Minister of Youth and Sports Vincent Mwale says Zambia will host the United Nations conference on landlocked developing countries this year.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwale, who is Acting Chief Government Spokesperson, said the United Nations conference on landlocked developing countries will be held in Livingstone from 2nd to 4th June 2015.

He said the hosting of the international conference was a testimony that Zambia is a prime destination for world conferences.

He noted that Zambia will benefit immensely from the gathering as the conference will help the country realise the much needed foreign exchange.

Mr. Mwale said the hosting of the conference will further help to market the country’s tourism potential and also sell the country as a prime investment destination.

The minister said details of the conference will be given at a later stage.

  1. Why not let Zim or Botswana host it? At least Harare looks like a proper city compared to Lsk and Gaborone is well organized and much cleaner than Lusaka.

The stuff I see in Lusaka whenever I visit is pretty embarrassing and I’m ashamed to invite my foreign friends there.

  2. Why is the Minister of Youth and Sort the Acting Govt Spokesperson? I would have thought that it would be someone from Ministry of Information. Mind you having said that at least we don’t have Kambwili spouting his usual.

  3. Mr Enka, I am with you. I am embarrassed to bring many friends to Zambia because of the filth in Lusaka

  4. This statement should be coming from the ministry of tourism. It’s true and foreign exchange can be earned if they tap into this niche market. They are competing with countries that have a coastline and can offer more. Its important they hire someone who understands branding and positioning. Zambia need its own planes flying directly into tourist generating areas so money is not spent in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia or South Africa due to transfers, which are exhausting for tourists if it takes days to get to a host destination. Conference facilities, equipment and all business needs should meet international standards. Internet is a big thing in today’s globalized world and during this time Zesco needs to behave. They need good roads to transport guest to various attractions and sites.
