barotse council meeting5

A Police Patrol vehicle has been stoned by alleged Barotse activists after three Barotse activists appeared in the Mongu High Court for publicizing false information likely to cause panic and fear in people

Western Provincial Commissioner of Police Standwell Lungu has told ZANIS that the incident happened yesterday around 12:30 after the court adjourned the case.
Mr Lungu said the alleged Baroste activists who attended the court session smashed a police vehicle on the rear screen.

The commissioner further stated that no arrests have been made but police have instituted investigations on the matter to ensure that all those who were involved in the scandal are brought to justice.

In another development a 50 year old man of Kabuyu village in Chief Katundu’s area in Sesheke district in Western Province has died after he attacked by the Hippo on Sunday around 18: 00 hours.

The Commissioner of Police said the deceased who has been identified as Josia Kafuna met his fate while fishing in the Zambezi River at Ngweshi Fishing Camp in a canoe.

Mr. Lungu explained that the hippo pounced on him and broke his right leg that caused excessive bleeding and he later died immediately after being rescued by on lookers.
The body of the deceased has since been buried.

  1. Current Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan lamented that they belittled the boko haram group when it started and now it has became a threat no only to nigeria but to region as well. Criminal such as these in western province are getting inspiration from terror groups like boka haram and if we continue to treat them with kid gloves we will end up with another nigeria, mali or somalia problem. Zambia as a republic has law and regulation that are enshrined in the constitution, please let these prevail, if it says treason, then it will be treason the appropriate sentence as enshrined shall apply. this is not Lungu or PF law niether will it be HH or UPND law but, its the law of the land, Zambia. lets stop this before it gets out of hand.

    • SOME EVIL RICH ZAMBIANS LURKING BEHIND THE SCENES CAUSING CONFUSIONS THAT HAS CHARACTERIZED OUR BELOVED COUNTRY LATELY, ALL COZ OF NEXT YEAR’S ELECTIONS. PEOPLE CAN BE SELFISH EH!

    • @Chagamire is right, he deserves best comment of the week.
But I just wonder why combine or compare smashing of a vehicle, in same story with hippo attacking a man.

    • There’s no treason here. The Barotse Activists are dealing with a country that broke the law in 1968. Unilateral Cancellation of an Agreement between two countries is what constitutes treason. The analogy to Nigeria is just plain s.tu.pidity.

    • They say ‘ignorance is bliss‘… just spewing stuff out of your mouth you don’t understand very well is just uncool.

How can you equate Boko Haram to the Barotseland activists… first the Nigerian is a purely religious Islamist Sharia issue, whereas the Barotse issue is a legal contract which was abrogated. The Barotse activists have not killed anyone ever; to the contrary they have been victims of State and government atrocious murder. Who is breaking the so called ‘law’. So murder is cool and smashing some second hand car amounts treas0n?

For your info, before Zambia, was Barotseland and N/Rhodesia who united, bound by a contractual agreement which was unilaterally abrogated by Zambia. You can’t claim legitimacy of the Zambian law, minus the BA of 1964.

    • Zambia can not exist as a unitary state without Barotseland. This issue is at the Banjul, Gambia African Union Human Rights body as well as the ICC Hague in Netherlands for determination.Barotseland & Northern Rhodesia on 18th May 1964 signed The Barotseland Agreement so that the two countries can be united as one whilst Barotseland retaining her autonomy, just like Tanganyika & Zanzibar unionized to form Tanzania. The case of Barotseland is an international one, therefore, Zambia will real soon face reality & her consequences of her human rights violations in Barotseland.
Ignore this at your own risk. Barotseland is a nation & the Litunga (King) is the Head of State.
Viva Barotseland. Tukongote Litunga Ni Lyetu!

Agreed. Zambia needs to step on this matter ASAP.

There is a thin line between freedom of citizens and citizen actions and beliefs within the confines of our Constitution and Laws.

This is a bizarre development in Zambia, a very unhealthy one. It is somewhat inexplicable that a people can rise up against their own country in this way. Certain political individuals have fanned the flames of discord and must be dealt with.

    • IF YOU ARE GOING TO PROPAGATE A FALSE HOOD DO IT CORRECTLY! YOU CAN’T COMPARE THE BAROSTELAND ISSUE TO BOKO HARAM . BAROSTELAND WAS A SEPARATE ENTITY BEFORE 1964 AND THEN KAUNDA TRICKED THE LOZI’S THUS THE BLOW BACK! BOKO HARAM IS A RECENT MILITANT ISLAMIST GROUP WHO’S SOLE PURPOSE IS TO CREATE A ISLAMIC STATE ! THE PEOPLE ARE MUSLIM’S THAT HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A PART OF WHAT WE CALL NIGERIA , SO TO LINK THE TWO WOULD BE DISINGENOUS TO SAY THE LEAST !

