Lwandamina kicks-off CHAN preps

George Lwandamina kicked off his second Zambia beat on Tuesday as the countdown starts for this Saturday’s 2016 CHAN qualifier against Namibia.

Lwandamina returns to duty just days after drawing 0-0 at home with Guinea Bissau in a 2017 AFCON Group E qualifier in his first match in charge after replacing Honour Janza who was fired on June 8.

Fifteen players were part of the team’s first training session at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka who included debut call-up and veteran midfielder Buchizya Mfune of Green Buffaloes.

“Right now I have only been on this job for a few days and there is no time to look at other players just now. I have to work with what I have,” Lwandamina said.

“We will cast the net wide after we have settled and bring in as many more deserving players as possible.”

Players at Tuesday morning training were goalkeeper Daniel Munyao and his Red Arrows clubmate and midfielder Paul Katema plus the Buffaloes duo of Jack Chirwa and Allan Mukuka.

Others include the Zesco United’s quartet of goalkeeper Jacob Banda, midfielders Justin Zulu and Kondwani Mtonga including striker Jackson Mwanza.

The rest were defender’s Fackson Kapumbu from Zanaco, Donashano Malama and Boyd Mkandawire from Nkana and Napsa Stars respectively including Power Dynamos defender Christopher Munthali and Nchanga Rangers striker Patson Daka.

Namibia will host Zambia in the first leg on June 20 while the final leg will be played on July 4.

Winner will face Mozambique or Seychelles in the final round decider in October for a place at next years tournament in Rwanda.

Victor of the Zambia/Namibia game will be at home in the final round, first leg qualifier on October 17 while the final leg will be played a week later.
