HIV
The number of adults accessing Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) in Mongu now stands at 10, 986 while that of children is 617.

And Mongu District Health Office has increased malaria coverage through vector control measures with either Long-Lasting Insecticide-treated Nets (LLIN) or Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in a bid to soon reduce malaria deaths to near zero and achieve a malaria-free Mongu District and Zambia by 2020.

ZANIS reports that Mongu District Commissioner Susiku Kamona disclosed this when he officiated at a Mongu District Health Planning meeting for the 2016-2018 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

Mr. Kamona added that government was committed to annually increasing the drug budget coupled with strengthening of the health systems through implementation of the Essential Medical Logistics Improvement Programme (EMLIP).

He said in this regard, the Ministry of Health had opened a Medical Stores Limited hub in Mongu to completely mitigate shortages of essential medicines and medical supplies.

The District Commissioner also said that the Mongu District health sector focus for 2016 among others was to complete construction works of Mongu District Hospital and four health posts in the district and rehabilitate some facilities.

Meanwhile, Mongu District Medical Officer Francis Liywalii said that health centres in the district were facing a lot of challenges due to inadequate funding.

  1. 10,000 just in Mongu??
This is a scam to finish-off Lozis and Mmembe’s family. Which NGOs are involved in that scandal? There no way even 5000 people be HIV+ just in Mongu.
Lozi wake-up, you are being screwed again.

  2. Damn 10,000 just in Mongu, hell no. Am not having a partner from that side this is very scarily and very serious issue. People we need to start controlling our sex life, otherwise with these escalating numbers of HIV/AIDS infections Zambian future is doomed.

    • That number is actually very low. The incidence of HIV/AIDS in Zambia is estimated at 15%. Mongu’s incidence of HIV/AIDS is a lowly 5.8% of the Mongu population. The chances of you being infected with HIV/AIDS in Mongu is 5.8 out of 100. It is 15 or more in other parts of Zambia.

  3. Its a work up call for those who are loose to have them selves checked because the numbers here mentioned may not be inclusive of them. I believe this vice is rampant where there is poverty and high life. No one wants to be sick but there are those who know their status and do not care who they transmit it to. The best you can do is to PROTECT YOURSELF.

  4. This figure it way to high! The population of Mongu is about 180,000 (2010 census). This means 6% of the population is an ART. Its very likely that those not on ART are far more. My guess would be that 20% of people in Mongu are HIV positive. This should be a concern to us and government.

  5. The problem is Mongu is that you can’t tell who are prostitutes. They look cool calm and collected but majority of them have 3 partners at least. These are very educated people behaving like goats. Even some who were in this meeting are serial lovers

  6. This disease is tricky. I have seen a lot die, and a lot still living with it. Some of those still alive are reckless and still sleep around when drunk.

But there are those that have shown immunity to HIV. Maybe further research into why some people are immune could help us find a cure soon.

For the rest of us, I can only pray.

  7. Knowing your status is better than ignorance. This is not also a death sentence. HIV does not kill it just weakens your immune in the body. It also means there is a high level of sensitization and adherence. Keep it up Barotzes.

    Just my observation!!

  8. the actual could even be over 11000 . the Hiv prevalence for mongu district is about 15%. the data is obviously from lewanika and the ART centres around mongu. but its highly likely that there are pipo coming from other districts but are acces
sing art from lewanika hospital to avoid stigma. at national level we hav close to 400 000 on treatment therefore the figure for a small yown like mongu is nothing when compared to places like lusaka with over 80 000 on art.

  9. I’m not talking about taking up astrophysics, but something tat keeps your mnd busy
will help you take your mind off your cravings.
Data shows that close to 40% of people who manage to sray smoke free for a year relapse and go on to smoke a cigarette or more
in the future; although this probability does go down considerably for people who
have been smoke free for around five years.
Your blood pressure may also rise quire substantially if you’re using
    lobelia.

  10. If you can, schedule to qjit while you’re on vacation or on a holiday.
The atomizer is basically a filiment which burns the liquid and
changes it to vapor. I think it really depends on each individual,
so in order to find oout what the best ways to stop smoking are, one
needs to consider each method for its advantages and disadvantages.
