PRESIDENT LUNGU AND PF DO NOT LOSE SLEEP OVER OPPOSITION’S PLAY OF SIMPLE POLITICS OF PLACATION

Lusaka, Zambia, 24th July 2015 – We wish to assure United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Mr. Hakainde Hichilema that His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the entire PF administration will not lose any sleep over what the Opposition leader considers to be ‘mounting pressure’.

We further wish to assure that nothing of the Opposition’s propaganda and twisted ideologies aimed at swaying public opinion will succeed in breaking the enduring spirit of the Zambian people. Zambians know that the Opposition’s ‘sugar-coated’ politics and pronouncements or politics of placation may win a few headlines but do not work.

As the PF, we shall continue to explain to the Zambian people the opportunities and challenges while re-assuring that the of Government’s investments will surely not bear fruit in the “24hour-news cycles” but that the direct and indirect benefits will accrue to the present and future generations of Zambians. PF is certain that posterity will judge generously the on-going investments.

The Opposition can be assured that President Lungu and PF are not afraid of public scrutiny of the respective programs and decisions being made.

This is because PF understands that such scrutiny and criticism by the Opposition and other stakeholders, when done objectively and in good faith, are essential in creating the desired understanding among citizens, which results in either support or opposition to Government’s programs.

PF will continue with the tremendous task of informing and alerting the Zambian people of the direction, decisions and challenges, including setbacks on the way. Not only will we acknowledge problems as and when they exist, but we’ll go further to consider short and long-term solutions.

We can therefore assure the Opposition that if causing President Lungu and his PF administration to lose sleep is the objective for their criticism, it will be a difficult one for them to attain.

President Lungu takes his job very seriously and shall remain candid and take responsibility whenever errors arise on PF’s watch. This approach is informed by understanding the wisdom of the past that “An error does not become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.” President Lungu, being a democrat believes in debate and criticism his Government and Zambia are to succeed.

As such, the President and PF is inviting the Opposition to debate issues and challenges in the nation, without becoming personally disagreeable. Our political engagement should not be about specializing in politics of placation without providing alternatives.

Lastly, PF believes that the engagement between itself and the Opposition should be anchored not simply in “giving the public what it wants to hear” but rather what the public needs to hear.

It has been easy for the Opposition to dramatize the load-shedding affecting our people, which is a consequence of Mother Nature and Africa Development Bank Group reports that 30 African countries and Zambia is among them.

In this regard, PF will continue to indicate long-term problems and propose and implement long-term choices. The Opposition can be assured that PF will therefore not relent from its pledge to take Zambia to her promised ‘land of work and joy in unity, all one, strong and free’.

  1. ….some reactions or responses give away the exact scenario being disputed…..
….I remember UNIP giving similar sentiments when MMD transformed from a pressure group into a political party….so did MMD in 2011 against PF….

    • Please Edgar, tell us why Mealie Meal, fuel, poultry products and transports costs are increasing. Perhaps Chanda, next time can tell us how this visionless president will reduce this cost.

    • This guy needs to be fired just like one Hapunda! Why is it so difficult for political parties to learn from history ? Mmd had one Chanda Chimba! It is such people who make ruling parties unpopular !

  2. Mr. Chanda, this is indeed dull politics of Africa for small minds that are not exposed. The best way to silence someone is to ignore them completely the Chiluba way. The fact that you’re taking time writing those long statements confirms you’re affected by HH. Why are you not writing about other non entities? The best way to make HH look foolish is by playing silent so he sees he has no effect on PF. The more you continue writing the more HH continues as it is clear you’re writing on behalf of Edigar.

  3. You chanda stop lying. There have been calls for an audit of past eurobonds, what are PF afraid of?? On load shedding how come other countries that depend on the Zambezi for hydro are not reporting empty dams, infact Vic falls which dumps it’s water into kariba is not running dry. And can you tell us why Zambian roads are the most expensive in the world to build.

