POLICE in Lusaka have summoned musician Chama Fumba, alias Pilato, for questioning on Monday over his alleged defamation of the President through his song.

Lusaka Province commissioner of police Charity Katanga said in an interview yesterday that police have been unable to serve summons on Mr Fumba because he is reportedly shifting in hiding for fear of aggrieved members of the public.

Ms Katanga said police officers have been to Mr Fumba’s old home in Ndola but have not found him there nor at other residences they were directed to.

“We have tried looking for him so that we could serve him with the call-outs but we have failed to find him, so we hope that through the media he will be able to get this information,” she said.

She said police have summoned Mr Fumba to Lusaka Central Police Station for questioning on Monday at 11:00 hours.

And Ms Katanga said two Komboni Radio Disc Jockeys (DJs) were summoned on Thursday after information was received that they were playing the song on air.

She said two statements were recorded from the DJs, who denied playing the song and police set them free.
“The two were summoned after we received information that they were playing the song on air but in their interview they denied playing the song but statements were recorded from them,” Ms Katanga said.

And when contacted for a comment, Mr Fumba said he is in Nakonde and is not aware of the summons.

When asked if he would report to the police as requested, Mr Fumba said he would need to consult over the matter.

“I am around and I am somewhere working. I have not been communicated to and I am not aware of any summons,” he said.

Police this week received complaints from members of the public over Mr Fumba’s song titled: “ALungu Anabwela’.
The song in question is allegedly targeted at President Lungu.

  1. This is Crap justice, just leave the kid alone and find some work to do. ZP needs to stop being “Muzungu anikonde” and start being professional. This is a civil case between the KID and LUNGU. No third parties should acting on behalf of the agreived.

    • This is the type of news LT likes. Pro PF.

LT have Lungu’s potriat and name as their facebook profile. It shows you that they are aligned to PF.

      It makes sense now

    • This is the type of news LT likes. Pro PF.

LT have Lungu’s potriat and name as their facebook profile picture . It shows you that they are aligned to PF.

      It makes sense now

    • Victimization at its best. Zambia is supposed to be a free country with freedom of expression. Instructions for these intimidations are coming from Lungu himself and yet he’s smartly kept quiet to appear like a saint

      Back to UNIP days

    • Katanga the song is here, on LT arrest them , listen they are playing it on Friday mbona!!
I want to dance with charity, to this hit ALungu anabwera… Mukati mwa sutikeshi..

    • Banana pilato, what goes round, comes around. (chaona muzakho chapita, mawa cili paiwe)!!! When warned you did not take hid. Now you want to consult and have fled home. Be brave but I can assure you that you are in it, this time. Alone!!!!!

    • Strong rumour has it that PILATO is hiding in AMERICAN EMBASSY.

Pilato has gone hiding in the American Embassy fleeing PF and Lungu’s persecution. Katanga should contact the American Embassy for details why they want Pilato and offer guarantees before he is released to them.

PF , Lungu and Katanga ni ba chimbwi chabe no plan.

    • I love our young and dynamic democracy, and the freedom of expression as enshrined in our constitution. Threatening Pilato’s life is uncalled for and barbaric and just goes to show the fragility of our democracy. I see nothing wrong with the song

Pilato in his satirical song has not defamed the President. In fact his song is a timely wake up call for leaders to deliver to the people…. to prove that they are equal to the task.

Its a challenge to our PF govt to prove Pilato and other critics wrong by working to improve lives of all Zambians.

Leave Pilato alone ba police, there is more serious work for you like curbing serious crime in townships than pursue a harmless person

  2. In a typical manner UPND supporters are expected to appear with Pilato at the Police Station on Monday. Ndelolesyafye !

  3. Clever mbuli show up. Don’t hide and ddon’t let the police hurt you. Counsult who when you sing alone. Chale cakaba.

    • He will be very famous in very ‘hot soup’ baba. This kind of of wrong perception of expression must be seen to be corrected to deter would be enthusiasts

    • Temfwe, any lawyer with half a brain can win this case so I do not know why you are so excited. There are millions of Lungus in Zambia so all Pilato has to claim is that he meant his cousin Bedford Lungu, chapwa. So calm down.

  4. These PF clowns, was anything that was said in the song false??
    1. Did Lungu develop Chawama? NO
    2. Does he over indulge in alcoholic beverages? Yes probably jamerson
    3. Is he embracing people PF called corrupt? Yes

PF get down to work and stop using police to mime people. By the way these women Sata planted to had security services must be removed. They are useless.

  5. The song defames people because of falsehood. Does free speech mean I can just wake up and sing a song to accuse another person? If he had sang the truth no one would be pointing at him. He surely will fail to prove what he sang and may end up where Kanene is, fwakuifwaila.

