Yellow fever vaccinations are no longer required for travel between Zambia and South Africa, the South African Department of Health has announced.

The requirement was lifted on Saturday with immediate effect.

The decision was made at the World Health Assembly on Friday in Geneva.

The decision by SA’s health department comes after the World Health Organisation confirmed that Zambia had low yellow fever potential exposure status, which means travellers should not be required to carry a yellow fever vaccination certificate.

The requirement was bemoaned by the tourism industry, which suggested that it was putting travellers off the destination, especially because they could visit the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe without having a vaccination.

  1. Lungu did it! Sorry HH. The more good Lungu does, the more hurt you will be,

Personally, I prefer a lawyer to an economist

    • History is replete with successful administrations being those presided on by lawyers, educated Political Scientists, Historians and “some” retired military Generals who democratically entered politics through the ballot. E.g, America’s best success years are attributed to the Presidency of the likes of General DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER who presided on massive infrastructure developments among them interstate highways and bridges, Reagan, lawyers President Clinton and reformist Obama to mention but a few. History shows that world over, countries that have elected MBA holders as Presidents at most, have found themselves in some national economic disasters because their structured thinking to formulas and theories fail to fit in national situations that tend to be very dynamic by nature.

    • It is therefore a matter of flawed logic to keep postulating that the development and consolidation of our national democratic process is only attainable under an MBA holding President with successful business empires. I thinks its time UPND revisited its stamp message to win hearts of the majority voters. Their current one is not and may not win them enough national votes.

    • @ Nubian Prince; you have taken your pick; it an honourable choice. Concern yourself with matters of disputes and crime that end up in a verdict of either “Guilty and not Guilty”. Someone needs to deal with matters of production, distribution and consumption of goods and services that create wealth for the country and its people. There always two sides of the coin, and we have to live with that.

    • YOU ARE SICK! IS IT LUNGU WHO DID WHAT? WHAT IGNORANCE! IT IS ALL ABOUT THE OBSERVATION MADE BY WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION . IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PREVALENCE OF THE DISEASE IN THE COUNTRY, NOT LUNGU. YOU SEEM TO BE TOO OBSESSED WITH CHAKOLWA CHAGWA LUNGU. I THINK YOU ARE ALSO SICK JUST LIKE HE IS. WAIT FOR DRAMA TO UNFOLD ON LUNGU. LUNGU IS A DEAD WOOD AT STATE HOUSE. IT’S ANOTHER TIME WASTED FOR ZAMBIA, ALL BECAUSE OF A FEW SELFISH INDIVIDUALS LIKE YOURSELF WHO ARE DEEPLY ROOTED IN TRIBALISM SUCH THAT YOU WOULD RATHER VOTE FOR A FROG AS LONG AS THAT FROG IS BEMBA OR NYANJA. SHAME ON YOU!

    • This issue was negotiated for by Guy Scott. This is not Edgar Lungus doing.. Lets face it ,Guy Scott might have had issues with Lungu but He deserves all the praise and support for holding this country together during that period and the fact that him and Sata were PF will never be erased from History. Without these 2 what we are left with is an imitation of PF.it looks like PF,it walks like PF,but it does not feel like PF .Sad as it is but Factual.

    • Awe ba Nubian Princess naimwe! Don’t behave like the UPND chaps who still think that HH forced ERB to reduce the price of fuel. You are way above that!

    • To PF nitwits, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is like God. Everything good will be ascribed to him. Everything bad will be blamed on HH even when HH is/has not been in government.

Like Schwarzenegger said, “Being a PF sympathizer is an incurable disease.”

    • @haleisa halelanda, you are just a big lier, muzungu opusa did nothing as regards to diplomatic relations with south africa, instead he told south africans that they are back-ward and hence hate him. Please don’t praise guy Scott cos he was a menace to Zambia.

  2. Nubian Princess you dander head tribalist. What has your chakolwa have to do with this?Just wait for your drunkard and his criminal sponsor RB for their true colours. They are in a hurry to amass riches in 18 months. You useless Numbian gent.

  3. Well, at last some good news for mother Zambia!

This yellow fever vaccination certificate was really a bother and thorny inconvenience!

Thanks to all those who were involved in working towards lifting this segregation. ..

  4. It is not even a month Edga Lungu has been governing. 15months a long way. He already want to go holiday before he constitutes a team to look at the constitution, the mines are laying off workers. not all farmers have been paid, the cabinet is not complete, no funds have been disbursed for projects and most of them has stalled and the list is endless! Let him enjoy state house as much as he can because his rule will be the shortest in the history of Zambia. He is yet to step on the toes of those he will not appoint to any position but supported him. The climax is yet to come. Chimbwi no plan. The Barotseland agreement is too big for him to handle. He doesnt even know the boundaries which takes most of the copperbelt, SP, WP NWP LP and central!

