SuperSport register Clifford as non-foreign player

Share

South Africa based Zambia winger Clifford Mulenga is set to start playing for SuperSport United after being granted his South African residence.

Mulenga is yet to play for SuperSport this season due to his wait for permanent residence card to come through in South Africa.

According to Soccer Laduma, the club wants to register him as a non-foreigner rather than use up a spot in their foreign quota.

A foreign player is eligible to be registered as a non-foreigner after playing for more than five years in South Africa.

Mulenga, 26, joined SuperSport in 2012 from Bloemfontein Celtic last year.

Meanwhile, Mulenga has not played for Chipolopolo since January 2012 when coach Herve Renard hounded him out of the squad during last year’s Africa Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

  1. Shame on FAZ! If South Africa can see the talent in him what more zambia. I have watched hIm on several occasions the lad is good.

    • Think before you open your mouth as this has got nothing to do with football. You can apply for permanent residence in SA after 5 years of your stay whether you play footbll or not. Once you apply for permanent residence your citizenship does not change. He cannot play for Bafanabafana because he is not yet a citizen of SA. Clifford is below par and forget talking about him and concentrate on supporting the players we have at the moment who have brought the Africa cup. Nelson mandela cup and Cosafa. What more do you want to be opening your mouth so carelessly. Give thanks where it is due. The only cup remaining now is world cup.

  2. He is not citizen yet, but I hope and wish Clifford lucky so he can play for South Africa before he is 30 yrs old.

    • Sorry! He can’t play for any other national football team apart from Zambia, owing to his having featured for Zambia in the past. That’s per FIFA rules and regulations.

    • NO HE CANT PLAY FOR SOUTH AFRICA….NOT EVEN ZAMBIA NOW.,,FIFA RULES ARE THAT ONCE U PLAYED FOR ANOTHER COUNTRY AT NORMAL NATIONAL LEVEL(NOT UNDER 17 ETC),U WILL NEVER PLAY FOR ANOTHER COUNTRY.
SO HE WILL ONLY BE PLAYING FOR THE CLUBS
GOOD LUCKY….ZAMBIA STILL HAS A LOT OF TALENT…

  3. Lets be real this has nothing to do with football, It’s easier in any country to have a residence permit, this has many advantages to the applicant especially if one wants to invest. Back to football, Cliford used to be good then, but his performance currently is average and I think the current plays we have like mukuka mulenga, they are much better.

  4. We have lost a country man due to poor man management by the PE teacher and the empty suits at Football House. We can only wish him luck and hopes that he makes it in the first 11 of bafana bafana at least he will be appreciated there.

  5. Apparently he can’t play for another country as he has already represented Zambia more than once at international level as per FIFA guide lines; Statue Article 17: Acquisition of a new nationality, and amended Article 18 of the Regulations Governing the Application of the FIFA Statutes. The rule states that any player who is over the age 21 and has played for the full national team is barred from switching nations.

    • You are right jay jay. i wanted the England shirt, they could do with my robust talent though Southampton are a disappointment with this bench thingy. i still love you chipolopolo

  6. Nomba ba nostrademus, mulefwaya ukula tubepa? Jay jay alifye bwino. ubufi bwachilamo pa Zed. chibuku yali tonaula.

  7. Koma iwe nostradamus niwe osokonezeka. Ha ha ha! Ati ifi ma facts! Sinizasiyo seka. However what all the knowitall vultures above dont know because they are blinded by their anti-FAZ stance, is that Mulenga has not become a south african . He is just a permanent resident like iam a British resident but I am still a Zedian