  4. You sound like Sadams mouth piece before the US took over Baghdad. Ati debate which debate? When opposition articulate item by item which issues need to be addressed you attack their personalities with your daily mail, times and deadNBC. Organise a debate on national TV so that we hear from the horses mouth. You have said a lot of words but the reason they have not delivered substance is because the reality we Zambians who are not politicians or politicians relatives are experiencing is completely different/opposite to your bedtime story. Since you like quoting syaings here are some for you: “You can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig” or how about “you can fool some of the people some of the time but you cant fool all the people all the time” or “lies have short legs”

  5. How will the future the generetion enjoy when the burden of repaying those huge loans is lumped on the them? Zambia is going through serious mismanagement under pf. Pf is losing sleep because majority zambians have lost trust in pf.

  6. So many vuvuzelas in PF all lining up to steal the just obtained euro bond money. We will chase you up in 2016 as you will need to account for every penny. For the first time people will be jailed for stealing and all the stolen money recovered. We aim to set a precedence and a good stage for people with integrity to assume public office. The Siliyas, kateles, RBs etc would not qualify at all.

  7. I personally do not trust Chikwanda handling our economy he will achieve nothing lets wait and see. He was there in the 70’s what did he achieve, you bring him back hoping for different results it wont work. Its like bringing back KK as President with all due respect. His God given time as President was then not now. Chikwanda is only enjoying power but won’t add value to this economy this is serious.

    • When I was in grade 7 Chikwanda was a minister. I am 56 years now Chikwanda is a minister. Obviously natural brain wasting has taken place. The recent released defiler would say, ‘get this outuuuuuu’.

  8. Something tells me that Lungu and his Ministers are not normal human beings! You can’t surely develop a country with borrowed resources! All sectors of the economy are in reverse gear! most projects have stalled because of lack of money and as if that is not enough these heartless bunch of greedy idi0ts have decided to increase their salaries while telling the majority citizens to brace for hard times! Lungu is busy preaching to the illiterates that there is development everywhere! Very fun! When voting time comes the illiterate cadres will leave their shacks on empty stomachs to go and shout on top of their voices ‘Ifintu ni Lungu’! and later go back home to complain about hunger! Dull gullible f00ls indeed! You ask the why they voted for PF and Lungu, they will tell you, ‘that’s…

    • Kaputo Davies, I will not ponder about your education level or your understanding of Economics. I started my business with borrowed funds from Barclays Bank some 7 years ago. Today my business has more than 5 trucks which all belong to me without a single loan with any bank. although I still have an overdraft with Nedbank SA which I have never utilised in full. If I had not taken the risk and borrowed I would not have been where I am right now.
Do government borrow? The simple answer is YES. Currently China holds huge amounts of American Dollars in reserves for the goods America ” borrowed” from the Chinese. At some stage the Chinese will want the Dollars converted back to real goods.
Believe it or not America is the most indebted nation on earth. America is far worse off than Greece.

  9. Mr. Chanda,
Are you born 1mbecile or your 1mbecility come with PF membership?
Do you really think that outside PF you will find anybody who believe single word you are saying? If you do, it is confirmation of your absolute 1mbecility.

  10. Let me ask Sunday to also assure Zambians the following :
    1. PF will renounce it’s violence and guarantee us peace and tranquility. There is looming violence in Zambia especially in towns like Lusaka.
    2. The retired Lusaka City Council workers will get will get their benefits in full asap.
    3. The council will not be interfered with by PF thugs at stations and markets in collecting levies/revenues. 4. The ZNBC will feature the opposition to increase debate Not to say you do not have sleepless nights. No. We know you do not sleep. We see how the deputy secretary general comes to many radio stations just to talk about UPND and HH. Shame .

  11. OF COURSE LUNGU IS NOT SUFFERING! !!
THE INSENSITIVITY OF LUNGU AND THE PF IS DISMAYING. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS THEMSELVES AND THE HEFTY SALARIES THEY ARE GETTING. HOW CAN A PRESIDENT ISSUE SUCH A CARELESS STATEMENT ” ….. NOT LOSING ANY SLEEP…” WHEN THE PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING UNPRECEDENTED SUFFERING AND OUR ECONOMY IS TANKING AT NOSE DIVE RATES. BASICALLY CHANDA JUST SUMMED UP THE APPROACH PF HAS TOWARDS THE MASSES. ” LET THE PEOPLE SUFFER AS LONG AS LUNGU AND HIS FRIENDS CAN GO O SOUTH AFRICA FOR TREATMENT AND HAVE WHISKEY TO DRINK THEY WILL SLEEP HAPPY. LUNGU IS NOT LOSING ANY SLEEP BECAUSE HE IS NOT THE ONE SUFFERING.

