Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) President, Edith Nawakwi has alleged that UPND President Hakainde Hichilema does not want a woman to be a president because he thinks that women should be in the Kitchen.
Ms Nawakwi said this during a testimony in a case where former UPND national youth chairperson, Joe Kalusa has been found with a case to answer over a charge of conduct likely to cause breach of peace, when on September 14, this year in Ndola, allegedly issued the threat through the Post Newspaper of September 17 to the effect that he would organise cadres to “gang rape” the opposition leader.
Ms Nawakwi told Ndola acting Chief Resident Magistrate, Collins Lundah, that she had not been able to perform her duties effectively as a politician because of the same statement.
Ms Nawakwi told the court that she was unable to freely perform her duties as party president especially that violence was on the increase in the country.

She testified that it was not the first time that Kalusa had threatened her and alleged that UPND was a violent party that would inflict actual bodily harm on any person.
“I’ve limited myself from movements because I have been living in fear. I do not need this insecurity anymore because Zambia is a peaceful country. Kalusa is under UPND president Hakainde Hichilema who does not want a woman to be president because he thinks women should be in the kitchen. This is serious. Rape is war not pleasure,” she told the court.
Another witness, Abigil Chaponda, a Post Newspaper reporter who authored the story in question, told the court that Kalusa had said he would organise cadres to gang rape Ms Nawakwi.
Ms Chaponda said this was when he asked Kalusa for a comment on statements by Ms Nawakwi about Mr Hichilema.
“Mr Kalusa called and asked me to withdraw the story but I had already sent it to the editors in Lusaka. The story was finally published and attracted a lot of interest,” she said.
Kalusa, in his defence, said Ms Chaponda misquoted him in the story published under the headline ‘Kalusa vows to organise UPND cadre rapist to gang rape Nawakwi.’
Kalusa said he resigned from UPND last year and that he was non partisan.
He said he did not recall saying he would organise opposition youths to gang rape Ms Nawakwi in his comment.
Mr Lundah adjourned to December 28, this year for judgment and Kalusa is on bail.
No case here. Probation the most or suspended sentence !

As far as I know, all political parties in Zambia that have cadres are violent. FDD is not viloent as it has no so called “foot soldiers” or no members at grassroot level.

No case. Chaponda was hallucinating – Joe Kalusa organising the youths of a party he no longer belongs to; she should have said any other youths, maybe, just maybe. And for Nawakwi, who would rape you madam if you move around freely, really, you are not free to move, or you just want to appear to have a case? So many beautiful-mini-skirted women are moving on the streets, and no one rapes them anyhow, so why you? Such cases should not even be heard in our honourable courts, there is simply no basis for claiming threat!
How does the view of HH come in this case. Kalusa is not UPND and even the report said former UPND. This was said all in the name of please the job giver. I do not think when one say Nawakwi belongs to the kitchen then it applies to all women. What Nawakwi should know is that Zambians do not want her (not women) to be president and have expressed that through elections. All should do is keep asking on merit not hiding behind the women movement. Nawakwi help Chiluba in stealing and I am sure he will render the support to the current government.

Secondly, has the UPND condemned the death of Menyani Zulu and offered any condolonces to the family, especially the children who have been orphaned, going further to indicate that those found wanting should be punished as their Party is not violent, if not, the Party will share in any verdict in this murder case and political fall out is too ghastly to contemplate. Stop insulting victims on ZWD, deal with political fall out from thse allegations and cases on the Party!!

She is hard working and a think tank among women-unmatched in Zambia as at now.She is not attending mwashibuken PHD like u, in your old age,she got all these credentials as a youth. She is better than HH, although they has equall qualification, but she has advantage of serving in govt as minister of finance,agri and energy, HH used to report to her during RAMCOZ saga. I have gone to many places within Zambia. Everytime I ask people about a viable option to Sata from the opposition, the answer I get when I mention HH is no no no…not that one. He is too tribal and is not just a politician. What sort of a politician would utter comments like “Sata and PF should start packing their bags because we are kicking them out of power in 2016” shortly after Sata and PF have one a parliamentary by-election and scooped 12 out of 14 local govt (grass-root) by-elections including in the perceived UPND strong holds?

I don’t hold Nawakwi in high esteem and I don’t think she does women’s causes any good. However, I think what Kalusa said deserves to be condemned by all right thinking people, even die-hard UPND supporters like #46 Hatembo. All credit to UPND, they forced this guy to resign from the party. Even a violent party like UPND seems to know when to draw the line. As for Nawakwi, well, she should not delude herself. There are better women in this country who are more qualified to run the country. Unfortunately most of them are in business and are not interested in politics.

The issues raised by Nawakwi are completely irrelevant to facts under which Kalusa has allegedly been reported to have said. The Court must be given Video tapes to prove the verbosity Kalusa disserminated to Nawakwi or Nawakwi’s credible witness or her alibi.. Apparently, if HH said what Nawakwi is stating in Court, we certainly would agree witn HH’s assessment that Nawakwi should best be confined to the Kitchen and stay away from politics. It is clear Nawakwi and Elias Chipimo were boughtby Sata in Brazil, thus resulting in the dilution of their political judgements on many national matters.

The judge should not allow political speeches in court. How does HH get involved? I do not support UPND because it being a mainly regional ;party but for Nawakwi to generalise and say that “UPND was a violent party that would inflict actual bodily harm on any person” is being very imaginative. What does she base this on? Does she mean UPND is not part of Zambia when she again says “Zambia is a peaceful country”? The judge should have asked Nawakwi’s lawyer to lead his client to talk facts and not stereotype based on an ex member of UPND.
Also, HH has not expressed issues against all women. He has a problem with Nawakwi period. Why should she hide behind her gender?
