The Zambia congress of Trade unions (ZCTU) has called for honest and open dialogue with government over the wage freeze imposed on public workers in the country.

ZCTU President Chishimba Nkole says there is need for Government to respect workers rights by opening up dialogue over the disputed wage freeze.

Mr Nkole said that public workers have a right to bargain which must be respected and adhered to by Government as a major employer in the country.

ZANIS reports from Kalulushi District that the ZCTU leader said this in an interview today.

He added that ZCTU is waiting on Government to invite the Union for discussions over the wage freeze.

In another development Mr Nkole has appealed to National Union of Communication and Industrial workers (NUCIW) Branch officials at the Nitrogen chemicals of Zambia in Kafue to re open Offices for their President Robert Munsanje.

Management and NUCIW officials were today scheduled to meet and discuss the fate of Mr Musanje whose office was locked up by branch officials for supporting the United Party for National Development (UPND) in the January 20 Presidential election.

Mr Nkole who condemned the action said the development amounts to political intolerance and intimidation and if left unchecked has the potential to lead to serious anarchy in the Country.

He said NUCIW is an affiliate member of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions whose political stance is that of encouraging co-existence and political tolerance amongst workers.

He urged the officials at NCZ to allow Mr Munsanje back at work and if they strongly feel they have a grievance against him to follow procedure.

  1. Ba union can u for once be serious with your role. It’s very cheap of you to say u are waiting for government to invite u for bargaining. We deserve better representation than what we current see in u people.

  2. Bupuba…Lungu did not indicate that he will negotiate wage freeze, but he said he would lift it…BaChishimba you are very STUPID like your relative Kambwili

  3. You ZCTU you are jokers…you must open your eyes and tell your people country wide and vote for HH2016. You like pretending too much as if all is well when your workers are suffering. Get real and face the reality. The cost of living is unbearable for a common person out there who depends on this meagre salary from civil servant…Useless ZCTU just disband it.

  4. Stop crying already???? you voted for continuation. Ifintu ni poverty. I hope Zambian’s get jacked up this time.

  5. Zambians have voted for continuity with Sata’s vision of wage freeze and high mealie meal prices. And to confirm that there shall be no change, the same wage freeze Chikwanda has been retained by Lungu as Minister of Finance. Stop crying and brace for more suffering.

  6. “The PF government is doing VERY WELL, according to Zambian voters who participated in the 2015 Presidential By-Election.

Those who are complaining must be disgruntled and bitter individuals” so say PF staunch supporter. What else can one say. It is continuity and the people are happy with the following:

    – large # of Ministers
    – Wage freeze continuation
    – Return of Katumbi and cronies to procure arms for our defence forces
    – No need for new constitution
    – RB in active politics and receiving his full benefits of a retired head of state
    – take over of markets/bus stations by party cadres
    – demonising of opposition political party leaders esp Tongas
    – pursuit of one-party state political policy
    – Dictator Mugabe as consultant to Zambia’s political leadership.
    – Public…
