Standard Chartered Bank Zambia PLC has spent over K5 billion on the Zambian Kwacha rebasing sensitisation exercise across the country.

Standard Chartered Bank Zambia PLC Country Corporate Affairs Manager Chanda Chime-Katongo said the bank was now ready to switch to the 2013 currency rebasing exercise.

Mrs. Chanda said this in a press statement released to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Lusaka today.

“AS a bank, we are working very closely with the Bank of Zambia as they guide us accordingly and ensure we transition smoothly to the use of the new currency,” she said.

And Standard Chartered Bank Zambia PLC Chief Information Officer Musonda Musakanya assured the bank’s clients that the financial institution was ready for the Kwacha rebasing exercise.

Mrs. Musakanya said the bank was not anticipating to face any problems and further assured clients that it has also tested its system to ensure compatibility with the new currency code and the rebased kwacha.

“Speaking from a systems perceptive, we have tested all our systems to ensure compatibility with the new currency code and the rebased kwacha,” she said.

She commended the bank’s loyal customers for supporting the its innovative products and services such as the internet banking which she said has strengthened the instituion’s franchise considerably in Zambia’s increasingly competitive environment in 2012.

  1. That is really PEANUTS in the wider scheme of this large project!! You have gone ahead announcing this to try and misinform the unsuspecting public. And I now think your Bank is not ready for the change over!! Rebasing is about more than testing Cash dispensers – it is rather to do with carrying ALL stakeholders and supporting them throughout the period of change…In a way, that is why Barclays is always ahead of you…..your managers simply have no clue of what this change entails!! All the same Good luck BUT keep your fingers crossed!!

  2. clearly total does not understand that for numberes below 5, you round down…looking at the photo

    • No, they have rounded correctly.

What I don’t get is why they need to round at all. The pump can still be set to charge KR8.155 per liter and will round off the total depending how many liters you buy. It’s not like anyone who buys just one liter now is going to pay K8,155 exactly since we don’t have five Kwacha notes!

  3. This is something of a change no Mizinga Melu the publicity seeking CEO of the Year 2012 – is she on holiday? At least the Country Corporate Affairs Manager gets a chance to do her job for a change.
But then change which bank is not ready…only the sleepy media is fooled as they are unaware of this banks aggressive marketing strategy as the continue to give free space.

  5. @Jay Jay: You are a jealousy loser – leave Mizinga alone – are you not ashamed of yourself? Mizinga is the finest CEO/Banker in Zambia at the moment and she does her job exceedingly well!! She compares to others of her kind like Sir Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England. You are accusing her of seeking publicity BUT actually, she is just someones who is hands on; likes taking ownership and doing her job perfectly. Mind you she is not as laid back like YOU and many other dumb Zambians who you are used to working with. She does exactly what is they do in London, Paris, New York and she will remain Zambia’s only real GERM even if you are jealousy of her success!! Just hang yourself and DIE with your ENVY.

  6. Is this worth going public about? So which bank has not done what you have done? Other banks have done the same and probably spent more yet they are not talking.
