Zambian Super League footballer of the year Winston Kalengo has signed a one year deal with Congo Brazzaville side AC Leopards.

Zesco United General Secretary Justin Mumba said the two Clubs concluded talks Monday evening and the goal poacher is set to join his new club before 7th February when the league in that country commences.

And Kalengo told www.zescounitedfc.com that leaving Zesco United is emotional for him because he feels like he is leaving a part of him.

“I have been here for five years and leaving home is like leaving a part of me although I feel I have played my part here and it’s time for me to move and try out a new challenge,” he said.

He said he owes his 2015 success to God and the entire Zesco United for the team work and the hard work exhibited throughout the year.

Kalengo said he feels there is a lot of competition at Zesco United hence his performance this year.

“Am certain that Zesco United will go far in the champions League as well as in the local league next year because there are a lot of players that is a lot of competition which results in hard work, the George Lwandamina led Technical bench is excellent and the executive put in the best to make sure the team has all the equipment,” he said.

He said he will leave his mantle with Lazarous Kambole who he feels has a bright future and can fit in his shoes because he is hard working.

“I have confidence in the young man and am sure he will one day make headlines, I would like him to take my number next year and therefore I would like to take this opportunity to ask the Team manager to give Lazarous jersey 10,” he said.

And Mumba said the club is happy that Kalengo’s hard work this year has been recognized by a lot of clubs looking at the number of offers that were made for him.

“We are happy that among all the offers we got for the player he chose this one because it had the best conditions and as a club we will support him even as he settles at his new club. He has been an instrumental player in the years he has been here and we are happy that his hard work is paying off,” he said.

Mumba stated that Kalengo will return to Zesco United at the end of his contract.

  1. kALENGO had chance to join BARCA …BUT DUE TO SELFISH LEADERS WAMUNYUNYA what football will he learn from bana ba congo, please when even in AFCON they reach nowhere

  2. Thing football thing started very well in the 70s, 80′ but begun to change in the 90s onwards. It has made Zambians of simple mind to live imaginery lives, some think and strongly assume they are in Manchester, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona etc. It is like dating a TV Presenter and kiss the screen each s/he is on the screen. N0sense. Look now because it is a Zambian player just few comments but if it was some player in UK you would have seen. Who is going to end this i.d.i.0.c.y . Jesus come back. Funny children. N0sense kikiki

  3. Bane, the player’s 30 years old which team in Europe in their right respective mind bring a player at that age to their books at retirement age. Drogbar headed to the USA so as some high caliber players at that age for financial gains. Be realistic and let the boy make some money while he still has some energy left in him. After all, when he’s done with his career you’re the same people laughing at him for not making some investments or secure funds to his name.

  4. Comment: well said MA-T, the man is 30. Just how many European clubs will be interested in him? Before we post, let’s have some knowledge of the topic at hand.

  5. Kalengo is over 35 and Congolese born its is easy for him to speak lingala, swaili or any congolese language. The guy has really tried his best and finally his time has come to fruition, most of his former club mates like Mumamba are now coaches, but he still has energy in his legs and he is very displined. I f most of his age mates like Tana,Chintu Kampamba,Masausto Tembo,Perry Mutapa,Gift Kampamba, and Milanzi didnt hang up their boots prematurely Zambian football would have reached aonther level. In the olden days players were retiring at 38,39 and 40. The oldest retired at 43 years ( Harrison Miyambo of Konkola Blades). Today pur national team players only last for two -three years the next time you hear them its either they are coaches or street adults. Lets have in place a…
