The Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) has reported that President Michael Sata will be arriving tomorrow at Kenneth kaunda International Airport at 06:00hrs in the morning.

And the opposition United Liberal Party (ULP) has challenged Republican President Michael Sata to share his reflections when he returns home by engaging the media through a press conference.

Party president, Sakwiba Sikota, said that his party welcomes the move for the Head of State to go for a retreat somewhere and reflect on national matters affecting Zambia.

Mr Sikota observed that as per tradition in the history of Zambia, any sitting President, like Mr Sata, always shared their reflections with the nation and addressed contentious issues through the press during the period of reflection.

Mr Sikota said that First Republican President, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, his successor, the late Frederick Chiluba, late Levy Mwanawasa and fourth and immediate past President, Rupiah Banda, used to go for retreats to Kasaba Bay and Mfuwe and held press conferences at State House where they shared their reflections through the media and hence for President Sata to follow suit and share his reflections when he returns to Zambia.

The ULP leader was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.

“As ULP, we are eagerly waiting for President Sata to share his reflections with the nation when he returns home from his retreat. The former presidents, Kenneth Kaunda, Frederick Chiluba, Levy Mwanasawsa, Rupiah Banda did and so President Sata should do so and share his reflections when he returns home,” Mr Sikota said.

Mr Sikota, a renowned lawyer, however, commended Government for breaking the silence on the whereabouts of the head of state.

“It is a good thing for Government to break the silence on the whereabouts of the Head of State who is the father of the nation but we challenge President Sata to hold a press conference when he returns home and share his reflections with us,” he said.

Chief Government Spokesperson, Kennedy Sakeni, said on national television, ZNBC news Saturday evening that President Sata needs time to reflect and have a peace of mind alone in a secret location after working so hard.

Mr Sakeni said there is no need for the Zambian people to panic because there was an Acting President, Alexander Chikwanda in place and that it is unnecessary to speculate about the whereabouts of President Sata.

Mr Sakeni, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, could not disclose when President Sata would be back but assured the nation the Head of State will be back in the country shortly.

Ruling Patriotic Front Media and Publicity Director, Chanda Mfula, added his voice, saying the Government is not in a crises and service delivery was not on a stand-still to force it to make public whereabouts of President Sata.

Mr Mfula said Mr Sata is enjoys to live a private life and, therefore, confidentiality should be respected because government has not stopped functioning noble duties.

He stated that there is no need to speculate about the whereabouts of President Sata as he is safe ‘somewhere’ and in good health.

A number of people have been questioning on the whereabouts of the President since the Head of State never arrived in the country after the close of the African Union Summit in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa last week.

Among them is out-spoken opposition MMD president Dr Nevers Mumba, who has demanded that the nation be told the condition and whereabouts of President Sata.

Dr Mumba said lack of information as to the whereabouts of the father of the nation after the AU Summit was unfortunate as it breeds anxiety amongst the Zambian citizens.

Dr Mumba advised government that it was imperative that Zambians were informed of the travels of the Head of state for various reasons.

The opposition leader charged that the President is entitled to be flown to any destination where perceived best medical attention could be given and as such if President Sata is sick such information would help the citizens to pray for the Head of State.

And OPEN Society Foundation has condemned calls by the opposition parties to make public the whereabouts of President Michael Sata.

Foundation Executive Director Sunday Chanda said in a statement to ZNBC that there is no crisis in the Governance of the country for people to demand for the presence of President Sata.

Mr Chanda says the government system is working and delivery of services has not come to a stand still.

He reminded MMD to stop pretending like they cared for the interests of citizens when they were conveyors of rumors.

  1. I have just got news that there were no zambians at the airport to receive the national team, what a pathetic people! when they won you were dying of happiness, some of you received for free you know what, from the street girls, everyone was happy, am very so sad and shocked what a people what a country! yours is yours whatever and nomatter what, really it’s a shame i wish i could insult right now!

    • Both camps serve the nation though diffrently and the other team need more moral support than the other, my point? you know what my point is Nostradamus.

