North-Western province records 1,845 girl pregnancies in 2014

Share

More than 1,800 girls dropped out of school last year due to pregnancies in North-Western province alone.

North-Western province Education Officer Allan Lingambe told ZANIS in Solwezi that 1,845 girls went on maternity leave after falling pregnant out of whom 1,148 managed to return through the re-entry policy.

Mr Lingambe said 697 have not come back after their maternity leave.

He noted that there was an increase in the number of girls who fell pregnant in 2014 compared to the 2013 record of 1, 628.

Mr Lingambe said the rate is quite alarming and the Ministry has embarked on sensitizing communities on the importance of girl education as a way of reducing the number of girls dropping out of school due to pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Mr Lingambe disclosed that 2,114 girls absconded from writing grade nine examinations last year.

Mr Lingambe said out of 10,486 girls who entered only 8,372 sat for examinations.

He attributed this to high rates of pregnancies and early marriages.

  1. Bûnda bwakuya kuli ba Pastor daily, Ukufunda umwana kufikapo, mwema hypocrites tamufikapo pakufunda abana that’s why amafumo yakupala ayo!!

You are a disgrace to the human race, for someone who lives in the Uk, I cant believe you are still bigoted. Do you accept racism, and racist views? Do you accept the name calling and pigeon holing some racists apply to black people? If you dont believe in racism, how can you believe in this tribal tosh?

    • Tekuli ba Pastor beka iyo. Ati kabiye kuli ba nokosenge baye kufunda. Sh!t if you ask me. Nokosenge nao alikwata abana ba kuifyalila. Things have changed now, its not like the time of our parents when people looked after other people’s children whole-heartedly. Its wako ni wako and I would be surprised to find in this day and age kind souls who do that. They are very few. Tiyeni tule ifundila mwebantu whether boys or girls!
And for the girls, ukutemwa brazillian hair na weave which you can’t afford, mwapula amafumo kuli ba bus conductor. Nga mwa filwa ukusanga ifyupo in future, you will start disturbing other people’s marriages mwala senda na ama shamo ati ‘iyo, ni ba mbuya ba ndowele lintu balipo, eku shama uku’. Foolish.

  2. While we have been brainwashing our children to be Christians; religion has not worked for us, I would suggest that we try something else now. It is said that the mark of a fôôl is one who keeps doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result.
Why don’t we try teaching our children to respect themselves, others and the environment? Why don’t we teach our children how to be disciplined in public? Why don’t we teach them how to be kind and forgiving? With all our churches, overnite prayers, miracle water, greedy pastors and forced brainwashing we are no closer to being good kind humans; time for a change because it seems like all this religion (Christianity) is making us fôôlishly ignorant and uncivilised.

  3. Common people, it makes two to tangle. The last time So lazy has become a cosmopolitan place. That is why it is important to participate in public hearings concerning the environment and social impact assessments as put up by ZEMA. Right now what you are facing in So lazy is the impact of mining.Mining changes the social structure of society.Never make lame and shallow comments.

  4. one word “POVERTY”…..Until the middle class income increases we will still have girls who think getting married or pregnant is the way out of ukuchula !

  5. Region lacks adequate boarding schools where matrons and masters-on-duty would care and supervise them adequately.

Pregnancies are a result of abject poverty in the Region whose people are considered subjects and servants of the masters in the North!

  6. Instead of voting wisely, they went to have sex!!! This is a very big number who got pregnant. Pa last bakabepeshe naba mbuya babo ati balibalowa family yonse taboopwa. F00lish!!!!! Ba six koloko imwee!!!
