Government has reassured the public that the welfare of Zambian nationals living in, and travelling to South Africa remains top priority during this period.

Addressing the Press at State House today, Acting Chief government Spokesperson Vincent Mwale told journalists that the Zambian Mission in Pretoria has continued to closely monitor the situation in that country.

Mr. Mwale who is also Youth and Sport Minister said to date no Zambian national living in South Africa has been reported to have been a victim of the unfortunate attacks.

He assured the public that government, will continue to maintain high vigil on the state of affairs in South Africa which he says is a matter of great concern to all members of the SADC region, and the continent as a whole.

Mr. Mwale said President Lungu has continued to consult Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in his capacity as Chairperson of both SADC and AU as well as the leadership of South Africa.

He said Zambia is confident that the intervention under the leadership of President Jacob Zuma will soon bring the attacks to an end.

Mr. Mwale said all Zambians living in South Africa have been reminded to exercise caution in their daily activities and to continue to avoid those areas that are affected by xenophobic attacks.

  1. To be honest, the Zambian government don’t to get to tell those South African thugs who to attack and who not to attack. Not even Zuma can put a leash on those idiòts.

  2. Keep up! We are motivated by such regular updates concerning the safety of our brothers and sisters in that hell-turned nation,

    • Meaning What @ Nsanda???? you were not seen as a threat because you were on a sick bed. Aba bantu ta batemwa abeni, batani, and most of all batutu, whatever zambians have achieved is with their own effort , even those close to you at work constantly ask you to go back. Ask a few people close to you , if 1 zambian has assisted 10 south africans from their heart , 10 South Africans have assisted 1 zambian from their hearts. But very soon the truth will come out. The govt here doesn’t want the media to report so as not to tarnish the image of S .A. Yet lives have been lost and peoples property destroyed. Zambians are not mainly in trading but cooperate field, also their not in townships that is why no incidents so far but its scary on the roads or taxis as most zulu run the taxis.

  3. Mozambique, Nigeria, DRC, Malawi and many other countries have taken action against South African companies. What is Zambian government doing against the companies milking Zambia and creating jobs in South Africa? Stanbic Bank, FNB, Africa Life, Hollard Life, Game Store, Shoprite, Spar? Boycott these parasites.

    • My take too@ upfront, They can not win both ways, the atmosphere is tense but media is being attacked for reporting on the incidents, it’s a pity when you read Nsanda’s comment, if they did not attack him or Her, they stabbed a Mozambican on Saturday over nothing. Lives have been lost and bear in mind this over praised govt is not speaking of compensation. This is the 5th time, no remorse, sincere apology or talk of compensation. VERY BAD, ZAMBIANS ARE QUIET BECAUSE OF APPLES.

  4. Besides this is not about a particular country if they don’t attack you today tomorrow it may be you. Imagine a Whole President being concerned about the country’s image than a persons life. It’s about all Africans and not a particular country, they don’t care where you are from. This country is beautiful from the outside, even if this stops the day to day is by God’s grace. No certainty at all. So the beauty fades day by day.

  5. Xenophobia is rife in South African compounds and no Zambian can come down here in SA to stay in a shacks . Zambians in SA live in suburbs that’s why they are not victims.
