Confed Cup Preview: Power seek good start in Sudan

Share

Power Dynamos seek a good start to their 2015 CAF Confederation Cup outing on Saturday when they visit Al Khartoum of Sudan.

Kickoff is at 19h00 Zambian time in Khartoum as Power return to continental football for the first time since 2012.

The match will be the two sides debut meeting and Power’s first competitive game of the 2015 season.

Sudan has recently not been a good hunting ground for Power who lost on their last visit in 2001 to El Merreikh in the Champions League second round after losing 2-0 away and 2-1 in Kitwe.

Furthermore, Power hope they can shrug off the pre-season rust that usually hit Zambian clubs who compete in continental matches after two months of no competitive action.

“We want to go all the way to the final, meaning that we are looking beyond this game,” Power coach Tennant Chilumba said.

This will also be Chilumba’s first continental outing with Power since taking charge in June, 2013.

Meanwhile, Power will host Al Khartoum in the final leg on March 1 at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Winner over both legs will play either Polisi of Zanzibar or Gabonese club CF Mounana in the first round, first leg away in mid-March.