    • I don’t care whether they were welcomed or not for their pathetic and crappy play. One thing I am happy about is that we saved colossal sums of money which could have been wasted on these nincompoops.
I pray that this money be applied on developmental programmes such as health or education

    • We (soccer fans)don’t share the huge allowances national team players earn $90,000 per player. A win is not to much to ask from these under worked and overpaid over rated chaps. Remember the minimum wage for working for 30 days is only $100

    • You see how interesting it’s getting with soccer nowadays ka? Ivory coast Expired! Football is a game and as such, you dont expect the same form or trend in every competition, it doesnt matter which finall you get to the important thing is to get the cup, which ivory coast failed to do even last year dispite their stamina, atleast we quenched it bane, i never spoke of the millions proposed by the president and the same goes for the lads, they didnt ask for it and am 100% sure that they are not politicians, so whatever reason you give to clarify my statement above, it doesnt apply! Just happy that IV ain’t going nowhere, YAGUWA!

  2. Sata looked more fit than the dogs are saying. I never seen a sick person look that healthy. Anyway, why Zambian presidents get ill whenever they go for AU summits? One of them didn’t even return walking.

    • ULICHIPUBA,HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF RETORCHING A PICTURE,SEE THE PICTURE WHEN HE WAS WITH MUGABE AND THE TANZANIAN PRESIDENT.THE MAN LOOKED OLDER THAN MUGABE…..THIS IS KABIMBAS WORK

  3. The information of president Michael Sata coming back tomorrow is quite surprising to most Zambians. Yes, zambians knew that president Sata went to Ethiopia for AU meeting which ended almost three weeks ago. All other heads of state were seen heading back to their respective countries. Mr Sata never returned to Zambia. His unknown whereabouts has created confusion in the nation. The country has remained in the dark all this time without any convincing reasons of his absence. PF govt has been hiding the Zambian president of his whereabouts to Zambians. So what is this information of his return tomorrow as if the nation was told where he had gone. As Saki has put it let the president explain to Zambians about his absence from the country. Am sure Malipenga did not do a good job.

    • you ***** who told you that the AU summit finished three weeks ago when it finished just a few days ago from today. This just exposes your ignorance you *****. speaking without facts. What a shame

  4. Wait, is the man on holiday or was he in hospital? this is something one does not want to confuse when talking ka? But I like the request from Sikota I as a citizen only hear the presidents making pronouncements and demands, defending his admin, never something like this, I hope we see it before 2016.

  5. Attention: Micheal Chilufya Sata
You must tell us when are intending to register for a formal degree at a reputable university? We want a head of state who can read a speech accurately and he/she must also think critically and rationally. We want a head of state who can construct logical arguments without resorting to accusations of tribalism in reverse. Yet, the opposite of his accusations is true. Please, put your house in order.

    • Naine chilenkalipa sana kwena pa lwa kwa Given Lubinda. Bring back our real foreign minister not liar kabimba

  6. Fidel Castrol ,Hugo Chavez. When these dictators fall sick the world knows. Whats wrong with knowing the health status of our own dictator. How will the saints pray for someone that claims he is just fine when the opposit is true.

  7. This man mocked others over their sicknessses thats why he cant open up on his ailing health & he cant hold a press conference because of his deceitful life.
But God is exposing him slowly bt sure. Bwana you cant hide anymore, your health is not so gud.
Children of the pipo you mocked are very bitter with you & wish God could punish you also

    • YOU are doing the same, you entire statement reflects you reminding him what he might have done to others which you shouldnt as it seems you are rejoicing in his sufferings and as such you do exactly what he did, therefore, expect the same my friend, might not be the same but the feeling of hurt in your heart will be the same, remeber, you dont need to say a word to react to any subject, even a thought is enough to imply how you feel about something and that carries weight as wel, curses are passed on, even if you wish ill on a bad person, if they carry a curse, it will be transfered to you, so be careful with some of these comments people!

  8. Leave him alone ,maybe he was shopping.we all do some shopping when we travel outside the country. He owes no one an explanation.

  9. I THINK ITS THE INFO FLOW THAT IS A PROBLEM IN PF. I DONT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH PF DEVULGING THE INFO THAT H.E IS ON RETREAT IN THIS PARTICULAR PLACE. I THINK THERE IS NOTHING TO HIDE BUT EVERYTHING TO WORRY IF THEY LEAVE PEOPLE TO SPECULATE ON H.E ‘S WHEREABOUTS

  10. According to us, we reported last week thus: “SATA BACK HOME, OH NO NOT IN ZAMBIA. BUT WHERE IS HE?
A check at State House (show) that those soldiers who stand like robots at the gate when the president is inside were not there.
Meanwhile, there is rumor that Sata went to UK from Ethiopia. What he went to do will be known by the end of the day as we are on the ground trying to locate the president throughout the world.”
Our story was based on our State House sources. As far as we are concerned, the president had been flown to India for medicals even though we were not sure when the he had arrived in Zambia and the time he left for India! My editor sometimes is so shameless at telling lies that he does even care what he prints as long as the “dictator” doesn’t muzzle us. HA! HA!