  6. For F*u*c*k*s sake’s it’s the F-king truth. Lungu please grow up and don’t cry over spilt milk. PF has destroyed the nation and everyone knows it. An example is Mulenga Sata and the $500 000 home he purchased in South Africa along with his other friends. The huge one is Rupia Banda and his son over Nigerian oil. Are we to keep quiet or we are allowed to say something because we have the freedom of right. Please be careful of what you do. The whole world is watching.

  7. If Pilato had sung the song before Mr. Lungu became president, i would have been slightly a different issue, but now that Mr Lungu is head of state, its a different ballgame. Freedom of expression does not allow anyone to defame the president. Mulandu ni mulandu bane, why should he hide now and say that he want to consult before going to the police. Why did’nt he consult before singing. Sokoloka and face the police the same way you were facing the microphone when singing.

    • @Eto’o.

I have listened to the song and looked at President Lungu’s short tenure of office. Please clarify, which part of the young man’s song defames President Lungu?

  8. He has broken the law! If you let him Scott free every Jim and Jack will be insulting the presidency Not Lungu

    • @Ndanje Khaks,

I have listened to the song and looked at President Lungu’s short tenure of office. Please clarify, which part of the young man’s song insults President Lungu?

  9. PILATO THE TIME YOU WILL BE CORNERED YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FAKE WIG. AND BE ASSURED THAT YOU WILL BE PANEL BEATEN IN SUCH A WAY THAT YOU WILL NEVER SING AGAIN. WHERE IS GENERAL KANENE AND KASAPATO HE IS IN GALLOWS AS FOR YOU YOU WILL BE CLEANED AND DUSTED.

IT IS CLEAR FROM YOUR SONG THAT YOU ARE A MERE GRADE 2 WHO THOUGHT BY INSULTING THE PRESIDENT YOU WOULD MAKE A NAME. BUT JUST WAIT YOUR DAY IS COMING AND NO MATTER HOW YOU HIDE WE SHALL CATCH YOU.

LOOK AT YOURSELF YOU WERE ABLE TO ENJOY YOURSELF AT YOUR HOUSE NOW YOU ARE ON THE RUN LIKE A SOAKED RAT. WE SHALL DIG YOU OUT IF YOU ARE IN A RIVER WE SHALL FISH YOU OUT.

AND ALL THOSE WHO YOU THOUGHT WILL HELP YOU THE LIKES OF HH HIS CADRES ARE ROTTING IN JAIL COZ BOMA NI BOMA. IWE UZALILE KKKKKK

    • i agree with you 1million %!
The all song issue is cheap politicking, its out of stupidity by the frustrated tribal opposition who cheat themselves that they are better than lungu , wanko ba stupity tabakaimone…… boma ni boma…forward with lungu, whether he drinks jemason or whatever liquor…he is here to rule, and must rule…..kasako lungu is not tribal and is not like those confused frustrated backward politicians we hear everyday insulting our beloved president!

    • Looks like time for your english lesson and some basic typing skills lesson.or ask one of your children to show you how to use the caps lock key.

  10. WYH IS IT THAT IN ZAMBIA WE PROTECT THE INDIVIDUAL SITTNG ON THE PRESIDENTIAL SEAT EVEN IF THEY ARE CORUPT INSTEADY OF PROTECTING THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT NOT THE INDIVIDUAL.

  11. Zambia has not moved an inch from the 80’s when Kaunda turned his big head at anyone that coughed. It’s a shame. It’s primitive.

With all the crime, the disorder in cities and towns, the ebezling and corruption all over, the police would expend time, resources and energy on a simple artist and political commentator. What a laughable matter! What new thing has said that we have not heard. Why not arrest Mmembe who has been saying the same thing?

  12. I have listened to the song and looked at President Lungu’s short tenure of office. Can any normal functioning adult please clarify, which part of the young man’s song is NOT true and hence defames or insults President Lungu?

  13. This boy wants to make an overnight populous overture but it has backfired. The boy has insulted and defamed the President and must be dealt with. This will give a lesson to others. The position that Zambians have taken on complaining when the President is defiled is commendable and must be extended to the media. We cannot allow a situation whereby we vote for a person we want to lead us but an unelected fool like Mmembe what to challenge our wisdom by reducing and insulting the President in the name of press freedom. This must come to end

  14. The robots at ZP are mere giving free publicity to Singer Chama; what he is stating in his song is not defamation but absolutely SPOT ON…MOREOVER Edgar Lazy Lungu has no vision for the country and is an empty tin who has not even bothered to host a press conference…only in Zambia.

    • Jay, jay, what’s with you and press conferences? What is is supposed to do for Zambians? Conferences just like rallies can be deceiving.

