Expelled MMD former Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu has described as madness the move by the party’s National Executive Committee to expel him along with 17 other senior party officials.
The MMD National Executive Committee meeting resolved on Saturday to expel Mr Nyangu and 17 others including Members of Parliament for gross indiscipline after the endorsed and campaigned for other presidential candidates in the January 20 presidential election.
But Mr Nyangu said expelled the 18 is a sign of madness on the part of MMD President Dr Nevers Mumba.
He said there is no way a single individual in the name of Dr Mumba can expel all those senior members without following procedure.
‘This is just madness and rubbish. Dr Mumba can’t expel me because i was elected at the convention and i can only be removed by a convention of if i choose not to stand. As President, he has no powers to expel any member,’ Mr Nyangu said.
He said the MMD constitution does not give absolute power the President of the party.
‘He is now abrogating our party’s constitution at will and some of the members he is expelling have dragged the party to court and the court process is in motion and he is now showing contempt of court by this action,’ he said.
Mr Nyangu added, ‘as for me, am not even worried because that action does not amount to anything. It is just madness.’

Even you can do the same thing Nevers has done if you were in his shoes. Those Mps should leave and join the party of their choice. That kind of nonsense happens only in Africa. It does not matter whether senior member or not if he’s not respecting the party constitution he should be expelled.

Only a bad leader can tolerate the indiscipline of the so called senior members. I am yet to find a party as useless as MMD where its members will go to support other parties and still claim they are members of MMD. These members should know that in Africa – a party that loses election is almost dead and buried. It is not attractive, especially after being in power for 20 years. Though Nevers is a Pastor he can not perform miracles that can make MMD attractive. The members need to be together and build their own party. They all abandoned the party when they smelt money and jobs in the other parties. Some have never accepted Nevers after he beat them in the elections. So what are they waiting for in MMD? For the MPs they are interested in gratuities. The way to go!
The ladies and gentlemen that have been expelled had already left MMD. This was inevitable however expulsion is that the solution , come 2016 , we will not just adopt them to stand in their respective constituencies as they have proved beyond any reasonable doubt that they are not loyal to their own political party.
MMD will rise again.

…however, I’m still of the view that instead of expelling them, the committee just needed to suspend them for now….any indiscipline conduct of any individual must first pass through a disciplinary wing of the party….if an individual fails to exculpate themselves, it is the duty of the disciplinary committee to recommend whatever disciplinary action it so deem to the main committee to discharge the fate….so far I have not heard any disciplinary case hearing for nearly all the affected senior members….that’s why Nyangu has got the guts to say its madness….

It’s one thing to cross party lines to endorse opposition candidates. It’s quite another to insult, heckle and belittle your party president as Masebo did in support of opposition.
That’s just the problem with Zambian Cross-Party politics. Often it is not based on puritanical verite but Party fall outs. In the case of being unable to support your Party and Leader because you have no confidence in them…..it is required to act honourably and resign.
This is a classic example of lack of foresight.
You know your Party’s core vision is now in the past, hence you are no longer a strong contender by a mile. You know your predecessor RB has caused irreversible damage to your Party by his ill-conceived failed comeback. You know the only hope you have to go forward is to be proactive and team up with other Parties or face extinction.

…LPM created NCC for the constitution process…MCS rubbished the idea but his lieutenants disagreed with him and joined the group…they were all threated with expulsions…that’s Zed for you..
