Now coming to the topic of chimubabe, lets not just address the symptoms but the root causes as well. In the video, the chimubabe approaches young girls, but in almost half the cases the sweet 16 approaches the chimubabe. Lets face it, things are rough in Zambia (and yes someone will say its global). There are so many girls who come from deprived homes with parents not knowing where to touch. A girl has to make a choice of 1. Stay away from school and not get an education 2. Accept a chimubabe and get educated. We all want the girl child to wait for things to get better for the parents but most of the girls from the underprivileged homes…
We all want the girl child to wait for things to get better for the parents but most of the girls from the underprivileged homes lack life skills that will enable them to exercise such kind of patience. So lets not just target the mubabe but also the girls and indeed the parents and government to make our economy less depriving so that girls will have their basic needs met and confidently say “nakana chimubabe” unless she just has a natural craving for shiny objects.
