Kalulushi traders ‘take-over’ football pitch

Share

The Kalulushi Municipal Council has warned traders selling in the football pitch of Masamba Primary School to stop as they were operating there illegally.

Public Relations Manager Beauty Undi said Luato market which was adjacent to Masamba School where the marketeers came from had a lot of space to accommodate everyone.

Ms. Undi told ZANIS in an interview in Kalulushi today that the marketeers decided to leave the market and started selling in the football pitch allegedly to attract customers.

She said the move by the marketeers to encroach the football pitch had worried the Council which sent police to remove them last month but to no avail as they went back a few days later.

She warned that her Council would not allow the situation to continue as the marketeers were trading in undesignated area and that the action was illegal and would not be supported.

But marketeers attributed their action to lack of trading spaces in the market hence opting to sell in the football pitch.

Group Spokesperson Alice Nalwimba further accused the Council of not being sincere in the matter alleging that officers even collected levies from them.

And District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Patrick Kaonga bemoaned the development as it had affected physical education lessons and other recreational activities by the pupils at the school.

  1. Right, lets create meaningful jobs for the people. The cancer of illegal street vending will not heal. The problem is most people resort to vending, its seen as an easy option. Just like the transport business, its saturated.

  2. A leader leads by example, Chishimba Kambwili built houses on a golf course and has got away with it, so why can t the people trade on a football ground.

  3. I have had a look at the said football pitch. There are no goal posts, half the ground is hard rock. How can kids play football on such a ground? There foot paths all over the ground. It is a joke to call it a football pitch. Open market? Yes it is, besides it closest to nearest route to kwilamba.

  4. Yaba, is that the same pitch where “pangula” hanged himself from the goal post? Kalulushi, kale mwe!
