Zambia Electoral Alliance calls on PF and MMD to respect their constitutions

Share

The Zambia Electoral Alliance has called on the ruling Patriotic Front and opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy to follow their laid down rules when choosing their respected candidate for the presidential elections.

Speaking at a media briefing ZEA Spokesperson Guess Nyirenda said the PF should not abrogate its own
rules when choosing a candidate to represent them as doing so would be a is recipe for anarchy and violence not only in their party but the country as a whole.

Mr. Nyirenda also called on the former ruling party MMD to ensure that they amicably resolve the issue of who will represent them in the forthcoming presidential elections.

“ZEA is observing and monitoring the political developments in political parties with regards to the succession.

“ZEA is particularly calling upon the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to realize that ignoring their own laid down party rules during their search for the successor to the late President is recipe for anarchy and violence,” Mr. Nyirenda noted.

“ZEA would like to appeal to the MMD to amicably resolve the issue of who contests the Presidential Election. We urge the PF and the MMD to be in conformity with both their guidelines/procedure, party constitution and that of the Republic,” he added.

Mr. Nyirenda further called on stakeholders to ensure that they all play their roles in ensuring that peace and tranquility prevails in the country.
“ZEA would like to take this opportunity to appeal and call upon all stakeholders and citizens in general to ensure that everyone plays their critical role of ensuring that peace and tranquility prevail.”

The Zambia Electoral Alliance (ZEA) is composed of Civil Society Organisations namely: the Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP), the Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP), Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia, Operation Young Vote (OYV), Southern Africa Centre For the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) and Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL).

  1. Can some one post the MMD constitution, the one on their website is not readable. Lifting Dr Mumba in prayers. Why have a convention when it is not automatic that the Party President may not stand for Republican Party during his term, it looks like it is merely for image building targeting those who easily get swayed by external appearances, not good use of funds and there is no difference between them and those parties who do not go for conventions.

    • Theses guys cannot respect their own governing rules, how can we trust them to respect OUR constitution? The health of the president is never a secret, even after the deaths of Mwanawasa and Sata, we still don’t know what killed them?! MMD AND PF HAVE FAILED US IN EVERY SENSE…

  2. While we are showering praises on late Sata for his achievements, we need to also be realistic to his failures.
He is responsible for the clashes going on in the PF because.
    1. He failed to deal with the crises in his party when he was still alive.
    2. He failed to prepare his successor even when he new his health was failing him.

    Typical of all African leaders.

    I rest my case.

    • ECZ is smoking too much chambaaaa these days; these pf buggers can suck my cork left to right and stuff some creamy garlic cream along with some sausages through my bottom then hammer it off like savages attack a piece of nice shiny black bottom; evans mfula at evaduco reporting live from lusaka fish market

  3. A message from Edar Lungu: this is what I will do wen u chose me as President of Zambia. (1). I will make sure that all Ministers become drankards like me, this is an important insetive for my ministers. (2). I will make sure that I arm all PF Kaponyas so that they displine any rude PF Member or indid any opsed Zambian citizen. (3). I will turn State House into State Bear Hall or Kachasu Hall. (4). I will promote arrogance and indiscipline in all govt workers just as I am doing to Dr. Guy Scott. (5). Malawians will be allowed to come to Zambia without paspots. (6). I will appoint three cabinet ministers from my home country Malawi. (7) I will divorce my current wife and marry a young representable one as First Lady. (8). All govt workers will be allowed to drink bear in places of work.

    • @ JJ, acceptable manifesto, shame about spelling mistakes. Personally, I would not drink “bear” juice. I still prefer ice cold beer.

  4. For sure it appears the MMD Presdent is just a figure head. Why hold a national convetion at a great cost to choose a party president who when there is a vacancy in the republican presidency is not allowed to stand ? Strange enough.

    • NO, not as strange as you think. It is not that he is not allowed to stand. Rather that, per party constitution, anyone can challenge him for the nomination. Democracy means survival of the fittest. And MMD, except for what Nevers Mumba wants to turn it into, has always been a democratic party.

  5. Has Edgar Lungu any clue that PF has a constitution and that there is need for law and order in the country? It seems as though he is always acting under the influence of liquor or is being bull-dozed by a Jezebel.

  6. Zambia Electoral Alliance when did you have you own elections to choose your CEO! Just like TIZ you only see wrongs for others but not your own shame!!

  7. Well ZEA, has among its numbers, Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP), you wonder why they are not concentrating on ECZ’s refusal to allow new Voter registration.

Poor voter turn out is not just Apathy, but also disbarred citizens. If I were ZEA I would be commenting on that too.
