President Edgar Lungu has been discharged from a Pretoria Hospital in South Africa.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda said the Head of State who was admitted to a Pretoria Hospital was discharged today after specialist doctors certified him fit to resume his duties.

Mr Chanda said the President underwent a successful medical procedure yesterday on March 13, 2015.

He said the President is working on arrangements for his return to Lusaka.

President Lungu was admitted at a Pretoria hospital where he underwent a theatre procedure yesterday to correct his achalasia, a condition of the narrowing of the food pipe which caused him to fall ill during the celebrations of the International Women’s Day on March 8 at the Heroes stadium in Lusaka.

The President left the country for specialist treatment on Tuesday, 10th March.

    • God hasn’t interceded in anything, Lungu is sick, he has been sick & has been hiding that fact. If God was interested he would have long healed him, God does not need someone to collapse in public, be flown off to SA then decide to do something about it. If God operated that way then he is an almight f00l which off course he is not. Nobody delights in the sickness of another, what upsets us is that we are now in a situation of having to deal with another State funeral and byelections. I do not understand how any Zambian wouldn’t find this an issue. The only alternative explaination would be that a number of you want to continue eating off EL until he drops dead!

  12. Doesn’t make sense, nor sit well, I mean it’s incredibly stup!!d for a president of a sovereign state to perennially seek medical attention in other countries. What about a little sense of pride in their own facilities? Always shamelessly trooping to neighbors, please stop it! They have never heard of their counterparts in the region doing the same, excepting Malawians. If a leader has no faith in his own facilities he is mandated to promote and develop, do you think he cares about his country? This sick guy must resign and focus on preserving his life.

    • You are absolutely spot on..look at around you we are a nation of consumers to the average Zambian development is have a RSA owned shopping mall in every township…its no wonder the RSA investors are charging K700 for TV subscription …really laughable…in Europe you can pay telephone, 20MB fiber optic broadband plus premium TV subscriptions with that amount of money. Even the beer we drink every weekend from the bar fridge is all foreign owned…I was in shoprite when in Zambia and was appalled to find that even some as easy to manufacture as black polish is imported from Kenya.
      We never look for solutions and have no pride in self…we are passing on this mindsets to our children….we need to rethink.

      We have severe cancerous complexes that are displayed, in a major way, in all aspects of our lives especially in the market place. We desire foreign stuff. Consequently, stup!dty becomes manifest in our failure to realize that as long as we romanticize this desire, we will never be free. Like Nkrumah said, Political independence without economic independence is meaningless.

      Zambia and Zambians will never be free until they start to love and respect themselves. This means valuing that which comes from them. Every country strives to etch its place in the history of the world by placing something of value for all to consume With us, unfortunately, it is the opposite. We sit on our behinds and want to consume what others have created.

  14. Grateful that our President, our means all Zambians, like it or not, is coming home. Hope he fully recovers. What is sad is how many of us, including the Zambia Watchdog, used the Presidents sickness to come out with a lot of garbage, shame on us all. The Watchdog should realise that as part of the media, they should be true in their reporting, don’t become The Post, initially well respected & now becoming history. Let us learn to criticise in a right & respectful manner, not bring out ones unconfirmed ailments, it is a shame that the ZWD prints lies for the numbers.   20. We have information from RSA hospital where ECL went for medical treatment. All what Zambians are told is president ECL is fit to work. Zambians were not informed in the first place that president ECL is unfit to work due to sickness.
    Today truth is not told to Zambians.
    President ECL is still seriously sick. The president is diabetic, has cancer of the trachea, kidney problems and currently on immune booster treatment. These ailment conditions will make him not perform to the demands of the office of the president. Arrangements need to be made now to avoid confusions as it happened with late president Sata.
    I know some Zambians do not like truth as stated but we cant pretend that truth is false with evidence all over us.

  29. I am just wondering whether those doctors who declared him fit the first time are really competent doctors or it was Lungu who was lying despite being told the truth. Those doctors should be fired for lying to him leading him to collapse in public. Looking at the pictures of the man, he looks very disoriented and confused. I am sure he is in deep thought as to what to expect next. Where is the fake plastic smile that he normally puts on for his publicity stunts? Just looking at him, he cannot handle the pressure, he is contemplating what he can do next. Taking another leave might not be possible because he knows the nation will now get too alarmed.     Take a look at the Contracts for Fuel Supply again. There are invisible hands at play. These Contracts were made by Kabimba.
    We have in our midst desperate people who can do anything to bring the government down.
