Some parents in Ndola’s Chipulukusu compound have complained about the poor disposal of used condoms at drinking places in the area.

And Ndola City Council Public Relations Manager Roy Kuseka said it was difficult to control disposal of used condoms because the activity is done in privacy.

One of the parents Mary Mwango said indiscriminate disposal of used condoms had become a challenge as children picked them to blow as balloons.

“We mothers are concerned about the poor disposal of used male condoms at bars and taverns here in Chipulukusu. After drinking beer many people make love and dump used condoms anywhere and in the morning we just see children blowing them as balloons.

This habit is inhumane because it has become a health hazard to our children. We are not saying people should not make love but they should be responsible of how they dispose used condom,” said Mrs.Mwango.

Mrs. Mwango said children are prone to many diseases and there was need to protect them as a way of reducing child mortality rate in the country.

She advised bar owners to ensure that their surroundings were cleaned in the morning and carefully dispose used condoms.

But the Ndola City Council PR Officer Mr Kuseka however said sexual activities were done in private so it would be difficult for local authorities to regulate the disposal of used condoms.

“There is need for people to exercise hygiene. Indiscriminate disposal of used condoms is a serious health danger especially for children who innocently pick them and play with them as balloons.

The challenge is that there is no law that stipulates how used condoms should be disposed but the Public Health Order Act indicates that everything that qualifies to be waste should be disposed at designated places. It is only irresponsible few people who have the tendency of throwing such things without care for the general public,” Mr. Kuseka said.

  1. This habit is inhumane because it is poses as a health hazard, maybe we should start making condoms that one can swallow after use in privacy? All the best

From your friends in Livingstone 2015

    • Has Livingstone started making condoms that one can swallow after use? Atleast they are using condoms to reduce the spread of the virus. task the bar owners to be patrolling their facility radius to combat illicit sex after drinking sprees…sex iwama munganda not mulunsonga…yaaaah. Its sad that people cant even afford to buy a baloon for their children. What country has Zambia become?

  3. The same parents complaining during the day are the same ones that dispose of those condoms when they go out to play at night. Damn!

  4. This should not be taken lightly. If a child picks up a used condom of an infected man, the child gets the virus. In as much as the council can not control this, let the bar owners pick these balloons first thing in the morning before the children are up. Those without children can joke about this, but us mothers are worried sick. Think of the sick dirt that a child takes in when blowing the damn thing.

  5. But where do they do the sexual acts in and around bars? Does it mean they go into guest houses and come to dispose of the condoms near the drinking places? Excuse my ignorance, because, I don’t go out there to know what people can do in the open, in the deep of the night! That is a big shame on society.

    • its done most in cars, corners , even inside these bars and night clubs. the council is only interested in area where they know they will make money not in picking up used condoms. this has because the working culture of most Zambian. let me not say more…. you should see them then they go around closing and confiscating beers from bars that open before the stipulated time. just wonder were all that beers goes

  6. I am buying used condoms at K 300 each. I need them for making mankwala ya chuma.

This is the advert I will put in papers and there will be no used condoms thrown about within a week.

    • A PHD student who cannot differentiate between a used and unused condom leaves much to be desired.Come on Mushota ! you have used millions and you know what a used one looks like.

  7. Iwe Ka Mushota, you don’t look at your condom after you use them? who is the foolish guy who does it with you without using one? I wouldn’t with you!
