Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has rated the ended national team trials as very good.
162 players from all the ten provinces last week converged in Lusaka to fight for places in coach Herve Renard’s team for the South Africa 2014 CHAN qualifiers and the 2013 COSAFA Cup in July.
Kambwili said the conducting of national trials was a directive from his ministry.
” That was very good. That’s what we have directed FAZ and the technical bench that they must go out to identify talent,” he said.
“The trials shows that FAZ and the technical bench are responding positively to government’s directive,” Kambwili added.
Some of the trialists were part of the Zambia squad that beat Zimbambwe 2-0 in last Sunday’s friendly staged to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1993 Gabon Air Disaster.
I wonder who was footing the bill for such a pointless show!!
Well, well, well, “Pointless show” ka! Strangely, you are the very people who do not want to see the same players representing Zambia over and over. You are the same knuckleheads who would be saying Renard, FAZ and Kalusha only favour certain/same players always. Now they go country wide to find the best talent Zambia can offer and it is a “pointless show” to you. How fickle are you guys gonna get?
Look, FAZ has a budget which includes soccer/talent development, and I am sure this exercise was well within its budget. If not, well the ministry of Sports surely can afford an exercise like this given the importance of sports (soccer in particular) in our society.
Some people are so gullible are really telling me that you can assess 162 players in 4 days…do you know how long it takes to assess even one player?

And imwe ba Jay Jay, you think in a box. That is a starting point. At least FAZ has a list of names and locations of possible replacement from around the country. Unless you are as dull as you sound. If you were a teacher and we gave you a class to handle in four days, surely you are telling me you will not be able to come up with a list of some hopeful pupils? You are hopeless.
A teacher who can teach pupils in four days is not teaching them he/she is just handing them exam leakages.
There is a reason why clubs employ football scouts!
We really miss Kabwili, I think Ministry of Football is too small for him. Give him something like Community development of ministry of roads.
I salute you also Hon.Kambwili and everyone that is involved in this exercise as it is the only way we can create serious competition amongst players and therefore be able to utilize the best talent our nation has.