  2. I concur with Changamire. There are times when we have to sacrifice a few lives for the sake of the future. We can allow these villagers who have failed to accept that Zambia is bigger than Barotse hold Government to ransom. The case reduces to treason and it should be treated as such.

    • Nostradamus my thought exactly. How do you link the vehicle to a hippo! Zambian journalists need to be trained properly.

    • Skeleton,
Give me a break, ati king. Are yu living in the 18th century. Monarchs are out dated my dear. Most countries even in Europ have kings and queens but these are powerless, are only ceremonial, whats there is democracy. Democrcy is modern way of governance not those stone age ones.So what are going to do kill them. Govt’s roll is protect citizens.

You should have established a monarch then like Swaziland etc, not now it has been overtaken by events. Now even Nkoyas and other tribes cannot be oppressed and suppressed by u, they want to stand up and be counted.

Otherwise the police will do their work that’s all

  3. The problem with us Zambians is that we easily forget what we say and do. My word of advise to the Zambian government is that let the law breaker be treated the way the law breaker should be treated. The activist who damaged government property should be brought to book and face the necessary punishment. It is the same people in that part of Zambia who cry for development! If the government continues condoning such barbaric behaviour the consequence in future will be fatal. Treat those chaps so that next time no one will ever open the mouth or indulge in that uncivilized behaviour.

    • @ AVINOCAYA

And if the “law breaker” is the Government, then what?
Sit and cry? Pray? Or follow Bible teaching, eye for eye, life for life……?

  4. @tuyu……do you think you can resolve the barotse issue with such an approach…….no.

If such was the case the Zambian government would have closed the matter a long time ago.

The issue, as nchito said when entering a noble during the treason charge of sinyinda and group, bordered on constitutional law.

As a matter of fact, it also borders on international law of treaties.

What the government of Zambia should have done was to truthfully engage the people of barotse land to deal with the matter.

Lungu started well… But it was not to be when Kaunda followed him to mouse from his sick bed

    But for how long.

    Have a good day

    • @Kasaka

That’s the whole reason why HH is disagreeable to so e of our palates. It’s not that he is under 5 or any of those joke descriptions given to him.

There is a great underhand message and agenda underlying HH. And his politics. He is part of the problem in fanning this matter but he tries to hoodwink innocent people with the Rags to Riches promises.

Fact is, if HH ever comes to take office this division in Zambia will be blown open and we will be at war among ourselves.

The voters in the last election and those genuine Zambians looking for a messiah, must really look at HH VERY CRITICALLY to understand his position in this matter.

  5. When are we going to end the bu-rose issue, us a country. All this years, our for father:had been, and we are still been talking about it.Do we expect some one from es else were to come and solve this issue,or it’s upon ourselves to table the matter, and sort it out once and for good. What are we waiting for? What is the pa pose of having the government in place. What is the role of the government,if may ask?Do we have stakeholders;Non governmental organization, churches?why do we have this people in this country.Everyone is just watching.I do not know what we are waiting for?

  6. Ah! common Kasaka, you must surely be so malicious. You don’t know that the head gear is part of their traditional outfit and that it has existed with them since time immemorial?
Have n’t you seen it with them year in year out? And for how long have you seen UPND guys with a similar colour of their head regalia?
Are you the only one who does n’t know that they only used it in this year’s past elections that they used red? In any case if UPND choose to adopt it, does that hate you?. Your name actually tells alot.

  7. Barotse land is a province of Central Province. Why are my little cousins making noise? I will marry all the Rotse women. Tonga Bull 100%

  8. Supporters of these thugs benefited from colonial lies of divide and rule and are beneficiaries of moneys from our coppers sales. They were and are still getting their education from outside from Zambia’s wealth and have put up a defunct “agreement” which was a paper by a colonial power signed by someone who had never gone to school! They parade this useless paper on their blogs like fools trying to win sympathizers and are controlling the thugs from abroad, remotely. I miss KK, he would have dealt with these anarchists firmly and decisively. We need to do so now before they cause anarchy.

    • @Victor

Agreed. KK. Would have stepped on this matter very quickly. I just feel the gov’ts after him have been too engaged in gaining approval from Western gov’ts.

If we fear dealing with people who amount to terrorists through their actions rather than use the law; then what does appearing Human Rights correct mean for Zambian Human Rights?? Are we to tear each other apart for the sake of Western Countries??

The gov’t needs to end this now, firmly. No Barotse negotiations Nd we shall not be threatend.

  9. These guys must be jailed with hard labour. They are a thorn in our flesh. GRZ has pumped a lot of money in Mongu but these guys cant appreciate. Please this time no mercy just jail them ….no sympathy from Zambians enough is enough ….shaaaa.

