The Kenyan election authorities have requested Zambia’s fourth President Rupiah Banda to reach out to Kenyan political leaders and advise them against issuing any statements that might plunge the East African country into chaos after Monday’s general elections.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Ahmed Isaack Hassan made the request when President Banda, who is leader of the Carter Centre international election observer mission at the Kenyan elections, paid a courtesy call on the elections chief.

Mr Hassan said his commission had done all that it could to ensure the holding of free and fair elections and hoped that all political players would play their part in ensuring that peace is maintained both before and after the elections.

“We like to ask you, as former head of state, to appeal to the presidential candidates to avoid wild allegations of rigging. This could spark the problems we experienced after the 2007 elections. But so far, there’s no motivation for violence,” Mr Hassan said.

This is contained in a statement to ZANIS , today , signed by the Fourth President ‘s Deputy Administrative Assistant Kennedy Limwanya.

Dr John Stremlau the delegation co-leader and Carter Centre vice-president for peace programmes, Dr David Pottie, who is associate director of the Carter Centre’s democracy programme, and field office director Stephane Mondon, accompanied President Banda to the IEBC offices.

The former Zambian President later held a meeting with the leaders of the election observer missions from the Commonwealth, European Union (EU), African Union (AU), the East African Community and the Great Lakes region.

The meeting, which was chaired by AU Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, included leader of the Commonwealth observer team and former Botswana President Festus Mogae, former Mozambiquan President and leader of the AU team Joaquim Chissano, and EU team leader Alojz Peterle.

President Banda concluded his day’s programme with a meeting with Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Willy Mutunga who assured the Carter centre delegation that the Kenyan Judiciary had no option but to deliver efficiently in order to restore the confidence that was eroded in the 2007 elections.

Kenyans go to the polls on 4 March in the first general election since the disputed contest of December 2007 unexpectedly exploded into violence.

During the elections Kenyans will choose a president, members of parliament and senators, county governors and members of the newly formed county assembly.

According to the BBC reports, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki will not be seeking re-election.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga, his partner in the uneasy coalition, is a front-runner in the presidential race. The post of prime minister – created in a peace agreement negotiated by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan – will cease to exist.

  1. IF HE CAN NOW ACCEPT TO PLAY A PR ROLE IN KENYA, WHY CANT HE ADVISE HH AND HIS ARMSTRONG AGAINST ISSUING INFLAMMATORY AND INSULTING STATEMENTS AGAINST OUR PRESIDENT AND AGAINST INNOCENT CITIZENS WHO ARE CALLED NAMES SUCH AS “USEFUL IDIIOTS”?

    • Useful *****s is in regard to people being used by a certain cartel for their own selfish gains. If you are not one of those being used then you are not an *****. I am not being used and I have never been used hence proud to shout that I am not a useful *****. I also agree that there are many useful *****s.

  2. POLITICAL INSULTS AGAINST OPPONENTS AND NAME CALLING DURING CAMPAIGNS ARE NORMS IN AFRICA OTHERWISE WHY DID RB NOT CAUTION ME WHEN I WAS DOING THE SAME ON HIS BEHALF HERE AT HOME? OR IS HE TRYING TO PLAY A ROLE AN ELDER STATESMAN GAME?

  3. Ala Bee is at home there in Nairobi with those corrupt Kenyan *****, let the shameless chap stay there for good.

    • Ah Maxwell you are still alive, I was getting worried. I remember you signing the Choma Declaration-kekekekekeke. Leave AlaB alone. Ma jelasi!!!!!!!!

    • As usual,Maxwell spouting his bitter venom of visceral hatred. You might out do Hitler on the scale of utter hatred.

  4. Why does there have to be a co-leader of delegation? Did one not wish to relinquish the title of ‘leader’ to the other or is it useful last minute PR tokenism or some democratic symbolic useful practice? For an example of someone who has been through it see smiling leader 1. We won’t put up with BS and are coming down on your a$$ real hard see leader 2. If you trust your fellow African see number 1. If you prefer a non African see number 2. And so on…

On a serious note best of luck Kenya.