  5. #4 ISO ..You are so bitter Man!! Lungu this!! Lungu that!! Dont act like you gat a big stick up your back side. Relax, take a chill pill MAN. People like you are so annoying because you just sit on your massive behind and criticise from without..

  6. This is attached to international issues and not based on one man’s show!! Hence no worshipping!! So many mental retarded humans in Zambia!!

  7. Zambians have a short memory. This has nothing to do ECL but Guy Scott. It was after the death of President Sata that GS addressed a COMESA meeting where he slammed SA for this Yellow fever certification requirement. People blamed him for that talk but the result can be seen and I am sure every one is happy. Lets give praise where it is due. GS, you are MY MAN. WE WILL MISS YOU.

    • Really? South Africa is not part of COMESA.

Btw – you win more points in international diplomacy by making friends than by “slamming” other countries as you say. That’s why they call it diplomacy!

My bet is if Guy were still VP this never would have changed.

    • Scott held this country together after Sata’s death yet he hasn’t bern recognized for that. President Lungu should do so. It shows the PF reconciliation was just for the elections. Scott tried despite the in fighting in PF.

    • @scovy, you are a lier, remember what Scott said. He south africans are back-ward and all his mouth dirrhea was due to bitterness, leave muzungu opusa out of this. Even HH once said Scott is the only stupid white man living on earth.

  8. # NINE – 6. The truth hates! I undestand where you are coming from because your illiterate and dull late president of yours used to blat the same words. Bitter, bitter, bitter and I am sure he copied from the learned lawyer Kabimba. Vodga, kaminamisa, beerman Lungu and a thief for that matter is not capable of presidency. Watch the space when he starts back tracking on his promises. Remember his advisor RB who also went on holiday immediately he got into power dragging along his clan? Only men from the east in the bible are wise! Mark my words!

    • just paid K300 and travelled here, to South Africa this morning. SA check in counters asked for the yellow fever document. Even in SA – the same. The argument is that SA has not received documentation on the lift.

    • Why is the vaccine for yellow fever so expensive in Zambia? In many countries it costs the equivalent of K30.00 at the most. Many things are definitely wrong in Zambia.

  9. Good move. Too bad for the Intercity boys who used to sell the yellow fever books @K100 each. No more business for them.

  10. Lungu’s work?

Sure, it’s amazing what can be achieved in international diplomacy when the President doesn’t make jokes about his South African counterpart’s bald head and the Vice President doesn’t boast about his dislike for South Africa and South Africans.

  11. A cadre always sees politics in everything. …presidential campaigns are over now; time use your brains and post sensible contributions not that political rubbish you were posting last month its outdated.

  12. let the south african government also issue a statement, these guys can be stupid sometimes, especially at the boarder. I can not trust them the way they treat us at beitbridge can tell how cruel they can be

  13. This is good news. People used to make free money out of this. I remember when my brother in SA visited us with his four (4) children, when going back it became a problem. They were not allowed to board a plane. So frantically, I started inquiring where to get the yellow fever cards for them and I was told there were some people that issue them just by the Airport. When I found them they charged each person on the trip K 400.00. I had to spend K 2000 for five of them. To me that was not necessary and very expensive. Thanks and Viva – President ECL. This is Good news.

  14. Long before this I had not been asked for any Yellow Fever certificate as I traveled to and from SA – especially that usually my stamp did not show I originated my trip from Zed. In any case even the few times that I drove from Zed I did not have to produce the certificate. I think they were observing those who either looked dodgy or sick!

  15. The yellow fever vaccine is good for people who travel a lot around the world to avoid getting infected. The yellow book is not merely a travel document, the vaccine keeps you safe. The problem is people just want to complain even when something is done for their own good. This requirement must not bother serious people. I had one even long before South Africa started asking for it. The problem is that Zambians tend to be bitchy for no apparent reason.

  16. Seen the Map of Africa in the story? The reason we were subjected to this yellow vaccine regime was because of our porous border with infected countries – Angola, DRC and Tanzania. Zambia has made commitment that screening processes for travellers from the 3 neighbouring countries have now been eefected/improved therefore, rendering our risk profile as low. This has nothing to do with politics.

    • Really? The border between Angola and Namibia is more porous so why didn’t Namibia get classified as Yellow fever country?

  17. ISO # 12 Are you part of ISIS. To me, you seem like what we call an “armchair general” seated in you little living room in Mtendere and just throwing jabs at an individual who actually is trying to alleviate your poor status. If you are all that, GET UP !! and get in the fight. Come out and announce what different standards you can bring to the lovely people of Zambia. Don’t just bark from your as.h.le.
