Central Province and Kabwe Town in particular, holds a special place in our heart and historically political significance as even independence for this country begum from here, says UPND President Hakainde Hichilema.
Speaking when he welcomed more than 2000 new members mainly from PF structures at various levels in Kabwe yesterday, Mr. Hichilema who was accompanied by Vice-President for Administration said he was happy to continue the independence mood and independence celebrations in Kabwe City that has shaped the political history of the country.
Mr. Hichilema said it was a tragedy that despite the advantageous geographic position of Central Police and Kabwe in particular, the place was still neglected in terms of industrialization and employment opportunities.
“As we are speaking, among the once viable industries such as Mulungushi Textiles, Kabwe Industrial Fabrics (KIFCO), are defunct. Yet as a country we import a lot of cheap textiles and fabrics from outside the country. As UPND, we shall work tirelessly to revamp these industries and legislate to protect them. Every country in the world protects its industries through relevant legislations that protects them from cheap imports, and consequently create more local jobs for youths and increase government revenue. Once we increase the revenue base, we shall then reduce on borrowing, and use local resources to support the social sectors such as education and health,” Mr. Hichilema told the jubilant crowds.
The UPND leader said it was shameful that even Zambian military uniforms and other attire was being imported into the country when local industries that make these things are defunct.
“The benefits will not only be for the people of Kabwe but the whole country. Once these industries are revamped, our farmers in the cotton sector and many of our citizens with raw materials will immediately have ready market to such industries and eventually produce more and create more jobs for our people,” he said.
Mr. Hichilema said he is saddened by continued lies by the PF leadership including its leader Edgar Lungu that the current economic hardships are as a result of global issues or God’s wish for Zambians.
“God gave us wisdom to overcome challenges in life and solve our problems such as economic issues and with the right leadership, we can pull through,” he said.
And speaking at the same event, UPND Vice-President for Administration Geoffrey Mwamba, popularly known as GBM, said the current economic hardships that the Zambians are faced with are as a result of failure by Lungu and the PF to provide leadership.
Mr. Mwamba said at no time did late President Sata wish Zambians hunger and a visually impaired leader like Lungu.
He charged that President Lungu has suddenly become visually impaired that he cannot see the rise in the food prices.
Mr. Mwamba said the UPND is the only hope for Zambia and appealed to the people of Kabwe to vote for its leader Hakainde Hichilema in 2016.
Those that defected include provincial, district, constituency, ward, and branch leaders.

Lungu rented the textile factory to a fake investor who now sells fertiliser imported from Tanzania from the premises.
The fake investor is selling fertilizer and it is not for sure that the fertilizer being sold is suitable for Zambian soils. What I even do not understand is why our Nitrogen Chemicals plant in Kafue that is supposed to produce fertilizers for the country based on research by the Mt Makulu Soils Unit is not receiving the attention it should. Zambian fertilizers though encouraging can not match the NCZ capacity and instead of growing these industries we allow importation of untested fertilizers for our soils.

These politiciams never cease to amaze me. Take Mulungushi textiles for example, it has obsolete Chinese equipment. The chinese have since moved on with technology. If you were lucky enough to find spare parts for obsolete equipment, you will not produce any quality textiles that you can manage to sell. Even salaula will be better quality and much cheaper.