  11. LT, you are the most unprofessional news media around, for nearly 2 weeks you kept mute on reports of the president’s whereabouts and now you are quick to report Sakeni’s lies that the president was reflecting in solitary confinement at some unknown location because he works so hard. Disgusting!
No matter how long it will take for the truth to be laid bare, it will come with a bang.

  12. Any adult who is 50 and above needs periodic medical checks MAINLY for 4 THINGS namely
    – BP,
    – Cholesterol,
    – blood sugar levels and for any
    – growth in the prostate glands or
you will be ‘real late’ like Levy, Chiluba and Meles Zenawi.

Dr Kaseba is doing a commendable job by keeping a close eye on the health of madala. She applies brakes whenever the MAN tries to go full throttle.

You do not need to exhibit any external symptoms of sickness to book yourself in a clinic.

    • @13, Sadly you have missed the point, nobody has said the president should not have a medical check, the bone of contention is the secrecy of his whereabouts and his reported ill-health. Secondly the failure by those GRZ officials to keep the nation informed about their leader when out of the country.

  13. We have no problem with the president going for a check up(despite the tantrums he used to throw when RB or late Mwanawasa did the same) What we don’t like is the secrecy and blatant lies.It shows the Pf government has no respect for the people that put them in power. RB would inform us even when he went to get a knee check up in SA.whats wrong with Ba Sata informing the public since its the publics money he is using. If he went for a retreat how dare he go outside the country wasting funds isn’t there Kasaba bay in Zambia or Livingstone? He castigated people going on business trips abroad now he goes on holiday?

  14. Ci Satana nalicisula maningi,Pliz advise Sata not to pretend to be a Christian Cibi umutima citata,d way it is ugly outside dats d inner heart as well.Reap wat you sow citata iwe.

  15. Remember wen Teta was brought back from SA one lady Doctor by the name of CK gathered nurses from maternity wing and started dancing so dat couple l for one nalibasula sana.Ci satana ati want o Zambians to have a 3 meal per day ukunyafye ifisushi ci mudala ici.People re suffering poor pipo who voted for you .God wanna punish you pipo.

  16. Bisani matenda maliro sibabisa. The man deserves suffering hw does he surely call the late Kunda ‘ati redlips kunda’.
i know he has not suffered yet 2016 is very far he will not manage to hide his health

    • @kachimbala. YOU HAVE SPOKEN FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO KNOW THE WHEREABOUTS OF THE PRESIDENT. THE IDEA IS TO WISH HIM ILL HEALTH AND DEATH. THIS IS A TYPICAL REACTION OF A BITTER CROP OF PERSONS. EVERY PERSON HAS THE RIGHT TO KEEP THEIR ILLNESS SECRETE IF THEY WANT. AND NO ONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. IT IS THE USUAL DISCREDITED OPPOSITION WHICH IS LOOKING FOR POLITICAL MILEAGE. INSTEAD OF CONCENTRATING ON CAMPAIGNING FOR THE FORTH COMING BYE ELECTION YOU ARE BUSY TRYING TO VUVUZELA ABOUT HIS GOING FOR PERSONAL MEDICAL CHECK-UPS. THE MAN IS COMING BACK TOMORROW VERY HEALTHY AND IN HIGH SPIRITS TO YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT.

  17. There is a whole section of people in Zambia who take our current President like their personal property. This kind of mentality breeds disunity & must be discouraged.

  18. Those Tonga *****s at tge WatchDog must
    be biting their tongues.
Like it or not Michael is our president.
Your Under 5 will Neva enter State House!!

  19. What secret was kept about the president’s whereabouts?

The USA president and the British PM and German Chancellor etc have full equipped clinics complete with special doctors at their disposal at their residences, that is why they do not go out to seek outside medicals.

What the Zambians must realize is that their president is above 50, he needs to go for medical checks now and again, he is married to a medical doctor who knows that for our president to perform optimally he needs regular body tune ups. The president does not go to Kasaba Bay for picnics as Sikota is implying!

