National Assembly resumes sittings on February 24

The National Assmbly, which adjourned in December, last year, resumes proceedings on Tuesday February 24, 2015 with minor notable changes in the House.

National Assembly Clerk Doris Mwinga confirmed in a press statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Ms. Mwinga said all the Member of Parliament (MPs) are expected to be in Lusaka on February 23.

Among the faces that will be missing from the house is President Edgar Lungu who before his election as sixth republican president was Chawama Law maker and will be expected to open the session sometime later this year.

The House will also see Vice President Inonge Wina take the front seat following her new appointment.

Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila who resigned as defense deputy minister goes to the front seat while Dr. Ngosa Simbyakula takes over from Mr. Lungu as Justice Minister would also join the front bench.

Former Vice President Guy Scott who is PF Lusaka Central MP will take the back bench seat.

Mulenga Sata, the former Lusaka Mayor is the new entrant as Deputy Minister for State House together with Commerce Minister Margret Mwanakatwe.

UPND Solwezi Central MP Dawson Kafwaya also moves from the opposition to the executive following his appointment as North-western province minister taking over from Nathaniel Mubukwanu who has been moved to Southern province.

The House will be without former Commerce Minister Bob Sichinga and Southern province minister Daniel Munkombwe.

Meanwhile, other nominated MPs will miss the house following President Lungu’s indication that some Ministers may be reappointed and others not.

The House is expected to ratify Ireen Mambilima who has been appointed as Chief Justice to take over from Lombe Chibesakunda who has been relieved off her duties by the Head of State.

In the last session, the House considered many oral and written questions, passed some bills and the 2015 national budget, among others.

The House also commiserated fifth republican president Michael Sata on his death as a sitting president.

  1. lets be matured enough to make comments on the topic at hand not just to talk about HH. If you don’t know this man is enjoying his wealth but you who are poor just comment without food on your tables and your families.
    The topic is on reopening of national assembly pliz.

    • We are not interested in the wealth but in the heart of a leader we hope to choose simple. If people are not happy with him let them talk. You can feel ashamed of yourself by saying the man is enjoying his wealth Welby other people are there suffering without food what a wealth person.
