally up to date and sick!!!

  11. Rep what you sore. Never to put your trust in man because no salvation belongs to him. Your prolific expectations are of no significant outcome because they symboliz nothing. Belive it or not, it has been observed. It was milk but contemporary, it has become vicious sour. It is vital for citizens to have a close examination of such developments.

  12. GBM ati money meant for farmers has ended up in wrong pockets that why FRA is failing to pay farmers.what does this mean corruption is on the rise under PF

  13. why are you people wasting time criticising Michael Sata – an old sick rug with dirty water for brains… Besides, you voted for him. You share his faults and both of you his voters and himself are equal *****s.

  14. Rememer men go flat out to buy a condom use it and then through it anywhere they feel fit after satisfying their lust…and even insult the lady ati tawalowa nokulowa. Same with politicians, they will use the people to get into power and forget about them once they are comfortable…they will even say these people are a problem, they are un realistic and demanding too much. Same theory ya condom.

  15. The public order act is necessary in the immature politics of this country. If this piece of legislation was removed today, you would see the amount of lumpenising that our beloved opposition would engage in. They would wake up and organised 200 drunk and employed youths for a peaceful demonstration which would degenerate into civil disobedience and some of them would end up in jail. Until we achieve political maturity and build capacity in institutions of governance to handle cheap lies and fictitious scandals, we need the public order act in place. Ofcourse the use of this legislation by the ZP has to be limited and not abused to stop people from oprganising a rally for no apparent reason. Whenever ZP use the POA, they should be compelled to give valid reasons. NOT JUST INCONSISTENCY!!!

  16. In the last days , men will be lovers of money ,the church will loose its call purpose and swayed into politics, watch out, stand up and point pipo to Jesus, Heaven and Earth will pass away but my word, will stand still, dont hide in Church, decrare your position.

  17. # 18 Mwendajangula, your allegory of a condom and the masses is weird and demeaning! Believe it or not, the POA is only problematic in political issues. If a church, even CCZ needs to match to raise awareness, lets’ say on defilement of the girl child, no POA effect will be felt. The police may just ask them to postpone the match or change the route if there is another big function they will be policing or if the route is being used by another group or a dignitary.
Due to immature political climate, this piece of legislation is necessary as it can make the country ungovernable! Even MCS when in opposition at one time tried to make the country ungovernable for the MMD, but failed due to the POA. Finally due to the POA, we can change governments peacefully and the whole world comends us!

  18. I agree with No. 19. Our democracy and its many players are so immature that removing the POA will bring more chaos than good to our country. I disagree with the Reverend. I believe that A reasonable person should be flexible and change his/her position in the face of overwhelming evidence that our original position was wrong. Even a bulldozer has a reverse gear.

    • Be that as it may, the current form of this law is open to abuse based on the whims of those in power. If we are too maintain this law (and that’s a big IF) we need to change it and make it impermiable to abuse. I can give examples…

  19. The problem affecting the full enjoyment of the freedom of assembly and association could only be resolved by a comprehensive review of archaic legislation which is public order act

  20. Sata and PF disciples have mastered the art of ambiguity, this is a school of thought in which the architect of a given area of interest deliberately mislead the audiences (Zambians) by seemingly oversimplifying the prevailing circumstances yet on the other hand the uncertainity of the very circumstances are amplified. This approach creates confusions and it bleeds accusations among the oppositions parties. It follows that the PF emerges as a legitimate mediator and peace maker yet it is the architect of the ensuing mayhem. The counter measures which should emanate from the opposition will be to hold underground activities in private homes. Viva HH,UNPD

  21. It’s pity that most of the respected Churches in Zambia supported the monister, kingn of deceit, Satan himself. The Bible says you reap what you sow.So today we are reaping darkness, the forces of darkness are on the thrown. What do you expect from a constable who came to power by untold lies and deceit.

  22. Different regimes in South Africa prior to 1994 used a similar piece of legislation called ‘Law and order’. Interestingly, both the British and the Afrikaaners used the same tactics in criminalising, victimising and repressing the oppressed as it were then. The Afrikaaners took over from the British in 1948 and turned it as an Afrikaaner on-slaught on the alread traumatised Africans. In the case of Zambians, the rulers are traumatising the ruled through this ‘intrument of legislation’ which has the hallmark of racists laws.Notice that even black people can practise racism to other black people for the sake of benefiting economically yet the masses are left to salvage remains at a damp site. Viva HH, UNPD

  23. Its a shame for a Head Of State to perpetually LIE like Sata does without remorse or reason. Sata is surely a snake like all snakes they never move in a straight line. At one moment its head is on the left the next on the right just like Mr Sata his been winding on all the promises he made in Opposition. In future i would have loved for leaders to be held accountable for the promises they make while campaigning. how i wish they could be brought to answer for not fulfilling there promises to the point of been impeached. at his age he should desist from lying as it is a sin against GOD him being a christian.

  24. its embarrassing for one to be changing goal posts all the time. be a man of character have a backbone sir. have the courage to stand by your words. don’t be like balloon which wonders about in the sky been taken where ever the wind is going. sit down relax you are now president you can’t afford to think with your mouth, its time to use your brain. i wouldn’t be surprised if HOMOSEXUALITY was allowed in Zambia considering that some people there manhoods don’t work.

  25. Mr. Sata, his Ministers , the police and the PF should not be the final authority on questions of public assembly or protests since they are competitors and our police have never demonstrated independence. Matters of denial or grant of permit to assemble should always be dealt with by judges and magistrates of court as is the case in many countries.

  26. The opposition should convey coded messages to the international community through underground activities that the regime is repressing the masses on the grounds that demostrations, public and private gatherings or mere meetings as well as being in possession of documents pertaining to politics, are prohibited for the opposition. This is exactly what made the late supposedly ‘strongman’ Gadaffi very unpopular among the international community. If several liberation movements were highly successful within the boarders of South Africa in bringing down the entire apartheid regime which was millitarily several times stronger than Zambia, then Zambians can equally make the PF regime behave in a civilised manner. Zambians should not wait for miracles from outside but they can stand up

  27. Whatever the PF regime is planning or has alread assembled as a preferred dosage for what it considers as an outbreak of a plague in its backyard, those measures will be met with counter measures. Zambians should unite as one against a common enemy of development, peace and national unity. Viva HH, UNPD. Resileace, peace, pride, strong hope, education and development to all Zambians.

  28. The point Suzanne you are now raising is the same one some of us have laboured on – We warned you BEFORE and AFTER the elections. Sata is and has been Double-tongued and Unreliable who only does what suits him at any given point in time and is not capable of changing.

I have said it several times on this blog before – ALL These CHARACTERISTICS have always been glaringly evident. What still beats me is HOW Educated, Intelligent and Sober-minded people (like Matale and Co) could have been so foolish as to be duped into supporting MCS and his bunch.

This is shows a sense of poor or lack of judgment of character – a very serious defect for a clergy person.

  29. Did we not warn you that you were putting a monkey in statehouse….  you insulted us saying he was a man of action…
You have your man you must enjoy him

  30. if Chanda was dead he could be spinning in his grave, now that he is still alive peeeeeeeewwwww! He feels i dont know about his facts!@ #27 indeed Mr Sata is a man of action and’this is the only type of action you can expect from him.
