The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Zambia Union Conference President, Harrington Akombwa has said that the SDA Church is alarmed by the malicious, regrettable and barbaric allegations made recently at a PF rally in Kabwe that UPND President Hakainde Hichilema is a Satanist.
Dr. Akombwa has told the media in a statement that Mr. Hichilema and his family are part of the SDA fellowship and have not hidden that fact.
Dr. Akombwa said that as a committed congregant, Mr. Hichilema has attended many church functions around the country and has been an unrelenting supporter of many church functions including camp meetings and rallies.
Dr. Akombwa stated that it is a known fact that Mrs Hichilema is a very committed Dorcas Society member.
Dr. Akombwa further said that it is for this reason that the SDA Church finds the allegations made recently that Mr. Hichilema is a Satanist and Mason not only barbaric but offensive and irrational.
He added that unfounded allegations such as these are not only an assault on the development of democracy but also carry the ability to breach the peace that Zambia has become synonymous with.
Dr. Akombwa has since appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), Zambia Police, Acting Chief Justice and other concerned stakeholders to do all in their power to bring all those who are trying to disenfranchise the people by their cheap propaganda and breaching the Electoral Code of conduct to book.
And UPND Lubwa Ward Youth Chairman Chisankama Mudenda has said that UPND feels offended by such remarks and that former Orthodox Church Bishop Edward Chomba should apologize to Mr. Hichilema for such offensive remarks.

From your argument, you might not agree with their doctrine, but that is their doctrine and I personally respect that. Serious SDA’s do no go for work on the Sabbath, they “cease fire” and do not study, they do not take tests/examination on the Sabbath, no weddings and the least goes on. LUSAKA (AFP) – The son of Zambia’s former president Rupiah Banda was arrested Thursday on charges of defaming his father’s successor, his lawyer told AFP.
Andrew Banda was picked up by police at a court, where he was answering unrelated charges of graft in connection with road building contracts.
“He has been charged with the offence of defamation of the president but has been released without bond,” said lawyer Milner Katolo.

Its good to help the sick on Sabbath, feed the hungry and many more charitable works. The bible Exodus 20: 8-11 says keep the Sabbath day and keep it holly for in 6 days God created the heavens and the earth. What holiness is there during campaigns? Like I said, HH and AKOMBWA knows very well about it. As for DR. Akombwa, God will deal with him for using his name in vain. This is very serious matter before GOD.

Some of you may already know this while it may come as a shock to some of you. Many SDAs think the Catholic church is a satanic church and the Pope is the anti-Christ.
My point being that, this whole finger pointing of who is a satanist and who is not is really worth as much as chicken manure.

Foolish ones don’t read the bible says churches should not be involved in politics. Which verse are you basing your arguments on? None in scriptures. Prophets including Jesus Christ talked politics in the bible though they didn’t resign to go politics full time. Clergy must provide guidance to their flock so that they can go the will of God and not man’s. Clergy from God hears from Him and tell the people what to do and what not to. All the prophets of old were political but on the side of God. READ the bible and stop decieving others. SDA’s president has done well to defend his own and if he can’t who can? @CACTUS, Understand this my good brother. There is nothing wrong in prayinf for HH or doing good things on sabbath as Jesus did. We dont know the real truth concerning HH’s satanism story. HH himself knows it better. Now lets assume that he is indeed a satanist, can Jesus or Akombwa defend him? Probably Jesus would even rebuke him. Such things are difficult to know and prove because they are done in secrecy and a spiritual leader should distance himself from speculations. Defending someone on the basis of being a church member without knowing his real life is abuse of GOD’S name. Look the reason your AKOMBWA gave to defend HH, he is our member, he contributes to camp meetings….bla….bla….Any way GOD knows better. Enjoy your festive season my brother. Our churches should not rekindle fires about to go off. Without supporting Bishop Chomba’s remarks I feel SDA is taking the issue personal. They should rather help their member forgive his offenders than to add salt to the woulnd.
Another approach the church must perceive issues is by thinking than one can belong to the real church and still worship idols. We do have satanists, witches etc in genuine churches and its not the duty of churches to clarify such accusations but rather the accused himself. I like the approach taken by HH to sue his accuser who must give evidence or be convicted. Church, we respect you so much. Don’t take the issue personal. My advice.
Ba PF, let’s have a clean campaign even if it’s not plain sailing for you. Let we, the people, choose the next President of Zambia.

As an SDA, I must say I’m deeply disappointed with Akombwa for bringing the name of the church into disrepute in the public domain. Ordinarily, I should have used the ‘normal’ channel of writing to him in person, or indeed, through the normal church channel to register my disapproval, but since he has decided to disregard church protocol, which demands that he seeks opinion and vote from the general membership before he can publish such sensitive, and political statements, I will sadly follow suit and denounce his stance publicly! I therefore, wish to personally distance myself from the position the pastor has taken, and advise him to join politics if he so wishes without dragging the church into the mud! He doesn’t own it!
