Opposition Forum For Democracy and Development FDD president Edith Nawakwi has paid tribute to the victims of the Mazabuka and Kafue road accidents and has since sent her condolences to the bereaved families.

The opposition leader said she learnt of the untimely death of so many people with a great sense of shock and anguish due to the circumstances in which she reckoned could have been avoided.

“It is with a deep sense of shock and anguish that we learnt of the untimely deaths of so many people in circumstances that could have been avoided. We pray that the bereaved families find strength and solace in Christ.

Death is a mystery that is always difficult to understand but it is a reality that all humanity has to live with hence. This painful loss should remind all of us that we live with death therefore, we ought to put our hope and faith in Christ at all times.”

Ms. Nawakwi further requested that RATSA and other relevant authorities do an audit on what has gone wrong with the country’s road network and investigate the causes of the continued road carnage leading to the rise in the loss of lives in the country.

The FDD leader also appealed to well wishers including the church, neighbors and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the bereaved families.

  1. To start with overhaul the traffic/ratsa which has become a nuisance to the motorists . Their role on the road is more annoying than controlling traffic flow and removing uroadworthy vehicles/drivers. A 70km stretch between Kitwe and Ndola cannot have seven speed traps, roadblocks and permanent kanyangus in a day! We need an educative tupokolas instead of money vultures in uniforms.

  2. These accidents are due to the bloody thirsty hyenas not what you are saying madam mawikwi Edith. He has even promised more blood shed should he lose 2016.

  3. Very sensible for the first time Edith. But you cant say TO FIND OUT WHAT HAS GONE WRONG. This problem has been with us since independence. It is not new. There was the Muunga family who perished at the Mufulira/Kitwe Road rail crossing many years ago. The problem is with us. You see a bus driver over speeding, you complain, the conductor insults, the other passengers just keep quiet. The police are in the pockets of these unruly groups

  4. Mazabuka municipal council check in your cabinets. There is a blueprint for a road bypass that would link the motel to some where around kaleya. It was prepared in 98/99 when austin bhebe was director planning. The idea was/is that vehicles (trucks especially) passing through Mazabuka would not have to use that very high vertical slope that falls at a T-Junction.
That bypass should have been part of Linkzambia 8000. (My suggestion).
The blood of our fellow humans we lose at that point is on all of us citizenry for not doing anything.
Its not PF, UPND or whatever who die there. Its people.

  5. FOR THE FIRST TIME YOU HAVE SPOKEN SENSE. I GET SHOCKED FOR YOU EDITH TO CRITICISE LUNGU BARELY TWO MONTHS IN OFFICE.

WE NEED BRIDGES ON MOST CROSSINGS ON ALL OUR ROADS. THIS WILL REDUCE ACCIIDENTS AND IMPROVE TRAFFIC FLOWS ESPECIALLY IN LUSAKA. RDA NEEDS TO LEARN FROM A ROAD FROM CHENNAI TO BUNGALO IN INDIA

  6. THE KEY IS TO HAVE GOOD ROADS AND SEPARATE TRUCKS FROM SMALL VEHICLES, A BY PASS IS A GOOD IDEA, THE MAZABUKA ROAD IS IN SERIOUS BAD SHAPE BECAUSE OF HEAVY TRUCKS DAMAGING THE ROAD EVERY YEAR AFTER PATCHING. ECL GOOD WORK WITH THE CONTINUATION OF THE ROAD PROJECTS, WORK ON THAT DAMNED ROAD PLEASE. ABANTU BAFWA SANA.

  7. fire zindaba and libongani for keeping money vultures in their ranks. why do we have so many useless blocks stella and zindaba, please provide answers. are you big time beneficialies

  8. Ms Nawakwi needs to be told that instead of yapping she can formally raise this issue with president Lungu or write Ministry of Works and Supply. Better still she can use her one MP in parliament to request for a Ministerial statement from the Minister of Transport and Works. The problem with most politicians in Zambia is that they like yapping (As Sata used to say). Ms Nawakwi as a former Minister needs to know how to get the attention of government. You don’t get that by yapping, she should live that to HH who has no Ministerial experience.
