Bafana Bafana KO’s Zambia

Share

Zambia kicked off 2015 with a sour defeat after losing 1-0 in their Southern Africa derby away friendly to Bafana Bafana played at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

Bafana scored the winning goal in the 80th minute through substitute Thuso Phala who found the target from close-range to beat Daniel Munyao who had replaced the injured Kennedy Mweene in the 46th minute.

Phala found the target just seven minutes after replacing Mandla Masango.

Zambia’s best chance came in the 75th minute when Zesco striker Jackson Mwanza fired his effort high from close range.

Mwanza came on for Emmanuel Mayuka in the 46th minute.

And Munyao also saved Zambia’s blushes in 62st minute when the Red Arrows goalkeeper deflected defender Anele Ngcongca’s effort over the bar.

Meanwhile the defeat ended Zambia coach Honour Janza’s five-match unbeaten run of three wins and two defeats since losing 2-1 away to Cape Verde on September 10 in a 2015 Africa Cup Group F qualifier.

Zambia lineup: Mweene (Munyau 45), Sunzu (Munthali 55), Nkausu, Kondwani, Sinkala (Sautu 88″),R.Kabwe, Lubambo (Mukuka 68″), Kalaba, Mayuka (J.Mwanza 45″), Singuluma, Chisamba (Chamanga 57″)

    • Just watched the match.
Chamanga, Munthali, Roderick Kabwe and Jackson Mwanza are very useless and should not be in the team. Cant say more.

  2. The coach should be careful, Mayuka is a finished player and does not need to be in the team. Why can’t the coach call Rodger Kola? Even Collins Mbesuma is better than Mayuka. We need a team that score goals!

  8. Preparations or friendlies or Pub or final match. ..Zambia is going NOWHERE as I told those drunk Castle Lite drinking Zombies in Lusaka at that makeshift themed Irish pub you call O’Hogans in Woodlands when I was there on end of year holidays as long as you have corrupt entities in the name of selfish Galu you will always get crumbs and substandard facilities and coaches…. we still don’t have training facilities for our boys at home and we continue sending taxpayers money to RSA; 5 years on..no vision whatsoever just useless greedy FAZ officials.
    Wake up!!

    HUH???

  10. @ Ndobo! We are talking football on this page. Hon Edger C Lungu is a party president and Mr Guy Scott is acting state President. In his capacity ( Scott ) can wish the Zambia National Soccer Team good game.

  11. Zambia well be one of the first team to pack after losing to Congo and Tunisia.
Useless team, clueless coach, foolish sports minister and pathetic government.

  12. I watched the first half of the game and Zambia outplayed Bafana Bafana which reminded me of those good days. The boys enjoyed themselves and if they maintained that form through the game with over 60% possession and high skill they should have dented SA’s recent form.

Not sure if the loss in tactic or the lapse affected the game plan. My observation is that most of the players switched off the last 15 minutes and lost the steam. That is when they lost the game.

The coach and technical team must work on this short coming in the next 10 days before the AFCON kick off. Zambia has a good team we only need people that can finish. Also prepare the boys to go 120 minutes physically and mentally.

  13. Apart from that fluke of a goal, Zambia outplayed South Africa in all departments. I am pleased with what I saw, reminded me of the old chipolopolo days. I have no doubt that they will do well in Afcon.
