Central Province Minister Hon. Phillip Kosamu(second from right), PF Provincial Chairperson Benson Chali(right) welcome MMD MP who resigned to join PF

Another By-Elections looms Mkushi North where MMD Member of Parliament, Mutale Musonda anounced his resignation to join the ruling Patriotic Front (PF)

Speaking shortly after his defection today, Mr Musonda said he has decided to defect to the ruling PF because MMD is a dead party.

Mr Musonda said no matter how good a person is it is impossible to score in a losing team.

He said he wants to work with the PF government because it has shown commitment in as far as the development of this country is concerned.

And welcoming the defectors, Central Province Minister, Philip Kosamu said the continuous defections by members of the opposition are not being engineered by the PF government.

Mr Kosamu said the defections are as a result of poor leadership by the opposition leaders and good leadership in the party in government.

He said people should not be deceived by malicious people like Father Frank Bwalya whose main aim is to frustrate the efforts of government by spreading lies to Zambians.

He said the PF government has only been in power for 20 months and, already, has scored a lot of successes in as far as development is concerned.

Mr Kosamu cited improvements in the Fertilizer Support Programme (FSP) and that more efforts are being made to ensure that every farmer gets his package before the farming season.

And the Deputy Minister of Health, Christopher Mulenga, has distanced the ruling PF from inciting defections saying PF has nothing to do with the on-going defections in the country.

Mr Mulenga said government is aware that people, including the opposition are complaining over the continued defections by the opposition MPs but that there is nothing it can do to curb this.

He said this is because Zambia is a democratic state and as such, the PF government although in power cannot hinder people from joining political parties of their choice.

He said the tenets of democracy are very clear as everyone is at liberty to belong to any political party that makes sense to them.

Mr Musonda also wondered why it is always an issue for people when a defection is in the favour of the ruling PF.

He said it is high time people appreciated the good policies of PF rather than implicating them in the defections.

He further advised other MPs who are still in the opposition to consider joining the PF in order to ensure development in the country.

Mr Musonda said the opposition has nothing much to offer the Zambians because most of the opposition leaders have worked in previous governments before but still failed to deliver development to Zambians.

About 300 PF members including Kapiri-Mposhi MP, Eddie Musonda, Bwacha MP, Sydney Mushanga and Kabwe Central MP, James Kapyanga witnessed the defections.

  1. Well , why not just dissolve Parliament so we do it in one shot and done ans over with these By-Elections distracting us from developing the country, and while you are at it make sure you apply the new constitution where seats don’t belong to individual MPs but the party. This is really nonsense and it has to be stopped

    • @ observer: my thoughts too.
These chaotic by-elections are a costly drain on the treasury.

The president can dissolve parliament and call for early elections so that people can give the PF govt or a new party a fresh mandate.

We just cant afford to finance this illogical circus

    • You are right dear.Desolving parliament we go for general elections would be the most best means. Then we can see who is who.

    • if the presido doesn’t want to dissolve Parliament, Then Zambian Citizens should conduct a partition to dissolve Parliament and call for fresh general elections within 90 days. How many signatures are required.

  2. Go and hang yourselves,i mean UPND and MMD camps.its not PF’s problem but nature.there is confusion in MMD thats why you see this EXODUS.chase Nevers Mumba before its too late. timely advise from NOTORIOUS

    • @notorious
check the name of that flag under which you posting your `timely advise/advice` from…
i would have respected you if it was a zambian flag, then you would have had first hand experience of the poverty temperature on the ground.. so then you could not only see but also feel the effect of stupid wasting of money on stupid by elections

  3. If the electorate in those areas where educated, they wudnt vote these MPs back in power, unfortunately…

  4. the leader in MMD is not promising that is why you see this massive EXODUS. change the leadership in MDD and everything will calm down

  5. Wina azalila. As things stand, u ,the crying babies, u have to be strong .These mps are old enough and pf has no mandate to stop them. Not untill a law is in force. As it is, the animal called democracy will continue to prevail.ke,ke,ki,ki,ke …..

    • The law is the only key, democracy can be very good but if not well governed it can be misused indeed. The MMD brought about the saying of vote for the ruling party members and you will see development in your area and now it has turned against them!

  6. This is how we’ve lost the last 48yrs.Another 48yrs of independence we’ll be wondering how we’ve wasted all that time and no devlopment. Those PF cadres endorsing this are fo0ls for endorsing their own poverty bcoz Sata only thinks politics 24/7.

  7. This needs to stop. Twanaka. Zambian politics at its best. Can some one explain why an opposition member of parliament would choose to join the government side? They get paid the same salary regardless of party. I will tell why they do it. Our country is cursed with selfish heartless politicians who don’t give a damn about the country. They are only thinking of themselves. Otherwise what logic reasons do they have for joining the government side. This needs to stop. When a member of parliament defects to join lets say the labour party(UK) a by election is not called. He just moves to the other side of the house. These by elections are a waste money. They need sort this stuff out. Just dissolve parliament.

  8. No political principles unchored in ideologies. The only anchor is where bread is. Even HH supporters only see crumbs that they can get from him. Nevers has no much crumbs to give. The only party with residual crumbs for many folks and MPs is the PF. Its politics of poverty not the politics of ideolgies we know in say USA, UK, etc where people normally stick to their party for life. Ours is nonaligned and anyone can swing between and among parties. Its our culture of politics supported by our constitution. Do not blame PF over resignations and joining of rulling PF. Old Munkombwe said it and thats reality foir now. Forward with PF, after all PF is bringing the development that we talk about.

