The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has assured the nation that holders of voters cards issued with wrong dates during the recent replacement exercise will be allowed to vote contrary to the suggestion that holders of such cards will not be allowed to vote.Akafuna-ECZ.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna in a statement has explained that the wrong date on the voters’ card does not invalidate the cards.

Mr Akufuna explains that the entry of the wrong date was a clerical error which occurred at only two centres at Mushindano School in Solwezi East Constituency and Community Development Centre in Solwezi Central.

He adds that the mistake was corrected and it was established that only 430 replacement cards were issued with the wrong date.

Mr Akufuna further states that instruction have since been issued to the District Electoral Officer on Solwezi to ensure that poll staff allow the holders of such cards to vote during the presidential election as the cards are valid.

    • PF should know that Zambians are watching every rigging move PF is trying to use.

Random samples of voter’s cards will also be taken out of each bunch and marked to test whether the marking ink disappears after some time.

Movement of ballots to totalling centres to be air lifted in the presence of 11 party representatives only.

No signing of ballot count papers before counting is complete.

Senior UPND officials will be flying around in helicopters monitoring the situation on the ground.

    • Be serious Chrispin! Don’t trivialize such issues. Needless to say that the credibility of ECZ is already in question!
Do you have special training for these chaps you use for these processes? What minimum qualifications should the card- issuing officer have? Let’s be professional!

    • I have said it before, that the same confusion that befell the PF and MMD will also take root to make sure that the elections are not rigged and HH emerges the winner.

PF we are watching your moves.

We need to know how many voters are on the register before voting starts.

  3. and of course the error was in Solwezi, not in chief Mpezeni’s area! So why should we dismiss Mr Canisius Banda’s concerns?

ECZ you haven’t yet proven/disproven the fading ink saga. Is it or is it not possible? – Enquiring minds want to know!

Also, Kudos to ZWD for showing pictures of this date snaffu. Otherwise they would have said it was a figment of UPND’s imagination!!

  4. Voters card buying scam unearthed in rural opposition strongholds! Unscrupulous thugs are on the loose with loads of cash to buy off voters cards from hungry villagers! This practice is reported to have taken place also in 2011 in the same areas where cards were being re-issued!

Another sickening trick will come from polling assistants for the illiterate and visually challenged voters! Due to high levels of illiteracy, some voters need assistance where to put the X! Unscrupulous polling assistants may deliberately mislead such voters to put the X in the wrong!

This raises the question why such should be allowed to vote.

This calls for extra ordinary vigilance by all so that culprits are caught and prosecuted!

  8. Which wrong dates are these. If it is the date of issue, I also have a wrong date on my voter’s card as being 27 March 2010, and I’m in Lusaka. I believe this is the same for all replacement cards in Lusaka Central. I took it that this is what is contained in the database!
