The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has released K 530,000 as first allocation to pay farmers in Kabompo district in North-Western province who supplied maize to the agency.
Kabompo District Commissioner Dennis Kanyankula said so far FRA has bought 60,000 x 50 Kg bags of out the 105,000 x 50 Kg bags of white maize targeted in the district.
Mr Kanyankula disclosed the development to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Kabompo Kabompo district today.
He explained that the released funds has cheered peasant farmers in the district who supplied to the agency as this was the first time ever that farmers have received their money early.
Mr Kanyankula further explained that the development has encouraged farmers to continue selling their produce to the agency and are now avoiding selling to briefcase maize buyers that have invaded the district.

Farmers should just be paid off after selling their produce. To begin to announce tha thousands of kwacha has been released for farmers is chep politiking. Just pay end of story.
