The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has assured the nation that holders of voters cards issued with wrong dates during the recent replacement exercise will be allowed to vote contrary to the suggestion that holders of such cards will not be allowed to vote.Akafuna-ECZ.
ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna in a statement has explained that the wrong date on the voters’ card does not invalidate the cards.
Mr Akufuna explains that the entry of the wrong date was a clerical error which occurred at only two centres at Mushindano School in Solwezi East Constituency and Community Development Centre in Solwezi Central.
He adds that the mistake was corrected and it was established that only 430 replacement cards were issued with the wrong date.
Mr Akufuna further states that instruction have since been issued to the District Electoral Officer on Solwezi to ensure that poll staff allow the holders of such cards to vote during the presidential election as the cards are valid.

Voters card buying scam unearthed in rural opposition strongholds! Unscrupulous thugs are on the loose with loads of cash to buy off voters cards from hungry villagers! This practice is reported to have taken place also in 2011 in the same areas where cards were being re-issued!
Another sickening trick will come from polling assistants for the illiterate and visually challenged voters! Due to high levels of illiteracy, some voters need assistance where to put the X! Unscrupulous polling assistants may deliberately mislead such voters to put the X in the wrong!
This raises the question why such should be allowed to vote.
This calls for extra ordinary vigilance by all so that culprits are caught and prosecuted!

Which wrong dates are these. If it is the date of issue, I also have a wrong date on my voter’s card as being 27 March 2010, and I’m in Lusaka. I believe this is the same for all replacement cards in Lusaka Central. I took it that this is what is contained in the database!
