President Edgar Lungu has arrived in South Africa for medical attention after he was taken ill on Sunday.The President touched down at Lanseria International Airport near Johannesburg at about 17:00 hours and immediately drove to Millpark Hospital to visit former Chimwemwe Member of Parliament, Mr. Willie Nsanda, who is admitted to the health facility.
Mr. Lungu, who flew in with his Presidential plane, was accompanied by First Lady, Mrs. Esther Lungu; his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Mr. Amos Chanda and other government officials. He was received by State House Deputy Minister, Mr. Mulenga Sata, who had arrived in advance; Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa,Mr. Muyeba Chikonde and his wife, Mrs. Musonda Chikonde and other staff from the Mission.
The President was happy to see that Mr. Nsanda was showing good signs of recovery. Both Mr. Lungu and the First Lady encouraged Mr. Nsanda to remain determined and place his faith in God.
Mr. Lungu further narrated events around his illness to Mr. Nsanda and pointed out that he had come to South Africa for medical attention.
He regretted that Mr. Nsanda missed part of the campaign period for the 20th January Presidential elections.
The President later gave an interview to SABC in the hospital grounds during which reporter, Sophie Mokoena, noted that it was extra-ordinary that a head of state has been as forth-coming and open as Mr. Lungu about his health status.
In response, Mr. Lungu observed that Zambia was coming from a situation where it lost two of its presidents and that it was therefore important to be as open as possible about such matters.
He told the reporter that he was feeling fine and was fit to work or even run but that he had to follow doctors’ advice for him to seek medical attention. He said he would be the first one to tell the nation if at all he felt that he was not in good health to handle the office of head of state.
Meanwhile, President Lungu has thanked his South African counterpart, President Jacob Zuma, for making available the medical facilities and for the warm reception that he, together with his delegation, have received. He said this goes to emphasise the cordial relations that exist between the two countries.
Lets pray for willie Nsanda not to die so he can tell us where the billions embezzled at RDA are hidden.

Basically UTH is also supposed to be in Luapula so is a hospital of Milpark standard should be in Zambia.

Can the Medical Association of Zambia in conjunction with the Ministry of Health provide the nation with a comprehensive list of conditions that cant be treated in Zambia so that whenever any of our people are diagnosed with such can automatically be evacuated for specialized treatment.
Leaders get evacuated even for simple ailments that can be treated locally at great cost to tax payers, why?
We have many qualified specialists who can do a good job, but need specialised tools to do their jobs properly.
Our hospitals must be modernised and equiped such that with our strategic positioning, we become a referal centre for our neighbouring states. we have the money to do this and must be done NOW!!
Our leaders are not the only ones entitled to good quality life

Of all the money borrowed by PF I guess about 30% has been spend on importing medical services abroad. All this money would have been used to improve our health facilities , expand medical school, and buy specialist medical equipment.

True he appears normal when he walks around but if you listen carefully when he speaks he is short of breath and then the swelling of the face or cheeks is common for those with kidney issues. It will be great if he steps aside in 2016 and allows a more energetic candidate except he wont qualify for presidential pension when he does that…but the Zambian people are peace loving we would move parliament to build him a home and allow him at least 75% of the retirement package for a job well done….if I recall he actually initially declined to take office after Sata citing his health issues…but I might have misread….

Today I am really angry about reading of a delegation going to SA to witness one man getting admitted to hospital, and to see former leaders so comfortable in South Africa. I must admit that I am a bit soft on Lungu because I think he represents the new generation of leaders and has a chance do the right things regardless of how he ascended to power, but what is Mulenga doing there anyway? These fellas are having a good time, enjoying life in the pretext of working. I mean, they are getting allowances and some free cosy accommodation, plus good food, you name it including women when there is a looming shortage of fuel back home. Any way, a reminder to all is that no matter how far you want to run away from your home and your own, when your time is up you remains will be brought back home
Why are all those idiiots SA really? Lungu is sick and can be accompanied by his wife and spokesperson with a few bodyguards.
