Zanaco Tumble at Home

Share

Zanaco’s stay in the Caf Champions League is looking very bleak after losing 1-0 at home to Orlando Pirates.

The Zambian champions were poor throughout and made a modest Pirates look very good.
Furthermore, two of Zanaco’s three Zambia call-ups were poor throughout right in front of Herve Renard who was in the stands.

Defender Fackson Kapumbu and the highly-rated Roderick Kabwe both failed to reach the bar set on the day by compatriot Collins Mbesuma.

Even ex-Pirates striker Davies Mwape showed more hunger than Kabwe against his old club throughout the game.

Meanwhile, Pirates secured their vital away win thanks to a 5th minute header from Ndumiso Mabena off a Daine Klate corner.

A draw in Soweto in a fortnight’s time will suffice for Pirates to advance to the second round of the Champions League.

Winner will play either TP Mazembe or Mochudi Centre Chiefs in the pre-group stage first leg on April 20.

Mazembe also won 1-0 in Gaborone today to setup a prospective big clash against Pirates next month.

  1. Learn from earlier mistakes and butcher them like Barcelona did, they were 2-0 after first leg. Die a little in the final encounter. go go bankers 🙂

  2. Club football in Zambia is embarrassingly awful as evident by the tactlessness performance of the Zambian league champions ZANACO and it is in serious need of investment by all stakeholders. We need a road map as I don’t see our clubs performing miracles in CAF Champions League. When we say that FAZ should not camp in RSA but instead replicate those selfsame RSA facilities and staff right there in Zambia for our clubs to benefit. This is rocket science to the incompetent empty suits in Football House.

  3. ZANACO they were busy watching the Collins Mbesuma & his friends. Am sure even Keegan Mumba couldn’t believe he was shaking hands with Orlando Pirates coach. Good for Zanaco players, at-least they got autograph on their boots after the match.

  4. When you win an international tournament like the AFCON that glory has to trickle down to the grass roots and that’s where we have lamentably FAILED…only when we stop hero-worshipping and tackle issues will we move forward!!

  5. ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL IS ON A SERIOUS FREE FALL.THE CURRENT CROP OF STRIKERS ARE DUNDER HEADS.THEY CAN’T THINK,THEY THINK SCORING IS JUST CHIPANTE PANTE,I WATCHED ZANACO/ORLANDO PIRATES YESTERDAY THEN NAPSA/ GREEN BUFFALOES TODAY.YANGU AMAKULA YABANTU.TWO GAMES AND I CAN’T SEE ANY GOALS SCORED.SO HOW ARE WE TO QUALIFY FOR BRAZIL IF WE DON’T HAVE QUALITY STRIKERS?THE TRUTH BE TOLD.GHANA ARE THE FAVOURITES TO GO TO THE LAST STAGE OF WORLD CUP QUALIFICATION.
