The opposition MMD has denied owing any sums of money to the Bank of Zambia and NAPSA.

The two public entities are all seeking colossal sums of money in debt held by the former ruling party.

This week, the central bank it was seeking to recover over K4 billion which the MMD owes while NAPSA filed a law suit demanding the payment of over K90 million for failure to refurbish its former headquarters at the NAPSA Lusaka House.

But MMD Vice President for Political Affairs Michael Kaingu told a media briefing in Lusaka Tuesday that some disgruntled elements working with expelled National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe are the ones behind such attacks on the party.

“We are perpetuated by the happenings in our country today. There are some people that are throwing mud at our party. I want to categorically state that the MMD does not owe the two institutions any amounts,” Dr. Kaingu said.

“There are no judgements against the MMD involving these two institutions. What is been portrayed in the media is just sour grapes and malice from disgruntled persons.”

He appealed to MMD members countrywide to dismiss these allegations with the contempt it deserves and continue reorganizing the party.

Dr. Kaingu also strongly condemned the arrest of MMD leader Nevers Mumba and four MP’s on the Copperbelt.

Meanwhile, MMD President Dr Nevers Mumba and seven others failed to meet bail conditions so they have been remanded at Kamfisa. Irene Kunda who is acting for the accused confirmed that due to lack of time, they failed to meet the conditions set for bail. She will reapply tomorrow morning. The conditions are K2 million each with two working sureities

  1. The MMD got a wrong lawyer!! Irene Kunda is too slow, how can she fail to secure K10 million & 10 employed people within 1 hour? Sorry Nevers, but Zambia shall be saved.

  2. This is what you expect from an illiterate, tribal and primitive Head of State. We need a Generational change in State House not someone who served under the undemocratic and incompetent gov’t of KK. Sata is an embarrassment! Not even Rupiah was this shi.t. Sata is the kind of leader that is not only destroying the reputation of Zambia but the continent of Africa. Anyway what did people expect from some 70+ years fossil other than backwardness and dictatorship!

    • Iwe chi Gocalves, there is nothing tribal about this. Nevers and Sata are all Bembas. So what tribal are you talking about? I am not PF but know the right words to use against elders and those who wrong me. Violence begat violence. If your father was called Zinjathropus or Homohabilis or Kaffir or an old fool or Icipuba or imbushi ya muntu how would you feel? Respect elder pipo, not only Sata but all elders and your days will be lenghened. You think you prefered candidate will take over through insults? Mulibakulu muleichindika.

    • Let your father who is 40 years go and become President instead of supporting your under 5 chap who won’t even be president of Zambia at all. You are an *****. fool.m

    • Lee , respect is earned and not ascribed. You’re as primitive as Sata. You think simply because a politician is older than you the he has the licence to do as he wishes. Kaunda trampled on peoples rights. His disciple Sata is doing the same. And all you can come up with is that I should respect elders. You’re the backward people who are holding Zambia and Africa back.Sata and Kaunda are not my Parents. They are politicians who promised stuff and failed to deliver. And I have every right to speak. So my dear you can go to hell with that primitive rubbish of yours!

  3. Kaingu,is what you are saying true?Did NAPSA and BoZ dream that your party (MMD) owes them? If so,take them to court and let them pay colosal sums to your bankrupt party.

Nevers was detained bcoz he unlawfully called the people to gather without police permit. We all know that when there is any gathering eg childs birthday party gathering, there must be a police permit.Only that we have taken it for granted and we think its normal to gather anyhow. The law of the land say “gathering without police permit is a crime”.

  4. What a backward country, in this day and age Africans are behaving in such a primitive manner……a president trying to eliminate the opposition and his pfoolish followers call him a ‘man of action’?

  5. I think the arrest of Mumba and company is unfortunate and does not bode well for our democracy. However, the answer given by Kaingu concerning the alleged debts is not satisfactory. It is not enough to just blame the usual ‘phantom enemies’ of the party. We need a detailed explanation. We know that MMD had a lot of money at election time. Where did the money come from? It is also common knowledge that RB was very partial to NAPSA’s money. He even forced NAPSA to purchase a piece of land from one of his friends at an obscenely inflated price! Please give a more mature answer. We are not fools.

    • Detailed explanation of why someone is not guilty? Is this the new PF standard of justice? My dear its upto the accuser and prosecution authority to explain in detail the evidence they have against the accused! Its not the other way round!

  6. I thought that MMD was very popular on the CB. How can they fail to raise ZMK10 million as well as find 10 sureities? And where is Pande to tell us that they have enough money to pay?

  7. I cant believe that MMD has no money.Surely, can they fail to pay 2million each for bail?No..no..no…….lets get serious pipo. This party (MMD) was in power for 20yrs and just after months its bankrupt?wat garanty do i have that this party is not corrupt? We had UNIP, up to date UNIP has permanent structures and has other resources, wat of MMD?Aaaahhh….get serious ba swine imweeeee….

  8. Ba Lusaka Times, I feel that some of the bloggers are writing your articles. Your standard of reporting is getting worse by the day. I wonder whether it’s still the same people running it

  9. The fact is the MMD sat on these debts and NAPSA and BOZ could not act for fear of reprisal from the govt. Now things have changed. The MMD rule was the most corrupt in Zambia’s history and Its shocking that some bloggers are even trying to defend them and at the same time maligning Sata. Liato alone was found with billions what of the other guys not caught ? Rupiah and his MMD splashed billions in the last elections and you can still question such fact s.Do you live on another planet. The borrowed laxury of the diaspora will soon come to an end. Home is home guys be serious.

    • How do you know they were the most corrupt? U think UNIP and PF are clean? Why do you think the poverty levels in the country are as high as they were, even Worse in UNIP where you could not even afford to put 2 meals on the table for your family, it would take more than a week to travel from  chingola to Livingston.

  10. Its astounding how some ama zambians cheer on their leaders who make their life worse.Fifty yrs and zed hasn’t developed yet we repeat the same idiocy.Sata is using BoZ for political aims instead of MCS focussing on the job of uplifting zambians but you cheer him on.But that is zedians-they lack focus, discipline or diligence and Sata is just helping them roast in their own f.o.o.lish soup.Whenever i see how dirty Lusaka is i just notice how zambian lack focus, diligence or discipline and Sata’s distracted focus on MMD or UPND is just an extention of this unfortunate zambian trait.Finishing off the opposition is more urgent than focusing on zambian challenges.Sad,sad,sad.

  11. Nevers ena nangu ayiminina ne chibwi pama voti ni can’t never. Kanshi tabwaba popular ku kitwe teko mwali bashimapepo. Ba Victory ministry ubwingi ku kitwe mwafilwa ukuchita raise K14m ba president check yourself.

  12. As long as the Public Order Act is in law, Mumba is arrestable because he did not have a permit. Just like Liato who burried billions without a  burial Permit !   \:d/

  13. chi oga when one splashes money it doesn’t mean s/he is corrupt, thats ukwa way of doing things investigate and take the man to court idot

    • Well they failed to bail out their President because suddenly MMD has no money to splash. Does that make sense to you now @26. K2M and 1 Kitwe surity and the whole MMD fails to meet such simple conditions making their president languish into a 2nd night in cells. MMD thrieved on tax payer’s money now they are yet to feel the pinch when Baillifs pounce on them to recover the K4Billion BOZ debt. Mumba will regret having inherited a bankrupt party.

  14. Away from the NAPSA and BOZ shani shani, but ba Kaingu you owe us that movie by Iris, any latest apart from the first edition