Is the president’s job description include addressing press conferences whenever he comes back from his outing? Does Obama address press conferences whenever he comes back from Camp David?

    • Yes the presidents job description is that he is the principle spokesperson for the government. By failing to hold even a single press conference he has flopped miserably as a President. It seems like you do not believe the President is capable of reflection and sharing his deep reflections with the Zambian people he is suppossed to inspire!!

  20. So he went to Ethiopia via challenger jet then the jet back empty and disappears then suddenly comes back on a commercial airliner at 6:00pm from Europe…where was this man? Imagine if this was LPM or RB doing this Sata would have been protesting about misuse of public resources.
The opposition should press him for a press conference at State House Asap!!

  21. You can’t be a public figure using other people’s money in this case Zambian tax payers money and expect to lead a private life how?Why did you stand for president? Did you think it was an easy job? Sorry cobra you have to earn your money KR mate

  22. opposition leaders should not falsly make alarming statements, whats wrong if our beloved president was just having a little time off for himself after the au conffrence. why does Sakwiba and Nevers always make so much noise. No matter what Sakwiba and Nevers do because H.H and Nevers will never entre state house as aZambian president. long live bs Sata wishing you a long healthy life.

    • According to Sakeni he was not just having a little quiet time to himself. Sakeni says the President was “reflecting”. We just want to know what he was reflecting about on our time and money.

  23. President Satas flight BA0255 left London terminal 5 today 3rd February 2013 at 18:50
expected arrival time in lusaka 06:49 tomorrow 4th February 2013

    • Nothing is secret any more in this Global village Maxwell. that’s what happens when you hide information from people there will find it . Do you live in Cuba?by the way thanks for the compliment. I will leave your compliment to other sensible readers to comment not me. If I do I’ll be bringing myself down to your level. All I’m trying to say is that you can run but you can’t hide.

  24. Saki is right. Sakeni says the President was reflecting using our time and money so Sata must share his reflections with us, otherwise we will be nustified to conclude that Sata was just on a picnic.

  25. How long do we have to wait! better coming in horizontal and draped in Zambian flag, Oh what a day, Oh what a relief that would be….

  26. NFULA CANNOT SAY THAT THE PRESIDENT ENJOYS PRIVATE LIFE BECAUSE SATA IS EMPLOYED BY THE ZAMBIANS WHO PUT HIM IN STATE HOUSE AND HE IS BEING PAID BY US ZAMBIANS WHO HAVE EMPLOYED HIM THEREFORE WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW WHERE OUR HARD EARNED MONEY MEANT FOR BETTER SCHOOLS FOR OUR CHILDREN AND BETTER MEDICAL FACILITIES IS BEING SPENT BY THIS SATA WHO IS TAKING US FOR FOOLS

  27. He shoulda stayed on in Ethiopia, adopt an Ethiopian name like Girma Wolde Bekele and become a Paya Farmer there. We don’t need him in Zed anymore.Yeye ni bure kabisa shenzi type.

  28. The only sensible politician is Chipimo. HH will loot big time. Neverss. no please. He is greedy same as HH we shall remember Namugala and Kachz the way we remember CC III. PF are proven failiars,

  29. Yes, I think the PF/govt can be a bit more forthcoming about the whereabouts of our President in order to avoid rumors. If they want to be coy about his health, well, that’s a different matter altogether. After all, health matters are personal, and even Presidents are entitled to some level of privacy when it comes to medical issues. But hiding the movements of the Republican President is really going beyond what is acceptable!

  30. Sata should own up that he is a sick man. Zambians are sensible enough not to declare him senile as he tried to do with late president Mwanawasa. Mr Sata mocked and rediculed the sickness of late president Mwanawasa and agitated for speaker of parliament to declare the presidency vacant. That is how gullible and selfish Mr Sata can be and forgot who is really incharge of his life. Complete recovery is not possible with oldage and the nation will eventually know what is being hidden its a matter of time.

