HH’s last minute U-Turn on Prayer and Fasting should be Commended-Father Bwalya

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema should be commended for having changed his position against attending the national day of prayer because he has seen the value of worship, fasting together and reconciling, the Patriotic Front (PF) has said.

PF member of central committee Frank Bwalya said the last minute change of position on being part of the national day of prayer and fasting by Mr Hichilema should be seen as part of the conversion that Zambians had been praying for in all political leaders.

But UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said Mr Hichilema had never been against the national day of prayer and that he was at St Ignatius Catholic Church for the prayers.

Mr Kakoma said Mr Hichilema was only seeking clarification from Government on what the prayers were for and why there was need for forgiveness and reconciliation.

Father Bwalya said Zambians had been praying for conversion in political party leaders who were perceived to be bitter and spreading hatred among citizens.

He told the Sunday Nation that it was gratifying that Mr Hichilema had seen the need to join Zambians in prayer and fasting as a way of inviting God’s favour upon the country.

Fr Bwalya said the PF was also commending Christians and other God-fearing people in the UPND for for convincing Mr Hichilema to see to seek the face of God in times of challenges with others.

“The last minute U-turn by Mr Hichilema to attend the national day of prayer should be seen as part of the conversion that Zambians have been praying for in all political party leaders who are perceived to be bitter and spreading hatred. As such we commend Mr Hichilema for realising the value of praying together, fasting and reconciling as a way of inviting God’s favour upon our country. We also commend Christians and other God-fearing people in the UPND especially Mr Goeffrey Bwalya Mwamba who we are told helped Mr Hichilema abandon his position against attending the national day of prayer,” Fr Bwalya said.

Fr Bwalya said his prayer was that organisations and political parties with level headed members should advise and correct their leaders when they were wrong.

He explained that while it was normal for any leader to be wrong in their judgment even over simple things like praying together, it was important that the truth was always upheld. Fr Bwalya said leaders of political parties who were in the habit of misleading their followers and changing their position at the last minute were in fact causing a lot of embarrassment to their followers.

“I pray and hope that those who were sending text messages about the 666 and accusing President Edgar Lungu of being used by Pope Francis to mark Zambians with the sign of a beast will realise the wrong they were doing and repent and reconcile with the people they spiritually hurt with such messages,” Fr Bwalya said.

    • Now that HH has prayed with you FB, It is hoped that the likes of you will see him as a Zambian offering his services to Zambia and not some toy of trib@l abuse.   2. In my case, I expect Chishimba, Chilufya Tayali, Mumbi Phiri and to be on PF TV today and appologise to millions of Zambians they have injured through their out burst insults. I thank you.

    • No only that, they should also apologize to Zambians for Corruption, Misuse of Government Funds and abuse of Office, Furthermore, for being Liars on their Campaign Promises which have now brought Division / Tribalism in our Country.

      Lungu and Mrs Wina should also reconcile with Guy Scott , As he is the Man who ruled our country with dignity and never saw the Kwacha Fall as current.

    • There was no need of having prayer and fasting just for that day because as usual people became Christians only for hours and after that they will be back to their usual tribalism, insults, name calling, corruption, beer drinking, adultery and fornication. I wonder what HH was thinking to utter a prayer boycott clarion call to his troops and and even encourage his followers not to attend. That was such an ill advised moved and too bad that this is a Damn you if you don’t and Damn you if you do, but I think it is better to be called a flip flopper than a man who opposed prayer. The Zambia Meterogical Department had told President Lungu two months before yesterday’s purported Sunday Service that for prayer and fasting that on 18th October Zambia would experience the common National Phenomenon of the Rainbow surrounding the sun. It was after Edgar Lungu was assured by the geographers that he chose 18th October 2015 knowing for sure that such a thing would happen and connived with certain pastors who were led by Bishop Chomba to blow it and claim it was God’s sign of accepting prayers.
    In short fellow Zambians, Edgar Lungu chose 18th October as he knew such a phenomenon would occur as advised by the Meterogical Department.This means whether prayers where conducted or not the rainbow would still be seen in Lusaka. Edgar Lungu is as clever as Lucifa trying to…

      Point of correction sir, the Meterogical Departments worldwide don’t predict such things, it is only the most experienced and experts called astrologists that may sometimes predict such occurrences and these are normally found in in US.
      Please be factual! God has heard our prayers and if you still don’t believe, just wait.

    4. All the politically motivated/inclined cases to be withdrawn forthwith from the courts.

    5. The victimisation and persecutions of opposition leaders to stop henceforth.

    6. Edgar Lungu to hold a press conference as soon as possible, explain to the people the way forward and allow the nation to amicably ask questions on the state of the nation.

    7. All the tenders and contracts awarded dubiously to cadres due party affiliations should be cancelled forthwith.

    • He finnaly liken us Zambians to prayer full family in a country that was attacked by a typhoon. He said in this country announcements were done that every body should leave to the high land but this family refused and were just praying. Buses were sent to ferry the people while every body left this family refused and they were praying that GOD will answer them. Finally water come up to there neck and a helicopter come and dropped the baskets tied to the ropes and announcement were made that jump into the basket but still this family refused till they perished. In death they said GOD why didn’t you save and the Lord said, my sons, I sent buses to ferry you even a helicopter but you refused what did you want me to do.

According to Radio Phoenix news at 13 hours yesterday Sunday 18 October, the UPND u-turned from the first u-turn (urging members to attend the national day of prayer announced by Cornellius Mweetwa on Saturday, 17 October) and announced through Cornellius Mweetwa that the first u-turn urging their members to attend the National Day of Prayer was a mistake! Mweetwa has since apologized to all UPND members for misleading them! Is there a new u-turn I don’t know about?

  48. The Missionaries used the Bible to deceive Africans. They came with the Bible in their hands & said “Lets pray, close your eyes”. By the time the prayer was over, the Africans had the Bible in their hands while the Europeans had the land, mining rights, taxes on villagers etc.

    PF politicians are also using the same tactic to blind Christians. Please pray with your eyes open or else you’ll be used by Politicians while bask in looted Govt funds. Pray to God through Jesus Christ but do not be taken advantage of.