  10. My fear is that these baboons in WP will simply make this President react in manner that they will live to regret the rest of their lives.
Zambia is a unitary state and this will never abandon this status. Their ancestors were not forced to join the union. They did so willingly and fully knowing that their status both of NER and NWR will be lost. There is no recourse clause in the ACT that gave birth to unitary Zambia. Do not dare us to declare war on these baboons. They may force us to dethrone the Litunga himself and instal a friendly and reasoning Chief. When progressive minds are thinking of unification of SADC countries, we such baboons in our time.

    • Even European countries have EU, now yu are talking about seccession who will give it to u and who will allow u. WP has many other tribes other than lozi so forget about secession

    • Wan

Be informed that there is NO tribe called Lozi in Barotseland. Lozi is the lingua franca of all tribes of Barotseland.

Please get it into your head that LOZI is a Nation or clan now & forever. All the 34 tribes plus of Barotseland is what Lozi is, not a tribe. Your history is distorted.

There is no tribe in Barotseland which is more Lozi or Royal than the other, they are all EQUAL.

These are facts about Barotseland & not the lies you have been bombarded by Northern Rhodesia, West Nyasa, Eastern Luangwa.

If you know nothing, of which you don’t, just shut up & inquire.

    • I was to add that; the Zambian gov’t will gain support for preventing a Rwandan situation in Zambia by International bodies.

Terrorist activities by disgruntled factions must be put down firmly in ALL countries. Zambia must seek assistance in foreign countries to find those Zambians based in those countries who are fanning these flames. We get these campaigners on this site and they seem to live on planet Zog. Their threats to everyday confidence in our country’s security is unacceptable. We want to feel safe and in capable hands.

    • Skeleton,
That ‘equality is just a farce. Yu Lozis being equal with the other tribes in WP, give me a break. Lozis you feel yu are superior in very way to all the others e.g the Nkoyas, the Mbundas etc and you intimidate, suppress and despise them as being yo slaves. But never again, this is a free world my dear and Govt is there to protect everyone from domination by another. That’s why the Nkoyas are not interested in the secession, they don’t want to be part of Bulozi. They want to be an independent tribe in Zambia, you can’t deceive anyone any more bwana

  13. U can say pwetete pwetete……it won’t take away progress made.

Problem with Zambians is that u don’t read and u don’t either research or follow up issues.

Zambians r normally not very intelligent……u can see from the way they vote and from how they have lost their wealth to Indians, Chinese etc.

They drink so much but one wonders what they discuss in those sprees.

U can, as a result, understand why they don’t know what is taking place over barotse land

  14. @Togo
I agree with you, Zambian are not critical thinkers and hence are incapable of solving complex problems. Most are ignorant and have low IQ.

  15. Zamunutu is a fool? Instead of insulting people of Barotseland kindly for your own good take time to understand the Barotseland Agreement B/64 so that when the verdict to separate comes you will not suffer from shock. When need to critically look at what is causing the Activists to smash the police car? The Zambia Draft Constitution was torn to pieces Barotseland Activist, what was the reason? It is the attitude of the Zambian government to trivialize Barotseland issue that is causing tension. if no serious effort is made to resolve the B/64 matter, It will very soon move from a torn Constitution and broken police car to 60 have died after a bomb exploded at a police camp in Ndola. We need sincere dialogue over this matter not insults against the people of Barotseland.

  16. Zambia’s population was 4 million in 1964. Divide this by 8 provinces , Western Province had under 250 000 inhabitants in 1964 . Go back to 18th Century through Mathematical tools , Western province had under 5 000 people .When Sebitwane’s Kololo conquered the area and married off all the Luyi women the area only had a few hundred inhabitants . Not a Kingdom for me and for any one who choses to be objective ! This was a Community of scattered hunters of Animals and gatherers of Fruits. The Barotse Kingdom is a myth , as historical facts do not bear any semblance of a Kingdom. The Litunga was and is just a Chief of a Clan like all Chiefs scattered across the Length and Breadth of Southern Africa . I Know the History and will never be cheated regardless of the 1964 events.

  17. Going Further , another myth is on the so called Traditional Dress worn in Western Province. Looking at the Musisi which we have been told is a Traditional Lozi Dressing for Women , again this is just the type of Dressing the White Women were wearing during the Victorian Age.Tight Waist and Flaired Skirt – Nothing African at All.
As for the Red Caps, Waist Coat and Skirts worn by men. This is just Scottish Dressing , and any one who chooses to look at the Scottish Pipers will see the same Dressing. Even the Colors are the same! Nothing Traditional in this !
As for the Regalia worn by the Chief Litunga, again this is just a British Navy Uniform. I ask Intelectuals and historians to unmask some of these things which are aimed at creating a False History.
