Acting President Guy Scott has called for strengthening of cooperation and relations between government and chiefs in North-western Province in order to spur development in the area.

Dr Scott said government wants to work with chiefs in the area in order to foster development and improve the welfare of the people.

The Acting President assured the chiefs that government is working round the clock to ensure that the region benefits from the massive mining investments in the region.

This follows appeals from Chief Mumena that government addresses the unequal distribution of wealth in the province emanating from the huge mining investments in the area.

Chief Mumena also commended Dr Scott for exhibiting great leadership during the transition period and ensuring that the turbulence did not rock the boat.

The traditional ruler urged government to learn from other countries by adopting governance systems that avoid presidential elections following the death of a sitting president.

ZANIS reports that Dr Scott is in Solwezi to inspect government developmental projects in North-western Province.

He is accompanied by Local Government and Housing Minister Emmanuel
Chenda, PF Secretary General Davies Chama, Mufumbwe Member of Parliament Steven Masumba and senior government officials.

Mr Masumba , who is former Sports Deputy Minister and was recently
pardoned and released from jail was air lifted by jubilant PF cadres .

And addressing the crowds at the airport, Dr Scott thanked the people
for braving the rains to receive him.

He has since called on the people of North-western province to desist from being used as tools of political violence.

He said he was happy with the level of support for PF Presidential candidate Edgar Lungu in the province and directed party members to go flat out and campaign.

Dr Scott said the PF is the only party that can get the job done in developing the country and improving the welfare of Zambians.

The Acting President is on a three day working visit and will visit five other districts to check on the progress of development projects in the province and hold a series of public meetings.

Dr Scott is expected to officiate at the ground breaking ceremony of Ikelenge District Hospital, which was declared a new district in 2012 by late President Michael Sata.

He will also inspect the national grid connection project in Mwinilunga, commission Chavuma District Hospital and inspect the construction of Chavuma Police Station.

The Acting President has in the last fortnight been checking on government projects in education, roads, health and energy sectors among others on the Copperbelt, Central and Lusaka provinces.

  1. Aaah Scotty…..I see what you did there! Asking them to strengthen ties with government…..and not specifying which governemnt and when…

As usual, I will be your interpretor and personal vuvuzela:

    Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Guy Scott says you must strengthen ties with government! That government is UPND after January 20th!
Those who have ears Let them hear Scotty’s words!

  2. Oh my foot, poor reporting…! Which projects were instituted by the PF government in North western Province? Check your facts well reporter, Ikelenge District was not declare by Michael Sata, it was declared by Rupiah Banda. Michael Sata declared Manyinga District, the one and only one, I mean one, not 2. Be serious when reporting, and report fairly about Chief Mumena. He must have castigated the government for no development projects in the past three and half years of Power Failure (PF) in the province. He is a no nonsense and learnt Chief. I advise them them to meet His Royal Highness Mankanki Kazanda Chanyika, they will learn the heard way.

    • For North-Western Province to develop it needs to have self-less and brave chiefs like Chief Mumena who will say- it- like- it- is. This is necessary because the calibre of the current crop of MPs from that province leaves much to be desired – in other words useless. For instance what sensible thing can one expect from MPs like Masumba a mere dancer for Fally Ipupa? They never even utter a word in parliament. Or could it be that the press is biased in its reporting since it is in the hands of northerners and easterners?

  3. If Zambians vote for PF again then education is zero . All those lies and violence happening right now . Any party without violence please , Not everyone is in politics in Zambia we don’t want any violence please . If those bandits stole money from the government then jail is there next home . How much does a minister get paid to buy a brand new x 5 BMW ? Those useless generals in the army your time has come to step down for someone new ?

    • North-Western province keep wasting time with opposition leaders. It was the same even in the time of Mushala. Learn to move with time, this time around it is PF. Give them support and people to appoint to senior positions.
Pande said Kasempa is no go area for MMD, what party is he? Is he not MMD, if not so then let him resign and openly join UPND. It is people like him that are letting NW down. MMD tried, you rejected them. PF is now trying, you tell them it is no go area, how will they develop Kasempa if it is their no go area. I pity NW people for sending wrong people to parliament.

  4. Scott, you won’t be there after 20th and so Lungu will be a captive to the PF tribalists and they won’t do anything to North Western. Just bring us some pineapples for now whilst we await for HH to take over power

  5. My hunch is that N/W is a run away to UPND by between 80 to 95%. No amount of gymnastics and prisoner pardon by scott will sway this fact.

What Chief Mumena is saying is that there are several high flying mines in N/W and none in Mchinga. How come the latter has 3 universities built in the last 3 years and none for the former?

  6. Somehow I have a soft spot for Guy Scott. He is the only PF senior leader who seems to have a semblance of liking for North-Western Province. For instance during the 2011 general and presidential election campaigns it was Guy Scott who went to NWP. Sata went to all the other provinces except NWP. Unfortunately for Guy Scott the people of NWP have to support HH because the large majority of PF leaders do not care about NWP. Furhermore, apart from late Mwanawasa(MHSRIP) HH is the only leader who has been attending all the traditional ceremonies in NWP. So the people of NWP should show appreciation to HH by voting for him. I pity Guy Scott, but then don’t mind the mealies the mosquitoes must die.
