Zambia’s First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda today celebrated his 89th birthday.

Dr Kaunda, who was born on April 28, 1924, is remembered for his heroic role in liberating Zambia from British colonial rule in 1964.

Dr Kaunda ruled the country from the time of independence to 1991 when UNIP was voted out of office.

Dr Kaunda was this evening expected to be honoured by the International Conference for Police and Law Enforcement Executives during a gala dinner held at the Mulungushi International Conference
Center.

Meanwhile, a blind patriot has saluted former first publican president Dr Kenneth Kaunda on his 89th birthday for creating opportunities for the blind during his tenure office.

Elijah Ngwale said the blind will forever hold Dr Kaunda in high esteem for up lifting their plight.

He told Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) that Dr Kaunda’s government was all-inclusive as the blind were given the opportunity to serve in government.

Mr. Ngwale said Dr Kaunda is the only head of state who had the blind to his heart evidence by the elected blind members of parliament he appointed to serve in his cabinet.

He cited Kalunga Koloweka and Lazarus Tembo as some of the blind people Dr Kaunda appointed to work in government.

Mr. Ngwale said it is only right for the blind person to wish well the former first republican president continued health.

He said the blind persons have a lot to be thankful for to Dr Kaunda because of the programmes he initiated for the blind so as to empower them.

The outspoken patriot noted that Dr Kaunda was a liberator of the blind through various programmes he put in place to empower the blind.

Mr. Ngwale has since appealed to government to emulate Dr Kaunda by creating opportunities for the blind.

He complained that currently the country has no programme for the blind a situation he described as worrisome.

The first Republican President has turned 89 years if age today.

  1. Wishing you a very Happy birthday K.K .our founding father of the nation .Ma you god bless you a good healthy life for another thousand years.

  2. Happy Birthday Super Ken…We love you, and bless you.
Thank you for the wonderful inheritance you contributed in providing for all of us Zambians..the inheritance of Freedom in our nation, human dignity, removal of overt/open colonialism, restoration of our African dignity, and much more. God bless you our Statesman.

  3. many more happy returns our dear old man. it is my earnest wish that the almighty God will grant you the wisdom to begin behaving like the old man you are and not like the divisive figure and PF cadre you have shamelessly been since president Michael sata pulled your 69-year-old son Panji from the depths of abject poverty and employed your daughter Musata to work in your office on government payroll. My prayer is that at age 89, you will reflect and ask yourself why Nelson Mandela, who is only six years old than you commands more respect worldwide than you. Or indeed why much younger retired leaders like Thabo Mbeki deserve more adulation than you. At 89, you are expected to provide wisdom to president sata and not to rejoice when the government sidelines former president rupiah Banda and accords you preferential treatment. The title of ‘father of the nation’ is earned and not thrust upon oneself for selfish reasons. My other appeal to you is this 89th birthday anniversary should accord you an opportunity to meditate on the importance of repentance and forgiveness. Please, please, bashikulu, before you cross to the other side to join Frederick chiluba and Levy Mwanawasa, kindly forgive bashi Castro and desist from continuing to hate the man even in death, simply because he is the one who curtailed your near-three-decade stranglehold on power. Try, for once, to be a genuine role model and not a PF vuvuzela. Otherwise, happy birthday bashi Panji!!

  4. Happy birthday to you sir. Please enjoy your remaining few years peacefully by not engaging in politics to avoid getting verbally abused by those opposed to your association with the PF.

  5. KK is a stupid ***** who takes Zambians for granted. The country is better off without him and his family.
