ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata says electricity supply has been restored to Copperbelt, north western and central provinces.
Mr. Kapata adds that investigations are continuing to ascertain what caused the system disturbance.
Almost the entire Zambia was in darkness after a fault at Kariba dam caused the tripping of Kariba South-Kariba North tie line.
Energy Minister Dora Siliya confirmed that the outage which started around 23 Hours on Thursday has affected all provinces except for western and southern provinces which are supplied through the Victoria Falls power station.
‘We lost power supply to entire country except for Western and Southern provinces after the tripping of Kariba South-Kariba North tie line which was carrying our imports of about 560 MW. This triggered the trippings of generators at kariba north and later Kafue gorge on overload. Restoration is in progress and Lusaka should be back on supply in next 30 minutes,’ Ms Siliya said.
Awe Zambia just is an excuse of a country mwee.
In a normal country, they don’t get nationwide blackouts…..such occurrences put the security of a country at risk.
But in Zambia, i’m sure Kambwili will issue an ignorant statement saying that this is a global issue.
It is global.
Please think outside the box. Our pleas to the opposition to relieve themselves in the kariba to help with the water levels have fallen on deaf ears. The people should realize that the opposition does not mean this nation well.
So the people are encouraged to be angry with the opposition.

Surely this occurs and a mere corporation spokesperson is issuing statements; where is the MD? What does Dora know about electricity power distribution…..how many times have we heard ZESCO investigating themselves? Up to now we are still waiting for feedback why we had a black out when we had a head of state present…this is why we should not tolerate incompetence? The ZESCO management should all be sacked and asked to reapply and open offers to everyone….this is sheer incompetence as some people didn’t do their calculation right!!
