Peter Makembo has opposed Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili’s call on FAZ to overhaul the Zambia Under-20 bench led by coach Oswald Mutapa.
Kambwili’s comment came after the junior team failed to defend the COSAFA Youth Championships in Lesotho earlier in December.
Makembo said FAZ should maintain the Under-20 bench and its players.
“I do not agree with the minister when he says we should overhaul the under-20 team and coaches,”he said.
“FAZ should maintain the players and coaches as they need time,” Makembo said.
“The under-20 should be given a chance just like the senior team.”
The team was eliminated in the first round after one defeat, a draw plus a win.
Yes bwana we are behind you. This Kambwili never call for the body of senior team coach despite of registering a number of loses. Give Mutapa time to reorganise his players.
Yes, let’s keep both players and the bench; only minor adjustments to the squad are required. What needs to be overhauled here are the recruitment, preparations, and management methods and systems of the under age and women teams. We need long term plans not these short sighted and off the head decisions we are witnessing. We desperately need under age and women leagues put in place. For a start even short season leagues, say 3 to 5 months, would be better than nothing because they would give us a wider selection base. We need to start somewhere. I do understand it will be difficult but it won’t be impossible. Moreover, that’s why we have people in FAZ and the Ministry of sport. Remember, Rome was not built in a day. Peter Makembo is a clown who brings embarrassment to the football supporters union in the country, I must mention that all supporters that accompanied the chan team to Zimbabwe will confirm what a clown makembo is. Hon kambiwi is right to push for an over haul for the junior under 20 national team and pave way for result driven coaches and technical bench.Mutapa has been accorded all the time and resources with these boys from under 17 through to the under 20,but sadly he shows no indication of improvement.
