The Kitwe Magistrate Court has set 10th October, 2014 as date for commencement of trial in a matter Former Kitwe Mayor Divo Katete has been charged with defilement.
And the Magistrate Court has granted Katete a K 15,000 Bail after he pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Particulars of the offence are that Divo Katete 41, of House number 5, 16th street, Nkana East in Kitwe on unknown date but in the month of December, 2013 in Kitwe had unlawful Carnal Knowledge of a girl under the age of 16.
Katete has been charged with an offence of defilement of a child contrary to section 138 (1) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 as amended by Act number 15 of 2005 and Act Number 2 of 2011 of the Laws of Zambia.
Appearing for plea before Kitwe Principal Resident Magistrate Ikechukwu Iduma, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
However, Defence lawyer Victor Michelo applied for bail to which the state prosecutor argued on assumptions that the accused was going to temper with the evidence knowing too well that the two parties are related.
But the Defence Lawyer later assured that the accused will not in any way interfere with the evidence stating that two parties are in different districts which is Mufulira and Kitwe district respectively.
And In his ruling Kitwe Principal Resident Magistrate Ikechukwu Iduma granted the accused a K 15, 000 bail with two working sureties and set 10th October 2014 as trial date.

Mushota, you got it wrong. Divo Katete is lamba from Chief Mushili’s area. he’s not Tonga. Child abuse is abominable whatever tribe perpertrates it. The abused live to hate the other gender for life. I had a female workmate apparently was abused by her father at the age of 9. The lady is now 38 but has never dated again. she’s always scared of men. so bakatete been a civic leader should ve restrianed yoself:-)from the temptation of these young girls. Even under extreme provocation or inducement. now:-)see:-)the shame you ve brought yoself & family in. Hope u settle the issue outside court since u are related to the girl’s family. But you must change and be an ambassdor for child abuse.