  9. Osmore #9, spot on. It is the nature of human beings to seek a loophole that they will capitalize on to further their ends. The PF has also cleverly adopted a policy of putting up the same candidate who defects because there is no restriction on that either… If the population is not pleased with this it is time to revisit the laws governing defections.

  10. Iam not suprised with these mass defections.African politicians spend most of their tym strategising on how 2 rip off their nation.fellow bloggers the truth is that god left africa a long tym ago.mark my words whoever comes it2 power will only b occupied with appeasing friends, relatives and thoz near 2 the corridors of power.

  11. DO NOT BLAME THESE MPS. IT IS THE WAY WE PLAY OUR POLITICAL GAMES HERE IN ZAMBIA. OF COURSE THIS IS UNFORTUNATE. US THE VOTERS, THE OPPOSITION AND THE RULING PARTY MUST BE BLAMED. WE HAVE AN OPPOSITION WHICH IS BENT ON TRYING TO MAKE PF FAIL. PRESIDENTIAL SPEECHES ARE TORN ON THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE, MIDDLE FINGERS RAISED AGAINST THE RULING PARTY WITH IMPUNITY. THE OPPOSITION MPS KEEP WALKING OUT OF PARLIAMENT AT EVERY SLIGHTEST DISAGREEMENT. THE VOTERS ALSO KEEP VOTING THE DEFECTORS BACK INTO THE SAME CONSTITUENCES. THE PEOPLE WHO ARE WIDELY CONDEMNING THE BY ELECTIONE ARE STILL TAKING PART THEREBY APPROVING OF THE SAME. AND YOU THINK THE PF WILL BE SO DULL AS TO SEE MPS WALKING OUT LIKE THAT? OK ITS THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO WALK OUT. BUT SO ARE THE BY ELECTIONS.

  12. Is this not the guy who insulted Sata at one point ? Anyway it was expected i remember he once boasted that abena sata nabena Kabimba banandi after he just won the seat on a MMD ticket.

  13. THIS (DEMOCRACY/ ELECTIONS) IS WHAT ZAMBIANS FREELY CHOSE IN 1992! WE MUST APPRECIATE THAT IT COMES WITH A COST WHICH MUST BE MET. WHAT IS THE YAPPING ABOUT??? WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IN CASES OF DEATH, RESIGNATION, NULLIFICATION OF A SEAT OF AN MP???

ON THE OTHER HAND, WHICH NORMAL PERSON WOULD WANT TO REMAIN IN MMD, LED BY AN OPPORTUNIST CALLED ‘PASTOR’ NEVERS MUMBA. THIS MAN CAN DO ANYTHING FOR CASH! HE CAN EVEN SELL HIS WIFE, FAMILY OR TRIBE TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. SHAME! MMD DIED THE MOMENT IT CHOSE THIS FAILURE OVER A VIBRANT LEADER (UNCLE FELIX MUTATI). WHAT DO OTHERS THINK..?

  14. The truth of the matter o those resigning to join PF know that the stinking supreme court will rule in favour of the stinking PF hence the resignation.Nothing PF can offer apart from buying the stupid MPs.

  15. We have heard from caritas Zambia NOT to vote back these fake MPs. They are wasting our valuable resources. Because of them money will never be in our pockets.

  16. FELLOW CITIZENS, WE have TO INTERVENE, IF THE PF GOVERNMENT THINKS THIS IS CORRECT. THERE IS NO WAYS WE CAN HAVE SUCH DEFECTION, IT IS EXPENSIVE AND AFFECTS POOR ZAMBIANS, AS WELL THEN LETS HAVE FRESH ELECTIONS IF THE AIM IS TO HAVE A ONE PARTY STATE. IT IS WRONG IF OUR PRESIDENT IS WATCHING AND HAPPY WITH WHATS HAPPENING. THIS NONSENSE HAS TO BE STOPPED.

  17. The following political parties are, particularly, encouraged to participate in the up-coming by-elections:
    > Heritage Party of Godfrey Miyanda
    >MMD of Nevers Mumba
    >NAREP of Elias Chipimo
    >ABZ of Frank Bwalya
    >UPND of Hikainde Hichilema
    Action speaks louder, gentlemen.

  18. Some bloggers behave as if they don’t understand Zambian politics…at one fora, voters were likened to Bakaidi and women to Vinkubala(caterpillar) and still voted for the same Pathetic Fools.PF is there to destroy this country,Bembas teamed together are bad news, sorry for sounding more tribal but thats the truth anyway…

  19. More dinosaurs appointed into office – good.
This will ensure that Zambia will be extinct for sure.

Can old timers such as these think and plan for our future?

I don’t think so, they are here to enrich themselves and secure a pension.

Wake up my people. Wake up.

  20. These by elections have crippled govt functions. Most ministries and departments(especially at provincial level) last got funding in nov2012.If by elections have been funded, then why havent they done the same for ministries?Civil servants havent bin paid their settling in allowances for many yrs and this makes them feel demotivated.Itstime PF pulled up its socks and begins to fund the civil service seriously.by elections for now can be put on halt!

  21. All these defectors have issues with the court and personal issues with Sata that is why they are thinking by joining PF they will be protected. They are wasting time because will not be in office forever. 2016 is just very near.

  22. Am worried same people you called thief’s are now your Favorite and you are giving them ministerial post i can not see the direction of PF government maybe you want to be taught how to be stealing our money umulandu taubola
