Ex-Roan United star Justin Sakala dies

Ex-Roan United and Green Buffaloes striker Justin “Kalulu” Sakala has died at the age of 43.

Sakala’s younger brother Chundu Sakala announced that the once fleet-footed centre-forward died on Thursday morning at Roan General Hospital in Luanshya after a short illness.

“Justin Sakala died around 02h00 at Roan General Hospital.He was taken to the hospital on Monday,” Chundu said.

Sakala is said to have scored 96 goals in his career.

He launched his career at Prison Leopards in Kabwe in the early 1990s before joining Kabwe Warriors.

He later played for Power Dynamos and Green Buffaloes.

Sakala also featured for the national team under coach Burhard Ziese between 1997 and 1999.

At national team level, Sakala played alonside Davies Phiri,Perry Mutapa, Allan Kamwanga, Hector Chilombo and Jone Mwewa among others.

At club level, Kalulu mingled with players such as John Lungu, Paul Mulenga, Hilary Makasa and Kaunda Simonda.
Sakala is survived by a wife and four children.

  1. My condolences to the family, I used to watch him play alone John Lungu especially when they would come to play Nchanga Ranger in Chingola when the mines used to have all ZCCM Team compete. My condolences the entire family.

  2. Justin Sakala was the fastest man on the pitch.A constant threat to any opposing defence.He helped Roan win the Mosi Cup and BP Top 8.Part of the stylish Roan Utd team that really excelled in the late 90’s.MHSRIP.

I was part of the recruitment team with the late Mr. Munasangu (Chartered Accountant) and Chiti Nseluka (the Economists) who both built an empire of Roan United Football Team sponsored by ZCCM that brought many cups in the town of Luanshya (I don’t know where Mr Kambwili was but anyway that’s a different story…) and found Justin Sakala and the likes of John Lungu, Elija Litana, Hilary Makasa and many others. Jusine was He such a brilliant skilled young footballer and everyone saw a future in him during the 90’s n Luanshya. My HSRIP

    • The guy was brilliant. Ask nkana, power, mighty, blades, rangers, zanaco and warriors die hard supporters they explain. justin was fast and flexible on the ball. ask modoni malitoli and litana, mujembe, agrey, davues phiri they will give u a very clear picture of who he was.
