HUNDREDS of Luanshya residents yesterday flocked to Ndelela Basic School in Mikomfwa Township to receive medical attention from the mobile hospital that was situated there.

One of the residents on his way to the school said he was excited to see specialists for his health problems.

Jonas Kabwe, 67, of Mikomfwa Township said it was difficult for him to go to hospitals that had specialists because they were all out of Luanshya and so he was taking the opportunity availed by the mobile hospital.

The mobile hospital services started yesterday at the school and would go on until Tuesday next week.

By 13:00 hours yesterday, 300 people had already visited the mobile hospital.

Mobile health services coordinator Alex Makupe said the target for the day was 400 while between 2,000 to 2,500 people were expected to be attended to by Tuesday.

Dr Makupe said the mobile hospital was offering all services offered in a hospital like surgical services, operations, eye, dental and ear services.

Kidney and liver investigations, blood tests on HIV and Syphilis, x-rays and abdominal scans were also been undertaken at the hospital.

Dr Makupe said the mobile hospital had various specialists.

“The staff here is drawn from across the Copperbelt Province like Roan, Ronald Ross, Luanshya, and Ibenga hospitals with the bulk coming from Ndola Central Hospital,” he said.

Dr Makupe said people preferred the mobile hospitals because they were closer to them and quicker because once a problem was diagnosed, an operation could take place immediately.

One of the beneficiaries Batista Katunasa said she was happy that the mobile hospital was efficient.
