Weekend Scorecard: Jacob Mulenga is Africa’s Number 2 in Holland

Share

Striker Jacob Mulenga of FC Utrecht is currently Africa’s second best striker in the Dutch league this season.

The 29-year-old ex-Afrisports strikers’ brace on Sunday in Utrecht’s 4-0 home win over Roda JC moved his tally of the 2012/2013 Eredivisie to 11from 20 games played for sixth placed Utrecht.

Mulenga is however eighth on the top scorers chart and 11 goals behind Cote d’Ivoire striker Wilfried Bony of fourth placed Vitesse who is top scorer on 22 goals this season.

The duo are currently the only Africans in the top 10 Dutch league hit list this season.

Mulenga’s form is in contrast to his bombed show in the game against Ethiopia at the 2013 Africa Cup in the midst of Zambia’s flopped defence of the crown they won in 2012.

  1. Who is Jacob Mulenga to corrupt journalists and write good about him when SEEING is believing from the recent AFCON? To hell with reporting good for Bemba players, on Mayuka you are quite because he is LOZI

    • Zambia’s poor showing at AFCON SA2013 was almost entirely due to poor decisions by the coach. Coaches must have no favorites in the team as players’ form fluctuate from game to game. For instance Mbesuma scored in Zambia’s one-all lucky draw against Ethiopia, but was hopeless against Burkina Faso. And I think we needed Jacob in the Game against BFA. Chris Katongo also appeared to be the guy we’d have benefitted from the later moments of the BFA tie. You need very skillful players against some opponents whereas stubborn as tenacious players are also needed in other games. Am just worried about Mayuka- the lad hasn’t really impressed since AFCON 2012, and maybe Southampton should consider loaning him out, coz this no-game time problem is not relegating him to a second class l

    • Malinso, i watched in one of the games this month and i was very impressed. Sad thing i didn’t get a chance to watch the Zambia Ethiopia match.

    • Maliso we love Mayuka, but the saints are finishing a very good talent imagine if they dont play him till next camp do you seriously think he have match fitness?am also worried mbesuma is not doing what he did before afcon at club level.
some times player management is important show your players you need them as a coach how do you take so many players and only play the same guys?

    • He played 15 minutes!!! You should instead be wondering why the coach never tuned his plans to allow such a heavy weapon to perform for Zambia! They boy is committed and the powers that may be failed to use him. Of all our strikers he was the top man with top scoring form…and the coach sat him down on the bench!

    • He was never really given a chance,if u watched the game up clos he was used on the wing because at some point we had mbesuma, jacob and mayuku was introduced now the man was only give 20 mins,Malinso dont just be a soccer fan analyse games.

  2. hahaha….calling each other mbushi and coacroch…..u make me laugh…some of us will remain supporting zambia or chinkale bwanji..

  3. Who cares he failed at AFCON 2013. We wont rely on jounalist stories. the guy failed terribly at AFCON 2013 and is not a reliable Zedian player.

its even better to try and depend on local players. let him enjoy his form in weal leagues.

    • Ba Fiji to me he never failed he was practically not tried, the strikers that played mayuka and mbesuma failed, watch all the games mayuka never short on goal except the penalty he made for us which is good. mbesuma tried his best he held the but back pass like strikes are not good for marksman.its not just point finger jacob is one man and only featured for 20 min,so why didnt the other guys score.

  4. Who played well amongs those strikers at AFCON, Mbesuma was a shadow of himself, mayuka did nothing apart from winning a fake penalty, so how do you question mulenga’s performance when he was coming back after some long abasence. and you did not even give hiom good playing time to show his prowess. your coach was under massive pressure from fans and FAZ to make teams that did not deliver. mayuka has not been having playing time at Soton how do you expect him to play here, to replicate what, bench warming……? think guys. Jacob should have been given more playing and you should ahve judged him from that. the way mayuka was used with no result. we were not just ready for that Afcon defence tho we claimed we were. congrats Jacob and keep banging them goals.

  5. Zambia will never develop as long as we have people who think like Malinso, out of all things u bring tribal discusion here. Mayuka is loved by Zambians, we actually adore the guy, but in EPL he has not made any impact yet because of fewer chances given to him but Jacob is doing fine, scoring and so on. So whats yo real problem? tribe or soccer? grow up bro

  6. lets not bring tribalism into football.it just doesn’t rhyme well.mayuka needs more playing time on the pitch and not benchwarming.otherwise he will finish…..jacob has been banging them goals since he came back from injury.it’s a pity we dont watch the eredevise as much as we watch the EPL.Mayuka needs to go to a club where he can be playing regularly.

  7. ah!! we want the goals where they will count. we want them at the national team. we dont care if you score 100 in Holland. all we want is for you to replicate that form. Mayuka replicated the form at Young boys when Zambia won the afcon

  8. talk about Roderick Kabwe. I watched him play for Zambia in the frienlies and I think he needs to be in the National team

  9. That Malinso chap! What is he up to? Clearly trying to fuel genocide here. But when this happens, he will be the first one to get affected. Watch Truth and Reconciliation Commissions in Rwanda and South Africa, and see how people like you look stupid when the odds are against them. Mind you the journalists writing on Jacob are originally not even Zambian. So how do you talk about tribes here. Stupiti!

  10. @malinso is very short sighted. How old are you my dear? You only look at what is right under your nose……..you cant see where you are comi9ng from and where u’r going. Use your brains bro….dont just criticise.