  15. PILATO IS MARELY EXPRESSING THE FEELINGS OF MANY ZAMBIANS. IF PILATO IS ARRESTED THEN TO MAINTAIN FAIRNESS UNDER THE LAW THE PF WILL HAVE TO ARREST MILLIONS. JUST BECUASE MOST PEOPLE ARE COWARDS AND ARE TOO AFRAID TO SAY THE TRUTH DOESN’T MEAN WE SHOULD ARREST THOSE THAT ARE BRAVE ENOUGH TO SAY THE TRUTH. HISTORY WILL PROVE THAT THE COURAGE OF PILATO MARKS A TURNING POINT IN ZAMBIAN POLITICAL HISTORY. PILATO IS A BRAVE YOUNG MAN AND REGARDLESS OF WHO WE HAVE IN PLOT 1 ZAMBIA NEEDS MORE SOULS LIKE PILATO. IF ONLY KAMBWILI, CHIKWANDA, LUO, LUBINDA AND MULENGA SATA HAD PILATOS COURAGE THEY WOULD FIGHT TO TAKE BACK PF. INSTEAD THEY ARE TOO SCARED TO STAND AND ARE IN HIDING WHILE BANDA, LUNGU AND KAINGU TAKE ABSOLUTE POWER IN PF.

  16. Freedom of expression or Freedom of speech is the political right to communicate one’s opinions and ideas (from Wikipedia). Those saying he insulted the president are the one’s who have been brainwashed since the KK days and don’t know of their rights. Are you happy with the current situation in Zambia? Are you getting your salaries on time? Are you happy with the petrol prices or mealie meal? Are you happy with your children’s school fees and school conditions, what about hospitals, are you getting excellent care? Do your communities especially in rural areas have clean drinking water? Are your MP’s in your area addressing your needs? Do you and your youth have jobs that are feeding your families? Here is one brave guy fighting for your rights and for things to change. Support him!

  17. PILATO ! freedom of expression does not mean that you can defame others, it has limitations.
Be a man to bear responsibility of what you did. If anyone gave you a K2 to do that , then Be brave to face consequences.

    • @GRAND,

I have listened to the song and looked at President Lungu’s short tenure of office. Please clarify, which part of the young man’s song defames President Lungu?

    • Grand,
Obviously you need to understand exactly what “freedom of speech” is, look it up first before showing your ignorance.

  18. CAGE THAT MAD PERSON.BRAVO ZP.PILATO WILL NEVER BE LIKE DANDY CRAZY.SING A DECENT SONG FOR YOUR PREFERED CANDIDATE AND YOU WILL MAKE MONEY OUT OF IT.NOT THAT SONG,THATS NOT BEING CREATIVE.DANDY MAKES MONEY ON POLITICALS SONGS BECAUSE HE DOES NOT INSULT AND HIS MUSIC IS DANCE HALL.SO LET KACHEMA(HH) PROTECT HIM SINCE PILATO SEEMS TO BE HH,S IMAGE BUILDER.

  19. I liked the song actually but I have become uneasy after seeing the singer with HH which has made me question his intention. In any case the only phrase I am uneasy about is “the suitcase full of Jameson”, the Irish whisky which sponsored Big Brother Africa. Perhaps the brewer can give the singer some money for advertising their brew.

  20. YOU GOTTA LOVE THE HUMBLE MR. CHAGWA.
    ====================
The Very humble Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu says that those PF officials who do not not like the fact that they have been replaced by the MMD must put up or shut up. According to reports widely circulated@, the humble and God-fearing Mr. Chagwa says he will come like a tone of bricks on those PF members who question his authority. “All powers are reposed in me on your behalf my people”. The Humble Mr. Chagwa is believed to have said. I therefore appeal to all PF cadres to give room to their MMD friends to take up positions of leadership in the party to avoid the Humble Mr. Chagwa loosing his temper. Remember that the Humble Mr. Chagwa has a small body but big engine. Do not mess about with the Humble Mr. Chagwa. Pilato; worship…

  21. I have listened to the song and looked at President Lungu’s short tenure of office. The fact that NONE of the people on this blog accusing Pilato of defaming or insulting the President is able to clarify which part of the song exactly defames or insults the President speaks volumes about his innocence.
Therefore, the fact that he is completely innocent until proven guilty means that this is GOOD publicity for the young man.

    Go Pilato go.

  22. What exactly is defaming the president in this song? If anything it just points out the hypocrisy in the PF’s actions since they came into power.

  23. analyse he song before actions. Read between lines and understand it in all angles of real life situations

  24. @CACTUS,

Going on un the unthill to shout at an elderly person than he is carrying a suitcase full of bear, is an insult.
Mr Cactus if you can do that to your father or your uncle then I surely know what type of the guy you are.

  25. Leave the musician alone, he not done anything wrong. The police should not side with the ruling party in issues like this, crap!