  5. People should learn how to read and analyse before chatting rubbish. The Man is being asked by the Kenyan Electoral authority to reach out to political leaders and advise them.Something I can’t see our president do or accept. We accused RB of being a thief and voted him out of office and now people are even calling for the removal of his immunity all this without telling us what he actually stole? Leave the man alone! He may have been a thief but at least the country enjoyed peace under his rule. We have a serious problem in country today and it’s nothing to do with RB. I was not a fun of him when he was president but I am willing to forgive him for all the good work he is currently doing on behalf of our country.

    • This is the retirement work they promised that corrupt chap, don’t flatter yourself with your self soothing posts here…

    • ….but some people are empty tins! who promised what retirement? Show us facts my friend. No one is saying RB is clean here. If the Man is thief then charge him and stop speculating. If the Americans and the Kenyans can make good use of him then let him carry out his duty in peace. People are sick and tired of excuses from you sponsored dunderheads who praise and hero worship just for the sake of it. It’s people like you who will plunge our beautiful country in to civil strife with your selfish ideologies. What ever this man and his predecessors did is child’s play compared to what’s happing in Zambia now. You will soon realise that you are a minority. Watch this space.

    • Please please don’t mind this chap @Sikiriti here he crawled from under an ancient fossil rock today and climbed on his high horse and comes to lecture us with his drivelling self soothing posts. How dare you…

RB IS A MAN OF INTEGRITY! EXCUSE ME!

DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT INTEGRITY MEANS VISA VIS CHIMBA’S UNRELENTING BROADCASTS ABOUT RB’S OPPONENTS? AMSTERDAM HAS IS BUSY ORGANIZING RB’S ENGAGEMENTS WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD JUST TO GIVE PEOPLE LIKE U, USEFUL IDIIOTS, SOME KIND OF DECENT IMPRESSION.

RB A MAN OF INTEGRITY! EXCUSE ME..

KK WAS IN POWER FOR CLOSE TO 30 YEARS AND YET PANJI KAUNDA COULD NOT EVEN AFFORD HIRING A CAB FROM CHIPATA TO LUSAKA. RB, YOUR MAN OF INTEGRITY, WAS IN POWER BARELY 3 YEARS AND HIS CHILDREN WERE FLYING CHARTERED PLANES ALL OVER THE WORLD.

PLEASE LOOK UP FOR A BETTER WORD THAN ‘INTEGRITY’.

    • You are highly uninformed, James Banda was running a successful businesses long before the Father became a President. Have it you wondered up to now why the has not publicly reviewed to the Zambians what offenses James Banda is allegedly to have committed, Have you not wondered interpol dismissed Zambia’s request to place James Banda on the interpol list, Interpol removed James Banda from its list. The onus still remains on the government to inform the Zambian specific or possible criminal charges against James Banda and not for us to start guessing what offenses James is allegedly to have committed.

  7. This is the work of that Mark Storella the US embassy chap paying back this Ala Bee for stepping down when the shameless fat chap nearly refused to accept the results. Those US chaps promised him retirement work to keep him busy deep down they know he is a very very corrupt thieving chap.
Only a ***** will congratulate Ala Bee as a **** will always be a deluded ****

    • Aaashiiiii chibaba!!!!!!!!!!! Chikubaba mwandi…..chakudya baddi!!!!! At least AlaB is coherent. AlaB well done and plz make us proud. Maxwell chamunyokola!!!!!!!!!!

    • Dullness in some people is hereditary and any attempts to reason with them will not yield anything. Maxwell uli chikopo sana mwaiche!

    • Foolery must be contagious how can someone come here and claim to reason when he has placed himself on some lofty pedestal. How dare you call me mwaiche…

  8. @Sikiriti

RD is doing a good work? Why did RB not do the same with Chimba when he was in power? Was he drunk with power?

The truth is, his lawyer, Amsterdam, is behind all these RB’s engagements. I wish you could read between the lines. There is enough evidence adduced from contractors, business men and other witnesses who have already been interviewed by ACC about how RB and his sons turned State House as a contract agency office.

    • Yes he was drunk with power but what did the Zambian people do to him? If you understand this simple fact then you will understand that the party you are so asphyxiated with is heading for disaster. For your information, Amsterdam has nothing to do with RB’s appointment to lead an observation team in Kenya. He was appointed by the Jimmy Carter centre observation group. Yes he may have turned state house into a contract agency office which is far better than turning it into a morgue!

