Government has accused Kitwe City Town clerk and his staff of unprofessionalism in the allocation of land in the district.

Copperbelt minister Mwenya Musenge says the council was not realizing money from the sale of plots in the district as the money accrued from the sale of land was going into individuals’ pockets.

Mr. Musenge said this has resulted in the council failing to effectively deliver services to the public.

ZANIS reports that the minister said this in Kitwe yesterday on Your Anthem Radio station on a programme dubbed ‘Face to Face’.

Mr Musenge said the councilors have also been misled by the council staff on the allocation of land which has resulted into massive illegal allocation of plots by councilors.
He challenged the council staff to guide the councilors on the rightful procedure of acquiring plots so that the local authority can also benefit from the sale of plots.

The Copperbelt Minister cited Kitwe as the waste council in terms of illegal allocation of plots followed by Chingola.

And Mr Musenge has disclosed that the Kitwe – Chingola Dual Carriage way will be completed by the end of next year.

The Copperbelt Minister stated that the works of the road has already started and were progressing well.

Meanwhile Mr Musenge has also disclosed that the construction of Mufuchani Bridge, across Kafue River in Kitwe will soon commerce.

He said the construction of the houses where the people who will be re-located from the bridge site to pave way for the construction of the bridge are almost complete.

He further reiterated government’s commitment to the rehabilitation and upgrading of roads both in the urban and rural parts of the Copperbelt.

    • “Mr Musenge said the councilors have also been misled by the council staff on the allocation of land which has resulted into massive illegal allocation of plots by councilors.“

How possible is that?.. this minister does know what he is doing! as a minister you donot rush to the media and make statements,, you investage get first, get real facts and bring in ACC ,, by the time those statements come out solid information/data on malpractice and corruption is on the table!
I see this whole issue going nowhere

  1. Mr Musenge, plots should not be about the council benefitting from them, but about people accessing land legally, town planning and order in the administration of land. Whether the council benefits is irrelevant. The duties of the council is to provide a service, and in doing that find ways of raising revenue which may not necessarily be from plots. Councils should think of leasing out parking space to agents to collect parking fees for them, introduce proper systems in markets and bus stations, not just talking about plots. Infact councils should be detached from the administration of land.

  2. @ Ftj its throw not through.

Comng to wat Musenge has said. Nifilya ati tabalemilishamo bwana abaice nowander ur outburst otherwise nganifimbifye. U are jst busy condeming without giving solutions. Bushe is it the calibre of people who interview you nangu mungulufye wama politicians imwe? Tired of this kind of politics. We need solutions to problems fools!

  3. Blame game again. PF has failed to manage. Concillor Kasusu of PF said it all. The sooner the the president stop hiding in state house the better for this country. He has no support on. His leutenant who are suppose to help are busy fighting each other. PF is the most corrupt party i the history of zambia.

  4. Mr. Musenge is right on his statement that Kitwe is the worst and most confused council in the country. In fact it is the ugliest town in terms of infrastructure development. I wonder what institutions trained these town planners and other council workers. Al they are interested in is getting money from the sale of plots.

Now, what Mr. Musenge need to do is to ask the ACC to start investigations and make arrests of the culprits. the Town Clerk must be suspended.

  5. this does not surprise me if its true because where on earth do people go for interviews for plots and four years later one is still waiting for plots to be demarcated? what does it take for people who are actually paid to do that job to be efficient?

  6. As MP for Chimwemwe, which is in Kitwe Mwenya Musenge is equally a Councillor in Kitwe. Essentially he is telling us that he got a Plot in Kitwe dubiously becoz management at KCC is corrupt.

Mwenya – Even if you built a miserable house on the corruptly gotten Land, we the people will claim it back and demolish whatever will be there. Don’t say you weren’t told.

  7. Not only Kitwe, Most Council workers in Zambia have benefited from sale of Plots Even Lusaka. They even Block plots in their names and resale for Higher Price. It’s part of their corrupt ways of Life. Don’t be surprised Mr. Minister. Tell us what the Government will do to stop this.
