Mushrooming of unregulated Restaurants in Lusaka draws Council warning

Share

Lusaka City Council ((LCC) Acting Pest Control Superintendent Christopher Mulenga has warned members of the public against coming up with unregulated restaurants in the country.

Mr. Mulenga, who is also Health Inspector, said there are so many restaurants which have come up especially in Lusaka without following proper laid down rules and procedures.

He told the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an exclusive interview in Lusaka yesterday that soon, the council will start pulling down such structures to avoid the public from consuming dirt food which end up affecting their lives.

Mr. Mulenga said those with such structures should not wait for a team of council officers to start evading their trading places but that they should with immediate effect bring them down without delay.

Mr. Mulenga also called on the public to report such people operating in dirt and unauthorized restaurants to the council in order for the law to take its course.

Of late, there has been public outcry that there are a lot of restaurants which have mushroomed in Lusaka and other parts of the country which are below standards required by the law.

  1. Laughable indeed. This same Mr. Mulenga Health inspector knows many of such illegal restaurants. If he lives in Lusaka, he probably drives everyday past some of these dirty restaurants. So no need to report to him, he knows where they are!

  2. I didn’t know that we still have health inspectors in Lusaka. What have they been doing when filthy is all over the city?

  3. Symptom of this Mulenga pronouncement is that of a lack of control, no information base, and no active surveillance on the ground. What a mess. Why are people drawing their salaries?

  4. The same Mulenga eats from the same filthy “restaurants”. That’s what the dollar is doing to our country. Inner city workers can’t afford to either buy food from real restaurants or drive home for lunch so they end up in these carton structures Mulenga is calling “restaurants”.

  5. Try and follow the right channels of registration and the following will result:
    1. You will most likely wait for a long long long time to get the license while several unregistered competitors will have established next to your chosen location.
    2. You will be failed on a technicality no council employee will be available to explain.
    3. You will lose money.
I still have no electricity in my new house in Obama because I followed council procedures. Those who did not are now even earning rent income and I am now a laughing stock.