  12. Scrutinizerer, Obatala Jemasoni, chills,

loadist, wanzelu, all belong to one tribe. You do not have to be a wizard to guess which tribe they belong to.

    • ba mwine muzi sure……
….you are already defeated…. we are not even half way into the debate sure….Sunday chanda is not talking about tribal here….
..Sunday is trying to dispute the insinuation that the ruling party is not having sleepless night over the opposition…..all we are saying is that…the way he has come out is like he is confirming that is what is actually happening….he could have done better by keeping quiet….if a loan worked for you well and good…if Eurobonds will work for Zambia well and good but don’t bring in America….China what have you…they have nothing to with us…I wonder why you have not given reference to Greece…..as far as loans are concerned…and what is happening to Greece now….

  13. @Mwine Munzi! Are you telling me if you borrowed the money you are talking for consumption on luxuries or indeed if the countries you have mentioned borrow and misapply the money, were they going to develop! The difference with us is money is misapplied and a big chunk of it ends in politicians pockets! Not too long ago the Govt got a $750million euro bond of which citizens don’t even know how that money was utilized and it is finished and they have gone for another bond! May be educate me on how the first euro bond was used- point at something which is as a result of the Euro bond!

  14. BA CHANDA THIS JUST SHOWS HOW DULL YOU ARE. AND IT’S WHO IS MENTIONING IT TO THE ZAMBIANS THAT YOU HAVE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS. DID HH RAISED THAT ISSUE OF PF HAVING SLEEPLESS NIGHTS? THE ANSWER IS KNOW. ZAMBIANS WILL JUDGE PF BY THE SUFFERINGS THEY ARE GOING THROUGH. SO YOU DONT KNOW THAT PF IS DE-CAMPAIGNING IT SELF BY THE SUFFERING PEOPLE ARE GOING THROUGH-LIKE—-
    1. LOAD SHEDDING
    2. HIGH FUEL PRICES
    3. HIGH COST OF ALL ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES
    4. NO EMPLOYMENT
    5. SALARIES FOR CIVIL SERVANTS ITS AFTER 4 MONTHS
    6. FARMERS NO WHERE TO SALE THEIR MAIZE
    7. MMD GOVERNMENT BACK INDIRECLY
ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT IF MR SATA WAS ALIVE HE CAN WORK WITH DORA SILIYA AND RB?

SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME

JUST WAIT FOR 2016 GENERAL ELECTIONS.

  15. Out of 17 bloggers above only two are seeing progressiveness in PF! This Blogger called Mwine Munzi is a chainama case,I suppose must be one of the pathetic PF mercenary mafias specialised in having long fingers to dip in government coffers! If critically scrutinised, one will discover. that this PF sycophant Mwine Munzi is more of a Kapoko or RB cronies! These diabolical hellish morons must be made to repay these loans as ODIOUS one,we will surely revolt & advocate for that so that a clear precedence will be made & epoch-making in the annals of African Political History!

  16. ”but that the direct and indirect benefits will accrue to the present and future generations of Zambians” KOLWE IWE NE CHIPATO, WHAT ABOUT THE DEBTS YOU ARE ACCRUING FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS?

  17. MWINE MUNZI, when you borrowed for your business, you had a vision. Obviously, the bank requested for a Procter Cash Flow for your business, which you obviously provided and followed. Thus, the success of your business. These guys are doing quite the opposite. They are borrowing for consumption. Had they been borrowing for setting up more industries and grow manufacturing base, then people would not complain.

    • Which people are complaining apart from the failed politicians. You tell people’s complaints in the democracy going by the way they vote. If it’s true that they are complaining Pf wouldn’t have won a single election since January.

  18. It is interesting how they find it relevant to mention they are not ‘losing sleep’ and make sure a whole article is printed in the papers for the so called opposition to know. Someone is definitely losing sleep over this. LOL!
