Ex-Roan United star Justin Sakala put to rest

Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili on Saturday morning led scores of mourners in paying their last respects to ex-Roan United star striker Justin “Kalulu” Sakala who has been put to rest at Mpatamatu Cemetery in Luanshya.

Sakala, 43, died on Thursday morning in Luanshya after an illness.

Kambwili presided over the funeral procession witnessed by several coaches, Roan United players and retired footballers.

Some of the notables included Roan coach Fordson Kabole, his deputy Hilary Makasa, John Lungu, Benjamin”Kawilo”Chilongo and Paul Mulenga.

Sakala launched his career at Prison Leopards in Kabwe in the early 1990’s before joining Kabwe Warriors.

He later played for Power Dynamos and Green Buffaloes.

Kalulu also featured for the national team under coach Burhard Ziese between 1997 and 1999.

At national team level, Sakala played alonside Davies Phiri,Perry Mutapa, Allan Kamwanga, Hector Chilombo and Jones Mwewa among others.

At club level, Kalulu mingled with players such as John Lungu, Paul Mulenga, Hilary Makasa and Kaunda Simonda.

Sakala is survived by a wife and four children.

  1. He was a great footballer mhsrip. Another former Roan United player was put to rest in Mufulira last week by the name of Joseph Katebe. Katebe played for Roan, Zamtel, Inden and lastly at Gomes FC.