  31. Other than being head of state, the President’s other portfolio is commander in chief of the Zambia armed forces. His unexplained leave of absence has security implications and brings instability among military personnel. This is so anywhere in world. If u watched the movie ‘Shaka’ starring late Henry Cele, Shaka was fatally wounded in an assassination attempt and was immobilized for a few days. His Indunas strongly urged him to ‘exhibit’ himself to the people as proof that was still alive and well ebough to lead. He literally limped to the gathering and cries of “wena we Zullu” , “Bayete” rang through the crowd. Thus he quelled a potential rebellion from his impis and people. This narration is ‘treasonable” Stella Libongani. This is what happened when a commander in chief…

  32. *** Mbambande ***

I AM RESIDENT IN THE UK. I AM NOW 60.
MY DOCS HAVE ADVISED ME TO DO MED CHECKS BESIDES EXERCISES ONCE IN A MONTH, WHICH I SO MUCH APPRECIATE.
I AM AS HEALTHY AND STRONG AS A FIDDLE.

ANDERSON AND LEVY DISREGARDED THIS TIP. WHERE ARE THEY?

I SAW THE PRESIDENT HERE IN LONDON.
    HE IS JUST FINE.
HE IS SMART. PLSE GIVE HIM SPACE…..

  33. U are missing the point Levy. I think no one has said he should not go for regular medical check ups. unlike you Levy, Sata is a head of state and Commander in Chief, therefore a public servant and on public call 24\7. If he wants a sick leave, hell yes! He can get it. He wants a private holiday? Sure! He can have it! But he must tell us. We are his employers. Otherwise he’s free to leave for good. Unfortunately, that’s what the office of presidency entails. Period!

  34. What does this chap bo Sikota want to do with his life? He makes a lot of money defending those vile MMD thugs what more does he want. We are happy with our president; why does he not stand in Livingstone?

  35. hehehehehe..reflections indeed..thats if he knows what it means..preoccupied with his ailing health./…kikikikikikikikik

  36. you tongas why do you like wishing our president bad lucks ba shetani imwe, mwanya your hh will touch state house mwefi ngombe mwe.GOD bless my president with longlife abash chi sakwiba.

  37. Mr. Sakwiba Sikota said that First Republican President, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, his successor, the late Frederick Chiluba, late Levy Mwanawasa and fourth and immediate past President, Rupiah Banda, used to go for retreats to Kasaba Bay and Mfuwe and held press conferences at State House where they shared their reflections through the media …. Iwe kamudala who told that Mr. Sata will fail to hold a press conference. no one will force him to do that. He knows what he is doing. He work very hard to become the president, he move from this side to that side. You are wasting your time in courts instead of campaigning and selling yourself. Lobe tawakabepo president…

    • Saki has a thousand times more chances of being President than you. What Saki has said makes a lot of sense and we are all waiting for the President to share his “reflections” with us.

  38. The same way that you wish the President dead, your father’s employees wish him too. Be careful with the state of your soul. God loves all!

  39. ????
-“SATA ARRIVES IN INDIA FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT”.
-“PRESIDENT MICHAEL SATA HAS BEEN TAKEN TO INDIA FOR HIS CANCER AND HEART TREATMENT AFTER SPENDING A DAY IN UK AT A CLINIC OWNED BY A PROMINENT ZAMBIAN BUSINESSMAN.” A SOURCE WITHIN STATE HOUSE HAS SAID…..
-“AILING SATA EXPECTED IN THE COUNTRY MONDAY MORNING” ETC
-“SATA SNEAKS INTO THE COUNTRY AMID TIGHT SECURITY”

WAS THE PRESIDENT EVER FLOWN TO INDIA??????

Surely, its headlines like above that can provoke any responsible political party to rather safeguard the integrity of its leader. Yes, we are in a democracy where free flow of information must be respected. But we must uphold the tenets of journalistic ethics.

  40. Sakwiba this is the right way of being an opposition. You dont have to rage all the time like some parties want to do. You just soberly point out the expected and wait for the ruling party’s answer.

  41. The First Lady’s wedding band got lost in Serenje that time when she left state house for a few days. Don’t worry I will ask Flinto Chadia to make a replacement. Is that ok with you mwe ma bosses?

  42. where does sakwiba sikota come from? ooh its from that cursed province which will never produce a republican president!!!!
if only saki can change his tribe to namwangana perhaps he can stand in muchinga province since a bye election is looming there.

    • You can certainly get lost you midget brain. If you think by hiding in other people’s successes you are succesful that just shows off your cowardly behaviour that leads to bullying those who are different from you. I think you are the ideots that are making govt want to start censoring these websites because you spew sewage from your mouth.
