FIRST Lady Dr Christine Kaseba has appealed to the Ministry of Health to acquire equipment that can be used to treat severe ailments and injuries because Zambia has qualified personnel that can handle such cases.

The First Lady was speaking at State House in Lusaka yesterday after welcoming one of her aides Aaron Sikalumbi who was involved in road traffic accident in April on the Ndola – Kitwe duo carriage way and has since been able to walk after undergoing a three month treatment at Nkana Hospital in Kitwe.

Dr Kaseba said medical doctors in Zambia have proved that they can deal with any case provided the right equipment is made available.

“People were saying let’s take the officer for specialist treatment in South Africa but the doctors here have proved that we don’t need to go to South Africa because our doctors here can do the work,” she said.

Aaron Sikalumbi was in the First Lady’s advance party that was travelling to Kitwe for the funeral of her auntie Ruth Gondwe, when the car they were traveling in careered off the road and left him with serious injuries including a dislocated spine while his colleague Superintendent Erecta Hamwata died on the spot.

Speaking at the same function Mopani Copper Mines (MC) Chief Executive Officer Danny Callow said he was happy that the mine hospital was able to give someone hope of walking again and thanked the doctors that worked tirelessly during the three months that Mr Sikalumbi was admitted
at the facility.

And Deputy Inspector General of Police Solomon Jere thanked MCM formaking his officer walk again after the fatal accident.
