The Zambia Police Service has banned public protests during the period of national mourning.

Police Acting Spokesperson Esther Katongo says Police will therefore clampdown on any people attempting to stage protests during the period of national mourning.

Ms. Katongo notes that protests, particularly during the national mourning period, has the potential to compromise the peace in nation.

And Principle Traffic Officer-In Charge of Road Safety, Yotam Phiri has appealed to motorists to co-operate with traffic officers during the national mourning period.

Mr. Phiri says rehearsals for the burial day have started and certain roads will be closed and motorists should use alternative routes.

The duo was speaking during the Morning Live programme on Tv2.

  1. Since when did demostrations and protests esp PF type become legal. Was the officer in order to they have banned these during the funeral period? These PF thugs would believe that afterr burial of the chief culprrit they are allowed to disturb our peace. POLICE DO THE NEEDFUL.

  2. CONTROLLING MINISTERS! We have seen some Ministers and Deputy Ministers cause apprehension over succession bids. To stop this they should all be seated continuously with the late president’s casket, till burial of the late HE MCS takes place.

  3. Zambia Police, please spare us this drama. do you know the difference between protest and demonstration? if the Zambian law allows for protests then we are in trouble. i have never heard the police give a permit for a protest only for demonstration (i beg to be reminded). so which is which? are you now allowing for protests?

  4. Zambian drunken police are useless and corrupt. Last time i went to report a case i found the front desk officer drunk with banned tujilijili at Emmasdale Police station.

  5. Zambia Police has lamentably failed. Since when in our country did we see cadres carrying pangas in public as it is now. You think during the reign of Wasakaza Ng’uni, one would see such nonsense? It is terribly sad. When we said that the appointment of women police officers in strategic positions would be catastrophic, nobody believed us. Now see what is happening. They are not even innovative to put up things like a panga amnesty so that people can hand in these things. This is the worst I have seen this country in terms of policing

  6. These pangas you are seeing were the main weapons used when 800, 000 people were butchered in Rwanda. The people there were saying bullets were expensive. Please Zambia Police, for once wake up. Go in compounds and do a proper clean up to rid our communities of these pangas. It seems nobody is seeing that we are sitting on a serious time bomb. The PF cadres will be using these shortly as the war in PF rages, innocent citizens will be caught up. Ask the army to assist you on this clean up operation and believe me, you are going to discover a lot of guns too in these compounds.

  7. Thinking of ZP. The who idea is to allow the white man to make unpopular decisions in this same period. If people protest an unpopular decision they get clumped. This is a donchi kubeba. You will put the country in turmoil because even you as Police you are human and a voter. if you a stupid decision you will just be lookin!!!!!!!!!!!!