    • Please please dont mind this chap @Sikiriti here he crawled from under an ancient fossil rock today and climbed on his high horse and comes to lecture us with his drivelling self soothing posts. How dare you…

  9. USELESS KENYANS. U THINK WEN WE SAY THE CHAP IS CORRUPT AND WE SAW UNPRECEDENTED INFLAMATERY LANGUAGE EVER HEAD IN ZAMBIA PEPETUATED BY THIS DEMAGOGUE U THINK WE LIE? HE IS THE SAME ***** THAT IS TELLING HIS LAWYERS TO INSULT WELL MEANING ZAMBIANS.

    • Well meaning zambians don’t use contradicting & insulting language calling another country “useless kenyans”. Hypocrisy of the highest order.

  10. Bwezani Banda again doing us proud with his rational approach and great integrity.Fly that zambian to greater admiration from kenyans who appreciate level headed approach unlike unresonable zambian kaponyas. Our headstrong kaponyas will never see sense since their aim is prevarication and hatred without a shred of evidence adduced against you.

    • ^^^You were very very proud of this Ala Bee chap and his vile thieving sticky fingered sons when they were raping our beautiful country in broad daylight 3 years ago. Rational approach to plundering the coffers, what evidence do you need; how do you think those chaps can afford to pay that blood sucker Amsterdam’s legal bill you think that chap is cheap and he is doing pro bono legal work. You trustful ****. You benefactors of the old vile corrupt regime. You shameless feeble *****

    • This Maxwell chap is entirely made of profane and a very hateful evil spirit. Not one posting free of profanity, hate, bitterness and heart chilling cold instinct.

  11. On the Day of judgement, no global trotting, it will be merely facing fair and just judgement, for looting the Nation’s resources. No hiring of international lawyers. God himself the almighty will be the international Lawyer.

    • Go to the Police and report him instead of just making insinuations. DDoes it mean that the Police are sleeping on duty seeing that there are so many people with information about AlaB’s thieving? Go to the Police not just blogging, we can’t help you at all. All we are assume is that you are JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. So bakamba ba RB mwasha mwatutukisha kubena Amsterdam mwaya noko kwati muli bantu benebene ? Yama mwaliba nemisango ishabufufuntungu sana.

  13. I was so happy to see the Kenyan presidential candidates take to the podium for a live pre-election debate. We need this in Zambia

  14. Please leave RB alone, he’s a statesman representing Zambia honourably, something his successor will never achieve.

  15. We believe the real issue in the Livingstone Violence is this chap Obvious Mwaliteta. Within two months he is connected to two deaths of PF cadres and in both cases it is Mwaliteta who is pinning the blame on the opposition. Something is strange here. Do you remember last month when his servant was found dead and bare foot by a roadside outside livingstone and this Mwalitate was quick to blame the opposition. Could it be that this recent death of Harrison Chanda was something that Mwaliteta Ochastrated. I think a good private detective needs to be hired by the UPND to get to the bottom of this Saga.

  16. @Enka Rash,u sound the same as this hypocrite who is simply meeting his kind.U are not different from Chanda Chimbwi.Yo conscience must b dead.

  17. Some of the reasoning on this blog makes me wonder whether we truly have an intellectual deficit in Zambia. RB was rejected as president in the last general election because he refused to listen to the people and now that he is no longer the president what benefit will insulting him do to the people out there who are suffering day in day out of mealie meal, water and power shortages in the country. If you are so convinced he is a thief why don’t you arrest him then? Send out an international warrant to arrest him and I’m sure the international community will be more than happy to hand him over. If you have nothing better to do, I suggest you educate yourselves rather than showing your shallowness here. Some of the reasoning here is so embarrassing it’s unbelievable.

  18. Not one piece of concrete, actionable evidence ever produced against the Banda’s and authorities in other countries remain unmoved to take action bcoz they can see thru the lies and hatred against RB’s family.Interpol,S.A police and others are not guided by bias, hatred and venom unlike some zambians who manufacture lies they can’t prove.Zambia is being run on emotions rather than objective criteria and its sad that zed police and kaponyas just play along.

  19. I don’t drop many comments, however i did some searching and wound up here Zambia : RB asked to advise Kenyan political leaders not to issue inflamatory statements. And I actually do have 2 questions for you if it’s allright. Is it just me or does it look like a few of these remarks look like they are written by brain dead individuals? 😛 And, if you are writing on other online social sites, I would like to follow anything fresh you have to post. Could you make a list of the complete urls of all your shared sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
